"CLICK, UPLOAD & POST WISELY: HOW MUCH OF HUMAN RIGHTS FREEDOM CAN BE VOICED OUT IN CYBERSPACE?" FORUM

On May 7, 2014, Dr. Aswami Fadillah Mohd Ariffin, Vice President of Cyber Security Responsive Services, CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited as a panel for the Forum "Click, Upload & Post Wisely: How Much Of Human Rights Freedom Can Be Voiced Out in Cyberspace?" Organized by the Judicial and Legal Training Institute (ILKAP) held in Bangi, Selangor.

The Forum was held to expose and share information with information technology experts and regional law enforcement on crime cyber in Malaysia and also the strategy adopted to deal with them. The participants consisted of intellectuals in the fields of technology from the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and legal representatives.

This forum would be in the forefront of human capital development excellence by 2015, in the world class judicial and legal field. While increasing competence, effectiveness and professionalism of the judiciary, legislative and law enforcement by providing systematic training, relevant and progressive, this forum also provide an understanding of the advantages and disadvantages related to the human rights freedom in cyberspace.

 
SEMINAR: "SECURED ONLINE BUSINESS”

On May 8, 2014, CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) and SME Corp. Malaysia Perak hosted the "Secure Online Business" at Casuarina @ Meru, Ipoh. This seminar aims to provide exposure to operators and potential operators of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) about the potential of online business and the best way to optimize the business opportunities available online.

This seminar is also a joint initiative to provide knowledge about the importance of information security and how Malaysia Trustmark can improve ‘trust’ in e-business for the entrepreneurs and businessmen, as well as introduce the role and services of CyberSecurity Malaysia. In addition, the seminar will also provide exposure to the effect or impact of cyber threats to online business.

Through this seminar, CyberSecurity Malaysia introduced Malaysia Trustmark service to the participants. It also will strengthen the position of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the local community.

 
“INTERNATIONAL CYBER SHIELD EXERCISE 2014” (ICSE 2014)

On 15 and 16 May 2014, the Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications, Turkey hosted the "International Cyber Shield Exercise 2014" or ICSE 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey.

The 2-day program is to contribute to the ongoing global activities, regarding initiatives to build security and confidence in the use of communications and information technology (WSIS Action Line C5), ITU Global Cybersecurity Agenda (GCA) and Programme Action Plan 2 Hyderabad (Cyber Security, ICT applications and issues related to IP-based networks).

ICSE 2014 is a platform for sharing information on various important aspects of cyber security by giving special attention to the handling of the incident by CSIRTs / CIRT / CERT. The Forum, which was attended by cyber security experts and intellectuals in the field of technology is expected to strengthen cooperation between CIRT practitioners, senior government officials, cyber security experts, relevant industry participants and stakeholders from the ICT sector and security to strengthen the CIRT operation in their respective countries.

Through its participation in ISCE 2014, CyberSecurity Malaysia could become an international reference center in the field of cyber security. It also provides technical exposure to CyberSecurity Malaysia’s officials on regional cyber training operation that can be applied to the development of the National Cyber Crisis Exercise or X-MAYA. Moreover, CyberSecurity Malaysia also have the opportunity to establish contacts and networking with participants from various other countries in accordance with the mission and vision of CyberSecurity Malaysia to become an organization that is known globally.

 

 
SMART CARD COE WORKSHOP

On May 19, 2014, CyberSecurity Malaysia established the Smart Card Workshop for potential customers in order to share their knowledge of current issues related to smart card, particularly Malaysian identification card (MyKad) and its implementation in the near future in the ICT sector in Malaysia.

This workshop is an initiative under the implementation of Center of Excellence (CoE) program of CyberSecurity Malaysia, to establish a platform for the development and expansion of information and ideas on the development of smart card and MyKad in Malaysia. The workshop was able to increase the potential for collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia and various organizations in research and development of the Smart Card.

The departments participating in the workshop were:

  1. National Registration Department (NRD)
  2. The Road Transport Department (JPJ)
  3. Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM)
  4. Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU)
  5. Datasonic Sdn. Bhd.

The feedback from the participants who used and managed smart cards, MyKad and several smart card readers on the market do not adhere to any standards nor tested in accordance with the standard implementation of the MyKad. The findings from this workshop will be used as input for the development of a CyberSecurity Malaysia Centre of Excellence in the field of Smart Card.

 
PUTRAJAYA YOUTH FESTIVAL 2014
  23 – 25 MAY 2014
 

The Ministry of Youth & Sports (KBS) in collaboration with the Youth Development Research Institute of Malaysia (IYRES) organized PUTRAJAYA YOUTH FESTIVAL 2014 Prism Tower at Persiaran Perdana, Precinct 3 for 3 days from 23 to 25 May 2014.

CyberSecurity Malaysia’s participation was in support of the initiative and the involvement of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in this festival. It was an opportunity for CyberSecurity Malaysia to disseminate information as well as providing an insight into the importance of cyber security, while promoting the services offered by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

Through this festival, visitors had the opportunity to get face to face feedback about the services of CyberSecurity Malaysia including MyCyberSecurity Clinic. In addition, interactive game was held at the exhibition booth of CyberSecurity Malaysia as part of the CyberSAFE program content.

CyberSecurity Malaysia took the opportunity to participate in the Youth Festival in response to the government's efforts to create a knowledge society, especially in the field of cyber security.

 
CYBERSECURITY MALAYSIA’S EXHIBITION AT THE CREATIVITY AND SCIENCE 4U CARNIVAL

On May 27, 2014, Innovation and Commercialization Division, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) organized the Tour of Creativity & Science 4U Carnival at the National School of Bukit Lintang, Malacca.

In addition to supporting the Science 4U programs, CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this event was also as a platform to introduce CyberSecurity Malaysia and its services such as Cyber999, Digital Forensics, Malaysia Trustmark, and MyCyberSecurity Clinic to Malaysians. In addition, the opportunity was also taken to promote the importance of cyber security to the visitors of the exhibition.

In addition to supporting the program organized by the Ministry, such participation should be continued in order to strengthen CyberSecurity Malaysia’s position as a driver of cyber security in Malaysia.
