KUALA LUMPUR: CyberSecurity Malaysia has given an assurance that Internet security in Malaysia is still under control despite concerns over the increasing number of cyber attacks during the 13th General Election.

Its chief executive officer, Dr Aminuddin Abdul Wahab, said CyberSecurity, the police, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission were always monitoring the situation to ensure peace in the cyber world.

He said the most important thing that should be done by an Internet user was to be ethical when using emails and social websites like Facebook, Twitter and blogs.

"Think rationally. Don't get too emotional and don't simply believe the information spread by unknown sources.

"Don't simply 'like', share or forward the information as it is tantamount to spreading lies."

Universiti Teknologi Mara communication and media studies lecturer Shahnon Mohamed Salleh said if cyber attacks occurred, it would definitely involve Facebook, Twitter and emails.

In case of any cyber security incident, Internet users are advised to lodge a report by sending an email to cyber999@cybersecurity.my or filling the form at http://www.mycert.org.my/report_incidents/online_form.html.

Alternatively, users can call CyberSecurity hotline at 1-300-88-2999 (office hours) or 019-266 5850 (24-hour emergencies), or type CYBER999 REPORT> and send to 15888.
