CyberSecurity Malaysia Has Been Appointed As Chairman of the World Trustmark Alliance (WTA)

  CyberSecurity Malaysia has been elected and appointed as the 2014 Chair of the World Trustmark Alliance (WTA). With this appointment, CyberSecurity Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab is now the Chairman of WTA, which is a global organisation of Trustmark Operators. At present, WTA comprises 37 members from 30 countries all over the world, including Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, USA, Germany, France, Mexico, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, Philippines, China and Vietnam.
 
Working Visit of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Kuwait
  11 February 2014
  CyberSecurity Malaysia received a visit from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Kuwait on 11 February 2014 with the ministry represented by four officers headed by Mr. Hussam Al-Musaileem, Director of Information Technology.

CyberSecurity Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab chaired the session in which the Kuwaiti delegation was briefed on the functions and roles of CyberSecurity Malaysia as an agency under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) as well as the Permanent Secretariat of the OIC-CERT.

The delegates also discussed the opportunity to expand existing bilateral cooperation between Malaysia - Kuwait in terms of information and communication technology (ICT), especially in the field of cyber security.

Through this working visit, the delegation from Kuwait has shown interest in collaborating with CyberSecurity Malaysia in several areas pertaining to:
  1. Development of National Computer Emergency Response Team;
  2. Development in the field of web security;
  3. Cyber security management of documents and paperwork.
 
Working Visit of the International IT University, Kazakhstan
  12 February 2014
  CyberSecurity Malaysia received a visit from the International IT University of Kazakhstan on 12 February 2014, with a 5 delegations led by Prof. Sagadiyev, President of the International IT University, Kazakhstan.

Mohd Shamir Hashim, Vice President, Government & Multilateral Engagement, CyberSecurity Malaysia received the delegation and chaired the session. The delegation was briefed on the functions and roles of CyberSecurity Malaysia, including the history of the establishment, mandate and the types of services offered to the Government and the public.

The opportunity to further expand the bilateral cooperation existing between Malaysia and Kazakhstan in terms of ICT was also discussed, especially in the area of training expertise.

The delegation from Kazakhstan shared feedback that they gained a better understanding of the role of CyberSecurity Malaysia in implementing professional training programs in the cyber security field. It helped them create a more accurate picture in Kazakhstan’s perspective in implementing training programs at the International IT University, Kazakhstan.
 
Global CyberCrime Enforcement Summit 2014
  11-12 February 2014
  CyberSecurity Malaysia joined the Summit organised by the Global Cyber Crimes Enforcement of Digital Crime Center (DCU) Microsoft held in Redmond Washington, United States from 11 to 12 February 2014.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by the Vice President of Cyber Security Responsive Services (CSRS), Dr. Aswami Fadillah Mohd Ariffin and two officers, Megat Muazzam Abdul Muttalib, Head of MyCERT and Mohd Zabri Adil Talib, Head of Digital Forensics.

The Summit was attended by experts and academicians in the field of cyber technologies such as participants from Interpol's Global Center USA, the German Federal Criminal Police, University of Washington, University of Southern California San Diego and also Europol Cyber Crime Center

The summit focused on the protection of civilians, especially Internet users from malware attacks, and crimes such as identity theft, bank fraud, click fraud, invasion of privacy, and the exploitation of children online.
 
Academic Visit by the Hulu Selangor Community College Students

  CyberSecurity Malaysia received an academic visit from students of Hulu Selangor Community College on 13 February 2014. The delegation consisting of 33 students was led by Mrs. Herdawati Ahmad, Lecturer Program SKS Hulu Selangor Community College.

The students were briefed on the role and function of CyberSecurity Malaysia and the CyberSecurity Malaysia corporate video was shown to the students as part of the visit. The students also visited the laboratory of Digital Forensics and were shown the cyber security operations conducted by the Computer Emergency Response Team Malaysia (MyCERT)

Through this visit the students will gain exposure to the function of CyberSecurity Malaysia, as well as it will help raise awareness and understanding about the importance of cyber security.
 
Visit by Senior Officers of Cyber Crime Investigation Course of the Royal Malaysia Police College

  CyberSecurity Malaysia received a visit from senior officials of the Cyber Crime Investigation Course of the Royal Malaysia Police College. The group consisted of 30 officers led by ASP Yong Wee Heiong.

The delegation was briefed on CyberSecurity Malaysia and a tour was conducted of the Digital Forensics lab and Cyber999 help center.

Through this visit, the officials gained exposure and got detailed information about the services provided by the Department of Digital Forensics. The delegation was also given a tour of the operations center of Cyber999 that assists in internet users reporting issues related to cyber security incidents.

With this exposure the officials can hopefully help public to channel the cyber security incidents they face to CyberSecurity Malaysia. At the same time, it will also help them provide a more effective and good quality service.
 
Media Workshop with Galeri Ilmu Sdn Bhd

  A media workshop with publication company, Galeri Ilmu Sdn Bhd. (publisher of ASUH magazine) was held on 18 February 2014. It is the first media workshop organised by CyberSecurity Malaysia in 2014. The goal of the media workshop initiative by CyberSecurity Malaysia is to strengthen and foster good relations with the media in addition to share its appreciation for the support and assistance given by the media.

The objectives of this workshop were:
  1. Provide information and exposure of techniques to search for information through ‘search engines’ to get results or accurate decisions;
  2. Enhance and promote awareness of the media on the importance of cyber security through introduction on the CyberSAFE program.
This media workshop was attended by a total of 21 staff of Galeri Ilmu consisting of publishers, editors, journalists, graphic designers and general staff.

The workshop which was held at CyberSecurity Malaysia was conducted by Edwan Aidid, from the Outreach Department and was divided into two segments, the CyberSAFE segment and the segment on searching information via search engines.

This workshop has given the Galeri Ilmu Team exposure to information on search techniques and best practices to be followed when using the Internet. The knowledge gained by the participants in this workshop can be applied in their daily activities.
 
BlueSPACE IT Security 2014 Conference
  18-20 February 2014
  CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated as a Supporting Organisation in BlueSPACE IT Security Conference 2014 organised by Trueventus Sdn Bhd. Besides CyberSecurity Malaysia, the conference is also supported by ISPA (The Professional Information Security Association of Malaysia).

The conference gathered experts in the field of cyber security and IT and helped conduct discussions based on their expertise and experience on various issues related to cyber defense techniques. It has facilitated the participants in gaining crucial information regarding facing the challenges of cyber-attacks and learning about computer network defense methods in their organisations.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Mohd Zabri Adil Talib, Head of Digital Forensics who also made a presentation on “Technical live demo: Securing Integrity With Forensic Computing”.
 
Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) Drill Exercise 2014 - Countering Cyber-ops With Regional Coordination

  CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated in the APCERT 2014 drill exercise titled "Countering Cyber-ops With Regional Coordination" on 19 February 2014.

This annual exercise was designed to test the operations, communications and problem solving skills between computer emergency response teams (CERTs) in the Asia Pacific region in the domain of cyber-attacks.

This year, the APCERT drill was attended by 20 organisations from 16 countries, including Malaysia, Australia, Brunei, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bangladesh, Egypt, Pakistan, Nigeria, Germany, Macau, Myanmar and Vietnam.

The goal of CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this exercise was to improve the cooperation between CyberSecurity Malaysia and other APCERT members. In addition, this exercise also gives exposure to CyberSecurity Malaysia to solve the problems based on the theme of this year's training. Indirectly, it has helped in propagating CyberSecurity Malaysia's name and reputation in the international arena.
 
Closing Ceremony of Safer Internet Day 2014 and The Launch of Cyber Security Handbook - Cyber Bullying

  The closing ceremony of the annual 'Safer Internet Day' in 2014 was held at SMK Seri Tanjong, Malacca and was inaugurated by the Hon. Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

'Safer Internet Day' is being celebrated in Malaysia in February each year, since 2010. Through events of the 'Safer Internet Day', CyberSecurity Malaysia provides exposure to children and youngsters about the procedure and method of use of the Internet in a positive and safe manner. The event is also aimed at building a culture of using the Internet and related technology responsibly and ethically. This year, the celebration of 'Safer Internet Day 2014' instituted by the CyberSAFE Program with the collaboration of CyberSAFE Ambassador from the Malaysian Girl Scouts Association held Cyber Security Awareness lectures to students of primary and secondary schools throughout Malaysia. These activities were held from 11 February to 24 February, 2014 and an estimated 900 students in 9 schools were enlightened about cyber security through this activity.

At the University level the Safer Internet Day 2014 activities were held with students of International Islamic University (IIU), in which a total of 30 students UIA were given cyber security training to qualify as CyberSAFE Ambassadors. Training was held on 15 and 16 February 2014.

On 24 February, CyberSAFE Ambassadors consisting of CyberSAFE IIU students acted as mentors to students of SMK Seri Tanjong. As a mentor, UIA students were to interact with students of SMK Seri Tanjong while sharing information on cyber security issues. At the same event, the Cyber Security Handbook - Cyber Bullying was launched by the Hon. Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah.

The handbook is an initiative to develop guidelines and best practices by CyberSecurity Malaysia to help Internet users, particularly parents, guardians and teachers to identify, address and prevent symptoms and the threat of Cyber Bullying among students and share cyber security information among Digital Community of Malaysia.

As of February 2014, CyberSecurity Malaysia has produced 21 Cyber Security Handbooks in a variety of topics, including Online Shopping, Online Banking, and Social Networking.

Cyber Security Awareness Program – CyberSAFE in February 2014

  Various activities in cyber security awareness program or CyberSAFE have been held throughout the month of March 2014 to help raise cyber security awareness among public and private organizations, and communities, especially school children and adolescents. The activities have also raised various issues of cyber security and the best way to deal with these issues and prevent people from becoming victims of cyber threats.

  These cyber ​​security awareness programs and initiatives promote CyberSecurity services such as Cyber999 and CyberSAFE portal. These programs are also able to generate awareness of the threats to computer and internet users, highlighting the changes in the reality of everyday life, due to the advances in communications technology.
