The chief minister of the Malaysian state of Perak has announced that the fourth edition of CyberSecurity Malaysia's Awards, Conference & Exhibition (CSM-ACE) will be held in Ipoh, Perak from 11-13 November 2014.

Perak chief minister YAB Dato' Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry bin Abd Kadir said that for the first time the national cyber security specialist CyberSecurity Malaysia's three-day event [CSM-ACE2014] be held outside of Kuala Lumpur.

This year's focus will be on strengthening e-businesses as well as developing human capital's capability to defend against cyber crime, said Dr Zambri, adding that Ipoh's hosting of the event also signalled the transition from being a 'Tin Mines State' to a 'Knowledge State' by implementing the five knowledge initiatives (called k-initiatives):  K-Government, K-Economy, K-Infrastructure, K-Society and K-Worker.

During the pre-event launch, the secretary general of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), YBhg Dato' Sri Dr Noorul Ainur binti Mohd Nur, said CSM-ACE2014 was expected to attract 1000 participants including participants from the two-week training and representatives from 37 organisations from 30 member countries of the World Trustmark Alliance (WTA).

"This year, the CSM-ACE reached another milestone with the expansion to Perak, thus allowing the residents of Perak to benefit from the CSM-ACE Training Programme and participate in the main ACE (Awards, Conference and Exhibition) events," said Dr Noorul.

"MOSTI is really proud of CyberSecurity Malaysia for being appointed as the 2014 Chairman of the 30-country strong World Trustmark Alliance (WTA). Moreover, CyberSecurity Malaysia managed to bring the annual WTA Summit to Malaysia. Hosting an international meeting and conference such as the WTA Summit is a good promotion for Malaysia, which will help to boost Malaysia's K-Economy, e-Business and Tourism," she said.

 E-business and human capital

CyberSecurity Malaysia's chief executive officer and chairman of WTA, Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab, said: "CSM-ACE is an annual event and this year the emphasis will be on securing e-business, as well as human capital's capability and capacity building. Therefore, we will be running a series of cyber security training for two weeks, beginning from the 28th of October until the 12th of November."

"Some training will be held in Ipoh and the rest will be held in Kuala Lumpur," said Dr Amirudin. "About 1500 cyber security practitioners are expected to participate in the CSM-ACE2014 Training Programme. At the completion of the training program, we would have produced an additional 1500 Knowledgeable Workers who are capable of defending their organisations from cyber attacks and cyber crimes"

"The Training Programme and the International WTA Summit are not the only exciting features of CSM-ACE2014. In fact, there will be two innovative programs for the younger netizens - the UTP Hax (expected to attract 150-200 university students) and the National ICT Security Discourse (expected to gather 500 secondary school students)," he said.
