Be cautious when opening e-mail

The National ICT Security and Emer-gency Response Team (Niser) director, Lt-Kol Husin Jazri, today warned Internet users to be cautious when opening their e-mail following the spread of the MyDoom worm as a new variant.

He added that the Malaysian Com-puter Emergency Response Team (MyCert) received 15 complaints from various organisations about the com-puter virus worm, also dubbed No-varg or Shimgapi.

"We have also received many complaints from companies and individuals on e-mail congestion, slow in receiving and sending out e-mail due to the spread of the worm." Although the spread of the worm was not alarming here, he warned Malaysians that it could infect computers if the anti-virus facility was not updated so as to filter it at gateways.

"Do not open any suspicious attachments in official looking e-mail messages," he said.
