The 20th ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27 ITSecurity Techniques Working Group & Plenary Meeting, Kuching, Sarawak

CyberSecurity Malaysia actively involved in the 20th ISO / IEC JTC 1 / SC 27, IT Security Techniques Working Group and Plenary Meeting in Kuching, Sarawak from 4 to 12 May 2015.

In the field of information technology, ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) have set up a Joint Technical Committee ISO / IEC JTC 1, where ISO / IEC JTC 1 SC 27 is a technical sub-committee which includes the standardization of generic methods and techniques for IT Security.

The meeting of the working group of ISO / IEC JTC 1 SC 27 is held twice a year. There are a number of benefits for CyberSecurity Malaysia by being a member of this working group and attending this meeting, such as improving and enhancing the ISMS training modules, implementing ISMS and ISMS certification body, improving Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT) services and providing relevant information to improve project implementation plan for RMK11 projects.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's representatives, Mdm Nor'Azuwa Pahri Mohammed (Head of Security Assurance) and Mdm Sabariah Ahmad (Head of Security Management and Best Practices) attended the meetings of the WG1: Information Security Management System and the WG4: Security and Service Control. They are among the members of the working group under the Technical Committee on Information Security (TC5), led by Standard Malaysia as the national body for standards development.

 
Global Offset and Countertrade Associate (GOCA)

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the Global Offset and Countertrade Associate (GOCA) as speaker on 10 to 13 May 2015 in California, USA.

Global Offset and Countertrade Association (GOCA) is the NGO's entity that manages global offset program. The conference is organized to promote trade and commercialization of overseas companies and customers through a reciprocal program and offsets.

A total of 250 participants from various government and industry organizations from 20 countries attended the conference, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Oman, Peru and Saudi Arabia.

Maslina Daud, Vice President, Proactive Services Division represented CyberSecurity Malaysia and made a presentation entitled "Emerging Requirements and Opportunities in Cyber Security".

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference was to introduce the organization as a technical center to address the issue of cyber security, promote expert services in the field of information and cyber security as well as to share experiences and knowledge on the importance of cyber security program as part of the overall project offsets.

 
Strategic Collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Melaka

A working group meeting between CyberSecurity Malaysia and the Universiti Technical Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) was held on May 12, 2015 in UTeM, Melaka. The discussion was held to discuss project proposals that can be implemented jointly under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CyberSecurity Malaysia and UTeM.

Earlier, a MoU was signed in November 2014 to establish a framework for cooperation in the area of cyber security through joint research and development, training programs, seminars, workshops and colloquiums.

The working group meeting was chaired by the YBhg. Professor Datuk Dr. Shahrin bin Sahib, Vice Chancellor UTeM. The delegation from CyberSecurity Malaysia was led by its Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Zahri Hj Yunos.

 

 
Safe Cities Asia 2015, Singapore
  12-14 MAY 2015
 

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in Safe Cities Asia 2015 Conference as speaker organized by the WBR Singapore Pte. Ltd. in Singapore from 12 to 14 May 2015.

A total of 200 participants from around the world and 50 speakers from various industries and portfolio, including Interpol, Europol, US, UK, Holland, India, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and New Zealand attended the conference. Besides the conference, there was also an exhibition participated by various organizations such as Alcatel-Lucent, Hitachi Data Systems, IBM, NICE Systems, Simudyne, Citynet, Verint and A * STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research.

Puan Rohani Mohamad, CyberSecurity Malaysia's Board of Director and Mdm Carrine Teoh, Head of Product Development and Marketing represented CyberSecurity Malaysia at this conference. Carrine also involved as a panelist in the session and made a presentation at the conference.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference as one of the supporting agencies is a recognition of CyberSecurity Malaysia's expertise in cyber security industry in the region. In addition to strengthening the position of CyberSecurity Malaysia, the conference is also an opportunity for CyberSecurity Malaysia to establish cooperation with international organizations in the field of cyber security.

 
Applied Risk and Incident Management Seminar, Kuala Lumpur

On 13 and 15 May 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia organized a seminar for risk management and incident control to meet the requirements of ISO / IEC 270,012,013.

This three-day seminar was attended by 23 participants from various organizations, including Malaysia Airlines (MAS), Diaspora Sdn. Ltd., Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Sunway University, MARA and Energy Technology Perlis Consortium Sdn Bhd (TPC).

The seminar was held to discuss matters such as:

  1. Introduction to risk and risk management methods based on ISO 31000 standard and the ISO / IEC 27001;
  2. Introduction to information security incidents and incident handling methods based on standard ISO / IEC 27035;
  3. Issues relating to cyber security operations and risk.

The seminar received positive feedback from the participants in the presence of Prof. Edward Humphreys, an expert in the field of information security. This is an ongoing commitment of CyberSecurity Malaysia to organizations that have successfully obtained the ISO / IEC 27001.

 
National Innovation Conference & Exhibition - NICE 2015, Kuala Lumpur

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the National Innovation Conference and Exhibition (NICE) 2015 which took place from 21 to 23 May 2015 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

Among CyberSecurity Malaysia's activities at NICE2015 were exhibitions of CyberSecurity Malaysia's products and services, namely CyberDEF, MyTRUSTSEAL, Data Recovery Services, Cyber999 and MyCyberSecurityClinic.

NICE 2015 is based on innovation and commercialization conference and exhibition commercial products organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). It is implemented by the Commercialisation MOSTI (MCY) in 2014 with the aim of boosting the commercialization of innovation and R & D countries, especially products which are financed by government funds.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation at the 2015 NICE has helped in the effort to strengthen the position of CyberSecurity Malaysia as the lead role in cyber security as well as the opportunity to promote products and services provided by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

 
Launching of CyberDEF in conjunction with National Innovation Conference and Exhibition (NICE) 2015, Kuala Lumpur

On May 22, 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia launched a new service called CyberDEF. The launch was held in conjunction with the National Innovation Conference and Exhibition (NICE) 2015 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and was officiated by YB Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation at a special session called "Power Breakfast".

CyberDEF is a comprehensive solution for data and information security detection, removal and forensic in handling cyber threats. It is a new service in the field of cyber security with a strong potential for commercialization.

About 100 guests comprising senior officials of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and special guests were present at the ceremony.

CyberDEF launched at the NICE 2015 is the latest service introduced by CyberSecurity Malaysia to the industry and the public sector.

 
ASEAN Forum on ICT for Sustainable Rural Development and Knowledge Cross-Fertilization, Kuala Lumpur

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the ASEAN ICT Forum for Sustainable Rural Development and Knowledge Cross-fertilization that took place over two days in Kuala Lumpur.

The Forum was organized by the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA), Ministry of Rural and Regional Development. It was held to discuss the issue of the use of ICT in rural areas, and sharing best practices on the use of ICT for the purpose of promoting sustainable development of rural areas.

In addition to the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA), Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, there were several other organizations involved in this forum, including Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and International Rural Research and Planning Group (iRRPG).

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this forum has further strengthened the position of the organization as a center specializing in providing ICT security services and information security in Malaysia and also the ASEAN countries.

 
Cyber Security and Live Simulation Seminar, Kuala Lumpur

On May 26, 2015, Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS) organized a seminar on Cyber Security and Live Simulation. The one-day seminar was supported by CyberSecurity Malaysia and officiated by YB Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri, Deputy Minister of Defence.

The seminar was held to identify ways and means to tackle cyber crime. In addition to the presentation session, the participants were exposed to simulated cyber attacks directly on their personal accounts.

Dr. Amarudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia was one of the panelists at the second session of the seminar, where he spoke on Coherent Response to Cyber Crisis.

Meanwhile, Dr. Zahri Hj. Yunos, Chief Operating Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, was also be on the panel of the Live Simulation, which was led by Dr. Marco Gercke, Director of the Cybercrime Research Institute.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this seminar is a recognition for CyberSecurity Malaysia as the lead technical agency in the field of cyber security.

 
Cyber Security and Live Simulation Seminar, Kuala LumpurSymposium on Electronic Crime Research (eCrime 2015), Barcelona, Spain

Symposium on Electronic Crime Research (eCrime) 2015, organized by APWG.EU (Anti-Phishing Working Group European Union Foundation) was held from 26 to 29 May 2015 in Barcelona, Spain.

This year's symposium focuses on climate change and the constraints faced in handling the threat of cyber crime. It is also a platform for participants to exchange information on responding to an incident of cyber security, share current issues regarding cyber threats and to discuss the formation of a module to form partnerships among researchers and handlers of cyber security operations.

A total of 200 participants from various countries around the world attended the symposium, while CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Faiszatulnasro Bt Mohd Maksom, Analyst MyCERT. She also made a presentation titled "Lottery Scam and Mobile Threat in Malaysia" at the symposium.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in the conference has many advantages such as obtaining knowledge and information about how to manage incidents, learning the latest security strategy in incident management, improving technical knowledge and insight regarding cyber security problems and solutions and further strengthening the position of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the field of cyber security in the international arena.
