39TH ASIA PACIFIC NETWORK INFORMATION CENTRE (APNIC) CONFERENCE & APCERT CYBER SECURITY DAY 2015
  2 – 5 MARCH 2015
 

The 39th APNIC Conference which was organized by the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) and Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) was held from 2 to 5 March 2015 in Fukuoka, Japan.

The conference aimed to bring together the network operator's community and cyber security practitioners (CERT) in the Asia Pacific region.

CyberSecurity Malaysia which is a member of the Steering Committee for APCERT has been actively involved in this conference, and also attended several meetings to discuss the matter and issues related to cyber security.

At the conference, CyberSecurity Malaysia also participated in APCERT Cyber Security Day which was held on March 4, 2015. As the leader of APCERT Liaison Initiative, CyberSecurity Malaysia has been given the role to coordinate Cyber Security Day 2015.

A total of 120 participants attended the session, where Dr. Aswami Ariffin, Vice President of Cyber Security Responsive Services Division, CyberSecurity Malaysia delivered a presentation titled Coordinated Malware Eradication (CME).

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement in these events reinforced Malaysia's position and increases its visibility and leadership ability at the international level in the field of cyber security.

 
 


7TH EAST ASIA SECURITY OUTLOOK SEMINAR 2015
  3 - 6 MARCH 2015
 

The 7th East Asia Security Outlook Seminar 2015 was organized by the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The one-day seminar discussed many issues related to the challenges in the field of cyber security and the impact of new technology. Among the countries involved in the seminar were Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and the United States.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Lt. Col. Sazali Sukardi (Retired), Vice President of Strategic Research. He delivered a presentation on 'Challenges and Responses in Cyber Security.'

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in the seminar provided an opportunity to share its expertise and knowledge as well as to strengthen its position in the cyber security industry in Southeast Asia.

 
 
CYBER SECURITY ISSUES SEMINAR
  4 MARCH 2015
 

Cyber Security Issues Seminar 2015 was held on March 4, 2015 and was organized by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Kuala Lumpur.

In his presentation at the seminar Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin, the Chief Technology Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia talked about Cyber Security Situation in Malaysia.

The seminar discussed various issues related to cyber security. By being involved in the seminar, CyberSecurity Malaysia was able to enlighten the audience with updates on cyber security scenario in the country.

 
 
INTERNAL AUDIT ISO / IEC 27001:2013 COURSE
  10 – 12 MARCH 2015
 

On 10 and 12 March 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia organized Internal Audit ISO / IEC 27001: 2013 course at Putrajaya. This three-day course was attended by 23 participants from various CNII organizations. The course was exclusively organized for organizations holding ISMS ISO/IEC 27001 certification issued through CSM27001 scheme.

The course provided guidance for implementation of internal audit and compliance to relevant standards. It also established a common understanding among the organizations that received certification under CSM27001 scheme.

 
 
OPS JELAJAH CYBER – ZONE 1 KELANTAN AND ZONE 2 PAHANG
  13 – 18 MARCH 2015
 

CyberSecurity Malaysia with the support from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) conducted a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program known as "Ops Jelajah Cyber" at the flood affected states on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, namely Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu.

The Flag-off ceremony was held on March 12, 2015 and officiated by YB. Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

In addition to providing data recovery service, the team from CyberSecurity Malaysia also organized consultation session about filtering data, shared information about best practices in data management, provided explanation about the various types of incidents and cyber security threats; as well as informing the local community that they could report cyber security incidents to CyberSecurity Malaysia through a help center Cyber999, using a variety of reporting channels.

The program also received strong cooperation from the State Secretary Offices and also the District Offices in each area visited. In addition, this program was supported by the industry players, such as Innovation Myung Co., Ltd., Huawei, Special Prisma Sdn Bhd, WS Mentari Sdn Bhd and Integrated Trends.

 
 
7TH ANNUAL BANK TECH ASIA 2015
  17-18 MARCH 2015
 

The 7th Annual Bank Tech Asia 2015 was organized by the Knowledge Group of Companies and was held at the Grand Millennium Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The two-day seminar was held to discuss issues affecting information and banking technologies in line with the current developments in today's ICT era.

At this seminar, cyber security aspects were also discussed. Lt. Col. Sazali Sukardi (Retired), CyberSecurity Malaysia's Vice President of Strategic Research, delivered a presentation entitled Addressing Cyber Threats in the Banking Sector, where he shared information about the current trend of cyber threats and the risks of cyber attacks on the banking sector.

The banking industry showed that they realized the importance of cyber security in today's banking industry and that they recognized CyberSecurity Malaysia's expertise in this area.

 
 
PUBLIC SECTOR SOCIAL MEDIA FORUM
  19 MARCH 2015
 

Public Sector Social Media Forum was held on March 19, 2015 at Putrajaya and was officiated by YB. Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department.

More than 1,000 people attended the forum, which consists of the Heads of Departments, Chief Information Officers (CIO) and the officers who are responsible for the implementation of social media in the public sector.

A one day forum was held to inform and discuss issues as well as matters concerning the implementation and direction of social media in the public sector.

Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin, Chief Technology Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia was an invited panelist for a Knowledge Discussion session of the Public Sector's Social Media Forum.

 
 
AUDIT COMMITTEE CONFERENCE

CyberSecurity Malaysia took part in the Conference that was organized by the Audit Committee of Accountants Council on March 24, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur.

The conference was held with the aim of sharing knowledge and experience in facing the challenges and the pressure in the auditing process as well as the preparation of financial reports, which is becoming more and more complex.

At this conference, the issue of information security was also discussed, where Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin, Chief Technology Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia shared information on the importance of cyber security to the participants of the conference

 
 
ASEAN REGIONAL FORUM – WORKSHOP ON COUNTER RADICALISATION AND THE INTERNET
  25 - 26 MARCH 2015
 

CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to conduct a presentation at the ASEAN Regional Forum, organized by the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT), which took place on 25 and 26 March 2015 in Kuala Lumpur.

Dr. Zahri Hj. Yunos, Chief Operating Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia presented a paper entitled Internet Radicalization and Cyber Terrorism. The conference was attended by policy makers and law enforcement officials from various countries in the Asia Pacific region. It also demonstrated the various countries' commitment to the field of cyber security.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference was aimed at sharing experiences and information on the current trends and cyber threats with the participants from ASEAN member countries. It also provided opportunity to promote CyberSecurity Malaysia as the national body entrusted with the tasks of ensuring the safety and well-being of Malaysians.

 
 
ACTIVITIES AND EXHIBITION IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MAJLIS GRADUASI & INOVASI 2015 AT SMK GHAFAR BABA, MELAKA

On March 28, 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in InnoSpace Program organized by the Innovation & Commercialization Division, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) at the SMK Ghafar Baba (SMKGB), Melaka. The opening ceremony was officiated by YB. Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamed Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The program aimed to give recognition and encouragement to SMKGB's students, especially to the Form Five and Pre-University students. In addition, this program also exposed the students about the latest innovations and the need for national development; and to produce students who are creative in dictating new ideas.

Various interactive online activities and briefings were held during the program by CyberSecurity Malaysia as well as MOSTI agencies, including the Department of Chemistry, Department of Nuclear, SIRIM and Department of Meteorology.

This program met the target of cyber security awareness campaign - CyberSAFE, where the involvement of the students and the local community of over 1,000 people have helped disseminate information and awareness about cyber security.

 
 
CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS WITH THE INDUSTRY PROGRAM

On March 31, 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to do a presentation on cyber security in relations to the Industrial Control System (ICS) for the staff and management of Yokogawa Kontrol (M) Sdn Bhd.

This program was designed to provide information and guidance to the industry on the ICS cyber threats and measures for improvement that can be done by the industry to reduce the risk of intrusion and hack threat that might jeopardize the safety, cause physical destruction and disrupt the continuity of services.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Ruhama Bin Mohammed Zain. The presentation was pertaining to the source of the threat, the attacks, the preventive measures and secure network design.
