WORKING VISIT BY THE REPUBLICAN STATE ENTERPRISE TECHNICAL SERVICE, KAZAKHSTAN

On 10 November 2014, CyberSecurity Malaysia received a working visit by the State Technical Service Republican Enterprise, Kazakhstan. This entourage consists of three representatives from the State Technical Services Republican Enterprise, Kazakhstan which was chaired by Mr. Yerlan Kozhabergenovich Yesmambetov, State Director of Technical Services Republican Enterprise, Kazakhstan.

The meeting discussed opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation existing between Malaysia - Kazakhstan in aspects of ICT, particularly in training programmes. The delegates were also taken for a visit to the laboratory facilities in CyberSecurity Malaysia.

On 12 November 2014, Republican State Enterprise Technical Service, Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of understanding with CyberSecurity Malaysia during the CyberSecurity Malaysia - Awards Conference & Exhibition 2014 (CSM-ACE), at Casuarina@Meru Hotel, Ipoh, Perak.

 
CYBER SECURITY MALAYSIA – AWARDS, CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION (CSM-ACE) 2014

CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with the Perak State Government and with the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) organised Cyber Security Malaysia (CSM-ACE) Awards, Conference and Exhibition 2014 on November 10 and 14 2014 @ Meru Casuarina@Meru Ipoh, Perak.

Themed "A Trusted & Secure Ecosystem", CSM-ACE 2014 attracted 797 participants, 9 panel speakers who came from local and international had shared their knowledge and presented the papers, whereas 31 organizations participated in the exhibition.

CSM-ACE 2014 was officiated by YAB Dato 'Seri DiRaja Dr. Zambry Bin Abd. Kadir, the Chief Minister of Perak. YB Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation was also present at the event.

At the event, Cybersecurity Malaysia's Awards Ceremony (Malaysia Cyber Security Awards) took place where CyberSecurity Malaysia gave away seven award categories of cyber security for organizations and individual contributions in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) in general and cyber security specifically. The ceremony was held at the Banquet Gala Dinner and graced by Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Paduka Seri Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-lah.

 
MERIDIEN CONFERENCE AND CRITICAL INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION (CIIP) SEMINAR 2014

Held in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan, the CIIP Seminar and Meridian Conference which was jointly organized by the National Information Security Centre of Japan (NISC) and METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan) commenced from 11 to 14 November 2014.

This annual conference is a closed forum for government representatives to have an open discussion, exchange ideas and take action in cooperation with government bodies at the global level on the issue of Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP / Critical Information Infrastructure Protection).

Meridian Conference themed "Meridian - The Next Decade - Developing Our Capacity Together" was an opportunity to CyberSecurity Malaysia to promote Malaysia as a country that is active in the field of cyber security. It also highlights the function of CyberSecurity Malaysia to the world and the relationship between CyberSecurity Malaysia cooperation with international organizations in order to address issues of cyber security, as well as enable the development of current knowledge and technology in the field of cyber security.

More than 90 participants from 33 countries took part in this conference. CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Mr Fazlan Abdullah, Head of Government Relations Department who has also made a presentation on the implementation of the CSP (National Cyber Security Policy).

Among the results and the impact of this investment are:

  1. provide global cyber security awareness levels and the current state of cyber security to participants from other countries;
  2. establish a cooperative relationship with the participating countries Meridian Conference for strategic involvement in cyber security; and
  3. explore potential opportunities for cooperation with other countries; and
  4. learn the best methods in the formulation and implementation of cyber security policy of other countries.

 
WORLD TRUSTMARK ALLIANCE ANNUAL SUMMIT 2014

Organized by CyberSecurity Malaysia, World Trustmark Alliance Annual Summit 2014 was held on 12 and 13 November 2014 at Casuarina@Meru Hotel Ipoh, Perak.

World Trustmark Alliance (WTA) aims to harmonize the standards and operational guidelines among the various brands of Trustmark managed by its members. Through the WTA Annual Summit 2014, there is now an opportunity to be able to enhance the branding of Trustmark organizations globally, build and harmonize international standards, amplify success stories and operational guidelines for each region, promote the new industries of organizations providing digital services and cross border businesses and lastly be prepared to face emerging challenges like privacy regulations and cross border data protection measures.

The WTA Annual Summit 2014 had provided the members a better understanding on WTA's direction in e-commerce implementation. At the end of the meeting, the country members had once again appointed CyberSecurity Malaysia to be the WTA Chairman for year 2015.

CyberSecurity Malaysia had introduced a new trustmark service brand called MyTrustSEAL. The service is to accommodate the increasing demands from various industries demand to promote Malaysia's fine and solid reputation to the global community via a trusted e-commerce environment. Through the WTA membership, CyberSecurity Malaysia able to understand the international issues and requirements regarding e-commerce and provide its expertise for the country and consumers.

 
NATIONAL ICT SECURITY DISCOURSE - CYBERSAFETM CHALLENGE TROPHY 2014

A total of 500 high students gathered and watched the finale of the National ICT Security Discourse Competition - CyberSAFE Challenge Cup™ or also known as The National ICT Security Discourse – CyberSAFE™ Challenge Trophy - #NICTSED14 on 13 November 2014, held in conjunction with Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference and Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2014 in Ipoh, Perak.

More than 80 participants from 16 teams took part in the #NICTSED discourse, which was an inter-school debate competition featuring the high level of competition and also 'cyber twist' that allows participants to use the Internet and smart phone devices, tablets, computers and so on in stock , presentation and defence. #NICTSED14 require a comparative analysis and understanding of ICT security issues such as cyberbullying, pros and cons of using social media, and plagiarism.

Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah officiated the opening and closing ceremonies of #NICTSED14 and then presented the prizes and certificates to the participants and winners of the #NICTSED14 discourse. The event was organised by CyberSecurity Malaysia, in collaboration with the Educational Technology Division, Ministry Of Education and supported by the Ministry Of Science, Technology With Innovation (MOSTI).

 
CYBERJAYA INFRA CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION 2014

Organized by the Setia Haruman Technology Sdn Bhd, Cyberjaya Infra Conference and Exhibition 2014 was held on 18 November 2014 at the Cyberview Resort & Spa, Cyberjaya.

At the conference, Dr Zahri Hj. Yunos, Chief Operating Officer, CyberSecurity Malaysia presented a paper entitled "Cyber Terrorism: The New Facet of Cyber Threats". The conference was officiated by YBhg. Dato' Yasmin Mahmood, CEO MDeC and more than 100 participants in the country participated in it.

In addition to stimulating the growth of best-in-class talent, this conference allows the sharing of information regarding the current trend of cyber threats, promoting CyberSecurity Malaysia as the specialist agency in the field of cyber security and foster cooperation and good relations with the industry in cyber security initiatives in Malaysia.

 
STRATEGY PLANNING SESSION FOR CYBER SECURITY AND PROMOTION OF ICT IN OIC MEMBER STATES

Organized by the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), Strategy Planning Session for Cyber Security and Promotion of ICT in OIC Member States was held on 21-22 November 2014 in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Presentations entitled "Cyber Security Capacity Building Program for OIC Member Countries" was given by Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia and, "Malaysia's National Cyber Security Policy" as well as "Cyber Security for OIC Countries" was presented by Dr Zahri Hj. Yunos, Chief Operating Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

A meeting was held to solicit input as preparation for the OIC Head of States Summit which will be held in Pakistan in April 2015. Subject Matter Experts from Pakistan, Malaysia, Nigeria, USA and Oman were also invited to this consultation meeting.

The meeting was successful in strengthening the Science and Technology sectors for OIC member states, particularly in the area of ICT and cyber security. It also helped to promote Malaysia's strategic initiatives in the area of cyber security through the OIC-CERT platform and bridge cooperation between CyberSecurity Malaysia and other international organisations in addressing cyber security issues.

 
CYBER SECURITY PROGRAM - CURENT TRENDS AND CYBERTHREATS

En Zahri Hj. Yunos, Chief Operating Officer, CyberSecurity Malaysia has been invited to speak at two cyber security awareness programmes organized by the the Faculty of Engineering Industrial Linkage Committee, Multimedia University (MMU) Cyberjaya on 28 November 2014 and Computer Centre of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Kedah on 2 December 2014.

These programmes were attended by 150 staff and students of both Universities. En Zahri presented two papers, titled "Issues and Challenges in Today's Environment Cyberspace" and "The New Facet of Cyber Threats and the Implications for the Global Security". The organization of these programmes has assisted in enriching knowledge on cyber security within the academia. In addition, the sharing of experience by En Zahri regarding today's trends and cyber threats have been able to raise awareness among the students and staff on issues and challenges in cyberspace nowadays.
