Malaysian government agency CyberSecurity Malaysia and the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's holding company, UKM Holdings, are to establish a Global Cyber Security Academy, which would also help to establish the country as a global provider of cyber security certification programmes.

Speaking on June 13 2012, CyberSecurity Malaysia chief executive officer Lt Col (R) Prof Dato' Husin Jazri said the Global Cyber Security Academy would focus on information security capacity building in Malaysia.

"The collaboration between both entities is to explore research opportunities on cyber security projects that could mutually benefit both parties and the nation especially on information security capacity building," said Husin.

"With the establishment of the Academy, CyberSecurity Malaysia will leapfrog to be a forefront provider of Information Security capacity building in the country that accentuates a closer partnership with private sectors and communities," he said.

Husin said the memorandum of agreement included some unique propositions. "These include providing locally developed professional certification programmes in cyber security. This would place Malaysia as a global provider for cyber security certification programmes and also tap local expertise in cyber security."

"The new academy would improve the career and educational pathway of our cyber security professionals and nurture their capabilities in defending internal networks, as well as mitigate cyber incidents," he said.
