PIKOM To Organise BCWorks
1st August 2005 (Bernama)

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia's (PIKOM) Business Continuity Special Interest Group is organising a one-day business continuity conference called BCWorks '05 on Aug 10.

The event is targeted for business decision-makers and is expected to draw over 100 participants, said PIKOM in a statement.

BCWorks 05 has the support of major players in the ICT industry namely NISER (National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre) and SIRIM Bhd (Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia), while the sponsors are Computer Recovery Centre, Vision Solutions, Computer Associates, Vandacom, Symantec, EMC and Basis Bay, it said.

According to Stan Singh, PIKOM's Business Continuity Special Interest group chairman, business continuity is often misunderstood as being merely associated with information and communications technology, while in fact it is an end-to-end business process that needs to be dealt holistically with and throughout an organisation.

"Recognizing the importance of this, we have fashioned our conference theme as Readiness, Dependency & Continuity and included topics such as Challenges in Implementing BC, the Legal Perspective, Adaptation of Business Continuity in your organisation, Security Issues and Measures, and Presentation of Actual Case Studies," Stan, who is also the newly elected Secretary of PIKOM explained.

"With the great support shown by the industry and sponsors, we are confident our efforts to create more awareness on Business Continuity in Malaysia will be successful," he said.

Conference fees are RM100 for PIKOM members and partners, and RM150 for non-members.
