With the introduction of EAServer 4.1 for AIX and HP-UX development platforms, Sybase further demonstrates its support for key J2EE technologies. With "Write Once, Run Anywhere " portability, customers can easily leverage these new applications and services into a wide range of existing environments that support J2EE. This inherent simplicity increases developer productivity and code reusability, further speeding the development and deployment process of applications and services that give enterprises a competitive advantage.

"EAServer offers our e-Business customers a comprehensive, unified software platform with cross-component and cross-platform support out of the box," said Nigel Ball, vice president and general manager, HP Enterprise Solutions Partners. "With the release of EAServer 4.1 on HP-UX, customers gain the ability to choose and scale the entire spectrum of HP's enterprise-class servers based on Microsoft Windows and HP-UX."

In the current economic climate, customers are increasingly turning to technology solutions that will allow them to cut costs by leveraging their underutilized hardware. It is a key requirement for IT managers that infrastructure software, such as application servers, have the ability to operate on all platforms with the flexibility to deploy applications to mixed computing environments.

EAServer 4.1 provides a comprehensive security model to enable customers to deliver secure enterprise Web services, including single sign-on, role-based access control, and secure business objects (SBO). EAServer 4.1 also includes Web Services Toolkit (including SOAP, UDDI, WSDL) and Message Bridge for Java to further speed the development of service-oriented applications. Message Bridge for Java jump-starts development with a "no-code" XML-Java solution, freeing developers to focus on business logic in Java, while Web Services Toolkit provides developers with the ability to leverage business logic in Java as a Web service.

EAServer 4.1 provides the broadest support for leading development languages, components, and technologies on the market. Open-choice ensures that IT is empowered to choose best of breed technology and continue to build value for existing application and system assets.

EAServer can run business components written in Java, C/C++, COM, and PowerBuilder to help developers leverage the most productive language for the project. Development environments eliminate tedious development steps and are often essential to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget. EAServer supports the leading Java development environments including Borland JBuilder , CocoBase Enterprise O/R , GNU EMACS, Sybase PowerBuilder , PowerDesigner and PowerJ, as well as Together Control CenterĀ  and WebGain VisualCafe
