NATIONAL GIRL GUIDE CARNIVAL 2014 & PPM PUTRAJAYA BRANCH FIELD ACTIVITY

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in exhibitions in conjunction with the Girl Guides Malaysia Festival 2014 held in Putrajaya, to disseminate information about the field of cyber security to young people who act as CyberSAFE Ambassadors.

The Girl Guides National Carnival 2014 is an annual event organized by the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia (PPM) and was inaugurated by YABhg. Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor as the president of PPM, who is also the wife of the Prime Minister of Malaysia. A total of 2,000 participants from around the country took part in the carnival that lasted for 3 days.

The PPM Carnival focused on CyberSAFE Program, where CyberSecurity Malaysia has collaborated with the PPM Putrajaya Branch to train almost 200 people among PPM members to become CyberSAFE Ambassadors. The collaboration with PPM in this event allows CyberSecurity Malaysia to play a role in providing information and exposure to individuals and organizations on cyber security. CyberSecurity Malaysia also had an opportunity to promote its services.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in the event was to create awareness about the importance of safety while in cyberspace as well as to monitor the effectiveness of the CyberSAFE Ambassador when exercising their role as speaker of cyber security awareness. Such events should be continued, with respect to the Government's call for a society of knowledge, especially in the field of cyber security.

 
OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE MyCSC OUTLET & ENTERPRENEUR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

MyCyberSecurity Clinic (MyCSC) Outlet Opening Ceremony and the launch of the Entrepreneur Development Program (EDP) was held on June 17, 2014 with the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI). The opening ceremony was officiated by YB. Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin, Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI) and attended by over 150 guests.

At the same event, an exchange of "Industry Collaboration Program - Teaming Agreement" document between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Foundation Technology Resources, a subsidiary of Malaysian Innovation Foundation (YIM) and Enterprise Digital Network was also held.

In addition to being rolled out as new services by CyberSecurity Malaysia, the existence of MyCSC Outlet and the Entrepreneur Development Programme (EDP), also provides healthy competition to the cyber security industry and add value to existing services.

Meanwhile, MyCSC Entrepreneurship Development Program, which was launched by the Minister is expected to produce more new entrepreneurs in the field of science and technology, particularly in the ICT sector, as well as to provide employment to more Malaysians all over the country. It is also a process of transfer of technological expertise beneficial to Malaysians who are directly involved in the program.

 
MAIDEN VISIT BY YBRS. DR. ZULKIFLI BIN MOHAMED HASHIM, DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL (SCIENCE), MINISTRY OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION, MALAYSIA (MOSTI)

On June 20, 2014, CyberSecurity Malaysia received YBrs. Dr. Zulkifli Bin Mohamed Hashim, Deputy Secretary General (Science) of the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation, Malaysia (MOSTI) on his first-ever visit to CyberSecurity Malaysia.

Dr. Zulkifli and his entourage from MOSTI was greeted by top management of CyberSecurity Malaysia. At the session, the delegation was briefed on the functions and roles performed by CyberSecurity Malaysia and shown the corporate video of CyberSecurity Malaysia. The delegation also visited the laboratory facilities in CyberSecurity Malaysia and were briefed on the operation of relevant departments.

This visit symbolizes the concern and support from Dr. Zulkifl and his entourage towards CyberSecurity Malaysia.

 
EXHIBITIONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE PERAK STATE ENTREPRENEURSHIP CARNIVAL, SME WEEK 2014, AND “YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR KNOWLEDGE HUNT”

CyberSecurity Malaysia introduced and promoted Malaysia Trustmark services to entrepreneurs in the Perak state, in an exhibitions held in conjunction with the Perak State Entrepreneurship Carnival.

The carnival was inaugurated by the YB. Dato' Drs. Mohd. Nizar Bin Haji Zakaria, Chairman of Islamic Education, Personality Development, Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development in Perak. Also present was YBrs. Puan Suraya Kulop Abdul Rahman, Director of Corporate Management, SME Corp Malaysia.

At the carnival, CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS and SME Corp Malaysia Perak held the "Young Entrepreneur Knowledge Hunt" for the students of higher institutions in the state. This competition opened the minds of the students about the importance of cyber security. A total of 85 students from six institutions of higher learning in the state took part in the hunt.

The six institutions of higher learning were:

  2. Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)
  3. Quest International University Perak (QUIP)
  4. Perak Matriculation College
  5. Community College RTC Gopeng
  6. Community College Batu Gajah Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this exhibition was to support the Government’s aspirations and plans in inculcating and developing online entrepreneurs among Malaysian youths. In addition, it also became a platform for CyberSecurity Malaysia to give and share knowledge, information and the latest initiatives undertaken by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

 
TECHNOLOGY ACCELERATION PROGRAMME (TAP) – BIG DATA ANALYTICS BOOTCAMP BY REVOLUTION ANALYTICS WORKSHOP

CyberSecurity Malaysia joined Big Data Analytics Bootcamp organized by MDeC in collaboration with Revolution Analytics (Revo), to increase the efficiency in the techniques to analyze large amounts of data for dealing with cyber crimes.

The lessons learned could also help officers in CyberSecurity Malaysia to produce an annual report on the Landscape of Cyber Crime Study in Malaysia that provides detailed information about cyber crime. This report will be shared with local law enforcement agencies to formulate policies and decisions in cyber crime prevention strategies in Malaysia.

9th ANNUAL MEETING OF CSIRT AND WORKING VISIT TO FIREEYE, AKAMAI AND RIVERSING LAB, USA.

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the 9th Annual Meeting for CSIRTs with National Responsibility (NatCSIRT 2014) in Boston, USA. This is an international meeting attended by cyber security analysts from around the world.

The annual meeting was held to discuss current issues faced by Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) in providing a mechanism for cooperation among the organization's cyber security. CyberSecurity Malaysia's representative delivered a presentation at this meeting.

In addition, representatives of CyberSecurity Malaysia also attended strategic meetings and a working visit to the Security Operations Center (SOC) / R & D Center Company FireEye, Akamai and ReversingLab. The working visit was made to gain knowledge from experts of international security, and the information obtained has benefited CyberSecurity Malaysia to address the issues of cyber threats and to improve security operations and services of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the long run.

 
OPENING CEREMONY OF CRYPTOLOGY2014 CONFERENCE

CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Cryptology Research (MSCR) and the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI) organized the Opening Ceremony of Cryptology2014 Conference and Launching of D.E.C.I.M.A.L on June 24, 2014 in Putrajaya.

The opening ceremony was officiated by YB. Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI) and attended by more than 100 guests comprising researchers and speakers in the field of Cryptology. CyberSecurity Malaysia has worked with MCSR in organizing this bi-annual conferences since 2008. The conference was an open forum covering the scope of research in the basic theory, applications, and any issues related to Cryptology, information security and related fundamental technology.

This year, the conference attracted participants from Japan, China, Hong Kong, India, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Nigeria, France and Malaysia. The conference was a platform to promote and realize the research and application of Cryptology in Malaysia through joint research and discussions with researchers from the international Cryptography research community.

A total of 27 papers were presented during the conference covering areas such as basic theory of Cryptology, applications, network security and other technology in the field covering mathematics, computer science and engineering.

 
STI OUTREACH PROGRAM (CREATIVITY & SCIENCE 4U CARNIVAL), BATU PAHAT, JOHOR

In conjunction with the Tour of Carnival of Creativity & Science 4U 2014 organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), CyberSecurity Malaysia took part in the exhibition with the purpose of disclosure, particularly in the field of cyber security technology so that people realize the importance of safety while in cyberspace. At this event, CyberSecurity Malaysia promoted some of its services, namely the Cyber999, Digital Forensics, Malaysia Trustmark, CyberSAFE and MyCyberSecurity Clinic.

The Creativity & Science 4U Carnival is a program operated by the Innovation and Commercialization Division of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). Several road shows were conducted and this time it was held at SM Batu Pahat, Johor.

The three-day Carnival targeted more than 3,000 visitors comprising students, teachers, parents and local residents. MOSTI agencies involved in the program include CyberSecurity Malaysia, Malaysia Astronaut Foundation, the National Planetarium, the National Science Centre, National Nuclear Center, Meteorology department, and Malaysian Innovation Foundation (YIM).

CyberSecurity Malaysia brought activities in the form of CyberSAFE Academia Games Treasure Hunt and offered them to students. This activity has demonstrated that schools in rural areas are able to compete with a high level of cyber awareness, for winning first place with the achievement of 100% at each check point.
