Crisis Simulation Exercise, Seri Kembangan

On August 1, 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia conducted a Crisis Simulation Exercise. It was the first full simulation ever organized by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

The Crisis Simulation Exercise is very important and also necessary for testing of CyberSecurity Malaysia’s Business Continuity Management (BCM)’s Procedures.

A BCM procedure must undergo periodic testing to ensure it is workable.

The exercise also prepares the relevant personnel on what to do during a real disaster or crisis situation.

In addition, the crisis simulation exercise raised the level of awareness and understanding of staff about BCM, which includes response and recovery Procedures.

 
 
CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) Technology Roadmap Workshop & Discussion Session, Putrajaya

CyberSecurity Malaysia organized a Workshop and Discussion Sessions for CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) Technology Roadmap on 6 and 7 August 2015.

The program was held to obtain feedback and inputs on the initiatives and programs related to cyber security in preparation for the production of CSM Technology Roadmap to be implemented during the next five years (until 2020).

During the workshop, corporate programs, strategic initiatives and list of events to be undertaken by CyberSecurity Malaysia before Jan 2015 were analyzed and updated if necessary. This would ensure the implementation will be more efficient and effective.

 
 
NICTSeD 2015 – Qualifying, Quarter and Semi Finals, Johor Bahru
  8-13 August 2015
 

CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with the Educational Technology Division (ETD) and the support of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) organized the National ICT Security Discourse : CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy Cup 2015 or simply NICTSED 2015 in Johor Bahru.

Qualifying rounds and the quarter-final were held at the state Educational Technology Division (ETD) while the semi-final was held at the Johor Education Department from 8 to 13 August 2015.

A total of 15 schools across the Nation competed for the CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy and cash prizes worth RM15,000 The NICTSeD grand finale were to be held in Kuala Lumpur on 8 September 2015 in conjunction with the Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference and Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2015, organized by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

2015 is the third year of NICTSeD being organized. This year NICTSeD is also supported by strategic partners such as BAE Systems, CIMB Bank and DiGi Telecommunications.

 
 
Cyber Security Technical Training Among ASEAN Countries, Selangor

In conjunction with the appointment of Malaysia as the Chairman of ASEAN in 2015, a technical training program related to cyber security was held from 17 to 26 August 2015 at the RHR Hotel @ UNITEN, Kajang. This training program was under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the National Security Council (NSC).

The closing ceremony was held on August 25, 2015 and graced by the YB. Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The objectives of this training program are:

  1. Promote awareness and ability in creating a more secure cyberspace;
  2. Provide important knowledge in the implementation of ISO / IEC 27001: 2013 - Information Security Management Systems, control and evaluation of security incidents;
  3. Provide practical experience in network vulnerability analysis and coordination in dealing with these shortcomings.

A total of 17 IT professionals from eight ASEAN countries attended this training, while the trainers are from CyberSecurity Malaysia.

The technical training program has improved Malaysia's leadership as a Chairman of ASEAN 2015 in the field of cyber security. It has also strengthened ties between Malaysia and other countries, especially other developing member countries of ASEAN in the field of cyber security.

 
 
Oracle Security Workshop 2015, Kuala Lumpur

On August 18, 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated in the Oracle Security Workshop 2015 organized by Oracle Enterprise Security.

The workshop was organized to discuss current issues related to cyber security including the types of cyber threats, reason for it to happen, the impact of cyber attacks on the sectors involved and the strategies to deal with such attacks.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin, Chief Technology Officer who made a presentation titled "The New Realities of Cyber Crime".

CyberSecurity Malaysia's active involvement in this workshop has contributed to the knowledge and skills development in the field of cyber security.

 
 
Cyber Security Readiness Workshop, Cyberjaya

On August 18 and August 27, 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia organized a Workshop on Cyber Security Readiness for technical officers of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). The workshop is aimed to enhance the participants' understanding of the steps and proactive actions that need to be in confronting and dealing with cyber attacks.

A total of 14 MOSTI agencies attended the first workshop and 21 agencies attended the second session that was opened by the Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab.

The workshop was an opportunity for CyberSecurity Malaysia to share experiences and to obtain input and feedback regarding cyber security.

 
 
Briefing on the Preparation of Information Security Management System Certification (ISO/IEC 27001:2013), Kuala Lumpur

A Briefing Session on how to Setup Information Security Management System Certification (ISO / IEC 27001: 2013) was held on August 25, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur.

The briefing was held with the purpose of providing information on ISO / IEC 27001: 2013 to organizations that had been prepared for the Information Security Management System certification. A total of 28 organizations under the national infrastructure critical information (CNII) and government agencies were present.

As a Certification Body that has received accreditation MS ISO / IEC 17021, CyberSecurity Malaysia made a clarification regarding certification for three (3) years under the CyberSecurity Malaysia Information Security Management System Audit and Certification (CSM27001).

 
 
MyIoT Week 2015, Kuala Lumpur

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in MyIoT Week 2015 organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and MIMOS Berhad on August 25 and 26, 2015 at the Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur.

CyberSecurity Malaysia also took part in the exhibition, where corporate information and services offered by CyberSecurity Malaysia were displayed including data recovery service.

Meanwhile, Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin, Chief Technology Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia was also at the Istana Hotel during IoT week to become a moderator during a forum entitled "Security & Privacy Principles Versus the Reality of IoT."

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement in MyIoT Week 2015 has opened up an opportunity to promote the services offered in addition it also enhances the role of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the area of IoT.

 
 
Enhancing Port Security Against Terrorism Course Seminar, Pulau Pinang

On 25 and 27 August 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in a seminar called “Enhancing Port Security Against Terrorism” organized by the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter Terrorism (SEARCCT), Secretariat of the Auxiliary Police Port Malaysia and Penang Port Sdn Bhd.

Lt. Col. Sazali Sukardi (Retired), Vice President of Strategic Research, represented CyberSecurity Malaysia and made a presentation titled "Cyber Terrorism: Current Trends and Its Challenges to Maritime and Port Security."

CyberSecurity Malaysia participation in this seminar is an acknowledgment of CyberSecurity Malaysia as a center of cyber security experts of the Nation, as well as to prove that CyberSecurity Malaysia is the main reference in the field of cyber security.

 
 
Development of Cyber Security Framework for the Public Sector Workshop 2016 - 2020 with Industry, Kuala Lumpur

CyberSecurity Malaysia has been appointed by the Malaysia Administrative Modernization and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) to implement a cyber security framework for the public sector. Thus, on August 26, 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia organized Development Workshop On Cyber Security Framework for Public Sector (RAKKSSA) 2016-2020 with industry to discuss the preparation of this project.

RAKKSSA will be developed to guide the public sector in managing cyber security protection and government ICT assets. In addition, RAKKSSA expected to strengthen the future direction of ICT security in line with the 11th Malaysia Plan.

In addition to MAMPU and CyberSecurity Malaysia, are also involved in the development of this project is the Office of the Chief of National Security (CGSO) and MIMOS Berhad.

 
 
Global Payment Summit 2015, Singapore

CyberSecurity Malaysia supported the Global Payment Summit 2015 which took place in Singapore from 26 to 27 August 2015.

Cyber Security Malaysia was invited to share information and experience in combating cybercrime. Representing CyberSecurity to the event was Carrine Teoh, Head of Product Development and Marketing Department who gave a presentation titled "Data Protection - Trends and Strategies".

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement in the Global Payment Summit 2015 is yet another recognition of CyberSecurity Malaysia's expertise in the field of cyber security. It also put the name of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the international arena.

 
 
KL Converge 2015, Kuala Lumpur

On 27 to 29 August 2015 there was an international event organized by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Commission, known as KL Converge 2015.

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in KL Converge 2015 as exhibitor for three days at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, KLCC. CyberSecurity Malaysia’s participation was under the Malaysian Pavilion. The services that were exhibited are Data Recovery Service and other services offered by CyberSecurity Malaysia such as Cyber999 Help Centre, CyberCSI, MyCERT, CyberSAFE and MyCC.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation is in line with the objectives of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to raise awareness of information technology security.

 
 
CIO Summit Malaysia 2015, Kuala Lumpur

CyberSecurity Malaysia supported the CIO Summit Malaysia 2015 organized by Executive Networks Media and IDC Asia / Pacific. The event, which was held on 27 August 2015 was attended by the Chief Information Officer (CIO), and senior executive officers of IT organizations.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to make a presentation, where Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin, Chief Technology Officer gave a lecture entitled "The Digital Transformation: Cyber Security Issues and Challenges".

 
 
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Electric Commerce Steering Group-Data Privacy Subgroup (APEC ECSG-DPS) & World Trustmark Alliance (WTA) Task Force Meeting, Manila, Philippines

On 28 to 30 August 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the APEC Task Force CSG-DPS and WTA Task Force Meeting, organized by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the World Trustmark Alliance (WTA) in collaboration with the Government of the Philippines located in Manila, Philippines. CyberSecurity Malaysia participation is in the capacity as Chairman of the WTA (World Trustmark Alliance).

By attending the APEC meeting CSG-DPS, CyberSecurity Malaysia obtained information and disclosures about the economic development in the Asia Pacific region, particularly in the development of data privacy in electronic commerce (electronic commerce development data privacy).

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Information Security Certification Body (ISCB), Head of Department Wan Shafiuddin Wan Zainuddin and Hasnida Zainuddin, Senior Analyst.

 
 
Lecture on Cyber War at the Maktab Pertahanan Angkatan Tentera (MPAT) 35/2-15, Kuala Lumpur

On August 27, 2015, CyberSecurity Malaysia has been invited to deliver a lecture titled "The Cyber Warfare" to the participants consisting of military officers, police and governance diplomatic rank of lieutenant colonel and colonel or equivalent. The participants were mostly from ASEAN countries, except Jordan and the United States.

A total of 40 participants under the relevant course modules of Military Studies Research Crisis, Conflicts and Wars have attended a lecture delivered by Lt. Col. Sazali Sukardi (Retired), Vice President of Strategic Research.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this program provided a platform to the participants about the defense and the security challenges at a strategic level in the cyber dimension, which is the focus of the military sector in the trend of digital technology-based modern warfare.

In addition, CyberSecurity Malaysia also be able to establish close cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, especially MPAT and this will enhance cooperation and promote the services among the defense.
