LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF 31 MOSTI'S COMMERCIAL PRODUCTS IN CONJUNCTION WITH MCY2014 AND THE CAREER EDUCATION AND INNOVATION CARNIVAL 2014

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the Career Education and Innovation Carnival 2014 held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Ayer Keroh, Melaka from 3 to 6 April 2014, in conjunction with the MOSTI Commercialization Year (MCY) 2014.

The four-day Carnival, which attracted more than 5,000 visitors comprising mostly students, parents and the local community in Malacca, provided an opportunity to introduce and promote CyberSecurity Malaysia’s services as well as to expose the knowledge about cyber security to the public. In addition to promoting Cyber999 services, Digital Forensics, Malaysia Trustmark and MyCyberSecurity Clinic (MyCSC), we also took the opportunity to promote cyber security training programs and also CyberSAFE program.

Organized by the Melaka State Government and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the Carnival was officiated by YAB Datuk Seri Ir. Idris Harun, the Chief Minister of Malacca. In addition to CyberSecurity Malaysia, five other agencies under MOSTI took part in the Carnival, namely: the National Science Centre, Technology Park Malaysia, Malaysian Technology Development Corporate (MTDC), Department of Chemistry, BiotechCorp. and Malaysian Innovation Foundation (YIM).

On 4 April 2014, a ceremony was held to launch 31 MOSTI Commercial Products. The launching ceremony was officiated by YB Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this carnival is consistent with the goals of CyberSecurity Malaysia to disseminate information about cyber security, in addition to the Government's call to further strengthen knowledge of ICT, especially in the field of Information Technology Security in the Malaysian society.

 
CYBERSECURITY MALAYSIA’S WORKING VISIT TO THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA DAN TAIWAN

A team from CyberSecurity Malaysia went to the Republic of Korea on 10 - 15 April 2014 for a working visit to study and learn the technical programs in digital forensics.

Besides being the benchmark for CyberSecurity Malaysia to offer related services such as digital forensics data recovery, hard disk repair, data sanitization and advice on issues related to cyber security and Internet, the working visit also provides exposure to CyberSecurity Malaysia with regards to new development in cyber security related technology, as well as to learn how Myung Information Technologies Co. Ltd (MIT Korea) resolve problems related to the recovery and sanitization of data. Moreover, it also opens the opportunity to CyberSecurity Malaysia to collaborate and exchange expertise in the field of digital forensics.

During the visit, an agreement for a technology collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia, MIT Korea and Korea Myung Latest Innovations Sdn Bhd (Myung Malaysia Sdn Bhd) in the field of technical and consultancy services on digital forensics was formed. The signing ceremony was witnessed by YB. Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar bin Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

Through this agreement, MIT Korea and Myung Malaysia becomes working partners of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the technical field. MIT Korea and Myung Malaysia would provide technical assistance to CyberSecurity Malaysia in providing cyber security services through the outlets known as MyCyberSecurity Clinic (MyCSC).

The team also visited the LG Chem and Technology Park in Ochang Chungbuk, South Korea to observe their cyber security and biotech facilities.

 
LEAD AUDITOR ISO 27001 ISMS (INTERMEDIATE) COURSE

On 14 and 15 April 2014, the ISMS Lead Auditor ISO 27110 (Intermediate) course was jointly organized by the National Security Council (NSC), Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) and CyberSecurity Malaysia to help Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) agencies, among the public sector selected for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) certification.

The course was to enhance the participants' understanding of the field of ISMS auditing, as well as creating certified ISMS Lead Auditors. The ISMS Lead Auditors will assist the CNII agencies to perform internal audit and auditing matters for the certification audit, as well as surveillance and maintenance audit; which will be held in the near future.

A total of 20 participants from 11 organizations attended the course. The organizations involved are:

DEFENSE SERVICES ASIA (DSA) 2014 - CYBER SECURITY CONFERENCE

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the DSA 2014 - Cyber Security Conference, held on 16 April 2014 at the Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Organized by the National Defence University of Malaysia (NDUM) and supported by CyberSecurity Malaysia, the Conference was held in conjunction with the biennial Defense Services Asia 2014 (DSA 2014) and was attended by 100 participants.

At the opening ceremony, YABhg. General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi (Retired), Chairman of the Board of CyberSecurity Malaysia delivered the keynote address on "Emerging Threats And Cybersecurity Landscape". Meanwhile, Mr. Zahri Hj. Yunos, the Chief Operating Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia was one of the presenters at the Conference. Zahri’s presentation title was "An Integrated Approach In Responding To Threats And Challenges In Cyber Security".

In addition to the opportunity to introduce and promote CyberSecurity Malaysia as a driver of cyber security efforts in Malaysia, the conference is also an opportunity for CyberSecurity Malaysia to share experiences and information about the current trend of cyber threats, to foster or enhance relations and cooperation with other conference delegates; and finally to share information in order to improve capabilities in facing and dealing with cyber threats.

 
INFORMATION SECURITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (ISMS) MS ISO / IEC 27001: 2007 IMPLEMENTATION COURSE (INTERMEDIATE)

Information Security Management System (ISMS) MS ISO / IEC 27001: 2007 Implementation Course (Intermediate) was held from 16 to 18 April 2014 at INTAN, Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.

Jointly organized by the National Security Council (NSC) and CyberSecurity Malaysia, the course was held to train Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) agencies on the implementation of Information Security Management Systems (ISMS).

The 19 participants who attended the course were from the following four (4) selected agencies:

  1. Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning  Unit (MAMPU)
  2. Public Services Department (JPA)
  3. Institute of Public Administration  (INTAN)
  4. National Security Council (NSC)

The participants were given exposure on ISMS to increase their level of understanding, awareness and to train the invited agencies on the implementation of ISMS. This course helped them in the process of ISMS Implementation and Internal Audit in their respective agencies.

 
SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & ICT WEEK PROGRAM, JOHOR 2014

CyberSecurity Malaysia took part in the Science, Technology and ICT Week 2014 program in Johor, known as MISTI, from 16 to 21 April 2014, at Persada Johor Bharu International Convention Centre (PERSADA). The program was organized by the Johor State Government and supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) as well as TalentCorp Malaysia.

The six-day Carnival was targeted at visitors consisting of students, parents and the local community in Johor. MISTI 2014 opening ceremony was officiated by YAB Datuk Seri Hj. Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the Menteri Besar of Johor.

Through the provided exhibition space, CyberSecurity Malaysia promoted and introduced services such as MyCyberSecurity Clinic, Digital Forensics, Cyber999 Help Center, Malaysia Trustmark, CyberSAFE program and cyber security professional training programs.

Other than that, activities in the form of Interactive Games were conducted at the booth of CyberSecurity Malaysia, where students were required to answer questions related to cyber security in game form on the monitor or netbook.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in such programs enables CyberSecurity Malaysia to continue the initiatives of providing information and disclosure to the public about cyber security, as well as the opportunity to promote the services provided by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

 
3rd ANNUAL REGIONAL CYBERSECURITY SUMMIT 2014

On the 20th and 21st of April 2014, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the Third Regional Cybersecurity Summit in Muscat, Oman. The Summit was hosted by the Information Technology Authority, represented by Oman National CERT (OCERT) in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

CyberSecurity Malaysia’s participation provided an opportunity, through the exhibition space available, to showcase and promote the services and developed initiatives. Mr. Zahri Hj Yunos, Chief Operating Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited as a guest speaker and made a presentation titled "An Integrated Approach in Protecting CNII against Cyber Threats: Malaysia's Perspective"

A total of 290 participants from various countries attended the summit. CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation is significant because of CyberSecurity Malaysia’s position among the member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), where CyberSecurity Malaysia is the Permanent Secretariat of the OIC - Computer Emergency Response Team (OIC-CERT).

In addition to participating in exhibitions and presentations, CyberSecurity Malaysia also took the opportunity to network and exchange views with the delegates of the conference.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in its capacity as the Permanent Secretariat of the OIC-CERT, has attracted the interest of nine (9) organizations and six (6) individuals to become members of the OIC-CERT.

 
POSITIVE ONLINE PARENTING WORKSHOPS

The 'Online Positive Parenting’ workshop was held on 26 April 2014 at SMK Raja (P) Kelsom Kuala Kangsar, Perak. It was organized by Pertubuhan Amal Murni (PAM) and SMK Raja (P) Kelsom Kuala Kangsar, Perak and attended by 80 participants consisting of parents and teachers of SMK Raja (P) Kelsom Kuala Kangsar.

The parenting workshop was based on modules jointly developed by CyberSecurity Malaysia, Pertubuhan Amal Murni (PAM), Polytechnic of Sultan Azlan Shah and Raja SMK (P) Kelsom Kuala Kangsar. CyberSecurity Malaysia delivered a talk based on Online Parenting modules that was developed.

Through this participation, CyberSecurity Malaysia has been able to strengthen the good relations with Pertubuhan Amal Murni and at the same time educating the participants about the nature of cyber threats and measures to address the threats.

 
2nd ASEAN FINANCIAL INSTITUTION CONFERENCE (ASEANFIC)

On 29 April 2014, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the 2nd ASEAN Financial Institution Conference (ASEANFIC) in Manila, Philippines.

The conference was attended by 130 delegates and 25 banks. Among the participating companies were Epic Malaysia, PT Aprisma Indonesia, Akati Consulting, Tess International Malaysia, Ascertia UK, Primekey Solution Sweden .

ASEANFIC held with the aim of creating a knowledge sharing and business networking event focused on the industry throughout Asia. It also aims to bring high quality products to be evaluated and verified by the Malaysian Common Criteria Evaluation & Certification (MyCC) Scheme of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

In addition, this event also brings the following benefits:

  1. Provide information to local developers on MyCC and the benefits of obtaining certification via MyCC towards business opportunities in line with local and global economic growth.
  2. Introducing CyberSecurity Malaysia as a body that is recognized as a Common Criteria certificate authorising participant by the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA).
