REGIONAL PORT SECURITY SEMINAR
  13 - 18 OCTOBER 2014
 

A Regional Seminar Port Security was organized by the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter Terrorism (SEARCCT) aimed to increase knowledge and understanding of the threat that terrorism posed to the global community. This seminar provides a forum for participants to share information and experiences in enhancing security measures to detect and prevent terrorist attacks that could strike port facilities in the country.

Lt. Col Sazali Sukardi (Retired), Vice President of Strategic Research, CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to deliver a presentation entitled "Cyber Terrorism: Current Trends and Challenges to its Maritime and Port Security". He presented on the current situation and the latest cyber security incidents in Malaysia as well as several holistic approaches undertaken by government agencies on cybersecurity, industry and the community to ensure a cyber-environment that is safe and reliable.

This invitation by SEARCCT to CyberSecurity Malaysia is considered a great honour and recognition by SEARCCT to the role of CyberSecurity Malaysia. The involvement of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the seminar has demonstrated the commitment of CyberSecurity Malaysia at the national and international levels, particularly in raising awareness and knowledge of the participants on the current cyber threats faced globally.

 
HACK IN THE BOX CONFERENCE (HITB)
  15 - 16 OCTOBER 2014
 

Hack In The Box Conference or HITBSecConf is an annual security conference attended by security researchers and cyber security professionals from all over the world.

HITBSecConf provides platform for discussion and dissemination of information on cyber security issues for generations to come. In addition, it also increases the strategic ability, technical knowledge and operational efficiency of the participants in dealing with cyber security issues. CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference has increased knowledge, analytical skills and competencies of the staff in conducting the evaluation process of a computer network system

 
OIC-CERT 2014 ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND 6TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
  19 – 22 OCTOBER 2014
 

Jointly organized by Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) and CyberSecurity Malaysia, the Annual OIC-CERT 2014 Conference and the 6th Annual General Meeting was held from 19 to 22 October 2014 at Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. In addition to the OIC-CERT 2014 Annual Conference, there are several other events that took place, including:

  • OIC-CERT Steering Committee Meeting
  • Technical Workshop and Desktop Interactive Discussion
  • 6th OIC-CERT Annual General Meeting
  • Exhibition by sponsors and OIC-CERT commercial members

This OIC-CERT 2014 Conference was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof who is also the Acting Chairman of the National Security Council of Brunei Darussalam.

With the theme "Emerging Risks Versus Opportunities, the conference aims to address the current issues in cybersecurity such as Cloud Computing and Big Data. This annual conference is a yearly event by OIC-CERT to improve cybersecurity technical capabilities and to enhance international cooperation among members and information security organisations.

The event was attended by 116 participants from 16 countries. 16 speakers presented papers and share ideas on issues of current cyber threats at the conference. As the Permanent Secretariat for OIC-CERT, CyberSecurity Malaysia Malaysia will continue to maintain our commitment in ensuring the coordination and implementation of the OIC-CERT actvities.

 
INTERNAL AUDITING ISO/IEC 17025:2005 COURSE
  20 – 21 OCTOBER 2014
 

The course on Internal Auditing ISO / IEC 17025: 2005 was organized by SIRIM Training Services Sdn Bhd on 20-21 October 2014 in Shah Alam. This course provide a comprehensive and practical training session related to internal audit activities such as planning, performance and preparation of reports and follow up reports.

The objectives of this course is to understand the principles and concepts of internal audit and identify the requirements of ISO 9001: 2008 and ISO / IEC 17025: 2008. Course participants learn the necessary steps to manage the audit process, audit plan and implementation. This course also expounds on audit report-writing skills and ways to implement corrective and follow-up actions.

16 participants attended the course and CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Ms. Madihah Md Noor Jalal Fahmey and Ms. Noor Asyikin Zulkifli.

 
TREND MICRO CSIRT SITE VISIT AND VISIT TO TAIWAN CERT
  21 – 25 OCTOBER 2014
 

The visit to Trend Micro CSIRT and Taiwan CERT was organized from 21 to 25 October 2014 by Trend Micro CSIRT. The visit aims to conduct an audit of Trend Micro CSIRT to ensure the conditions required to be a member of FIRST are met by Trend Micro CSIRT.

CyberSecurity Malaysia has conducted an audit on the policies and procedures, infrastructure systems and networks as well as the scope of work on Trend Micro CSIRT's responder incidents. Representatives from CyberSecurity Malaysia also visited TWNCERT and discussed the latest cyber security incidents, Honeynet, security feeds as well as Phishing, and had the opportunity to discuss about cooperation in terms of research.

 
MDEC TECHNOLOGY ACCELERATION PROGRAM 2014

Organized by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC), MDeC Technology Acceleration Programme 2014 was held on 27 October 2014 at the Bunga Raya Auditorium, MDeC's Office, Cyberjaya.

Among the activities were the courses conducted by data scientists from Revolution Analytics, mentorship sessions to help solve Big Data problems based on the needs of a particular organisation, present the results of the initial product (proof-of-concept) to 20 selected organizations to assess progress of organizations involved in the program MDeC TAP 2014.

CyberSecurity Malaysia presented a Big Data project to detect investment scams websites that has caused so much social issues such losing huge amounts of money and attempted suicides among its victims.

 
2014 THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON "PREVENTION AND SUPPRESSION OF HI-TECH CRIME"
  29 – 30 OCTOBER 2014
 

The International Conference on Prevention and Suppression of Hi-Tech Crime 2014 was conducted on 29 and 30 October 2014 in Hanoi, Vietnam, under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam.

The objective of this conference is to run a forum with cybercrime investigating officers to share information, problems and obstacles in addressing the problems caused of cybercrimes.

Cybersecurity Malaysia did a presentation entitled "Malaysia Perspective in Handling High Technology Crimes: Case Study on Sharing the Experiences in Handling High-Tech Crimes That Focus on APT Attack and Malware Banker".

The conference provided a platform to exchange information in understanding the importance of combating cybercrime and has expanded international cooperation.

 
MYTRUSTSEAL PRODUCT LAUNCH"
  31 OCTOBER – 2 NOVEMBER 2014
 

MyTrustSEAL product was launch at the National Innovation Conference and Exhibition (NICE 2014) from 31 October to 2 November 2014 at the Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

This product provides auditing and safety verification of online transactions and information for websites. The purpose of this service is to increase the level of confidence of website users, especially those involving the purchase or sale of products online.

The launch of MyTrustSEAL was conducted on October 31, 2014 by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin. The Minister also took the time to visit the CyberSecurity Malaysia exhibition area and was given a briefing on MyTrustSEAL by CyberSecurity Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab. During the conference and exhibition period, a total of 250 people visited the exhibition area of CyberSecurity Malaysia and heard a description of MyTrustSEAL.

It is hope that MyTrustSEAL services will be better known by companies, especially those involve in online business and the public. MyTrustSEAL services are expected to increase the security of electronic transactions and also increase consumers' trust in e-commerce in Malaysia.
