SC to block illegal investment sites
13 June 2007 (Malay Mail)

THE Securities Commission expects more websites offering illegal investment schemes to the public to be blocked in the months to come.

Six websites were given the boot recently, namely www.abbfund.com or abfund.us, www.cfdventure.com, www.swedenfund.com, www.uebond.com, www.esuissefund.com or www.efmf.com.pa and www.ecashfinance.com.

This exercise will be done in stages and is an ongoing process, with more websites to be blocked in the following months as the SC continues its investigations, SC said in a statement yesterday.

Those still taking part in such schemes were also reminded by the SC to withdraw their investments and terminate their accounts immediately.

Investors will not be able to enter their accounts once access is blocked, it said.

SC said it will continue to work together with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and CyberSecurity Malaysia to track, identify and block access to websites promoting investment scams.

The public are reminded that they should only invest with parties licensed by the SC to be accorded the protection provided under the securities laws, SC said.

According to SC, 700 enquiries pertaining to such schemes were recorded between June 1 and June 11 this year.
