The World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS) 2016, Geneva, Switzerland
2 - 6 May 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in The World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS) 2016. It was jointly organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Nations Conference united on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva, Switzerland from May 2 to 6, 2016.

WSIS Forum 2016 is the largest annual community gathering for ICT Development which exposes various ICT topics. WSIS Prize 2016 award ceremony took place during this event. It becomes a platform to identify and showcase the successes and models that can be replicated and implemented by the community.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was listed among the five (5) best projects for the WSIS Prize 2016 award under C11 category: International and Regional Cooperation entitled "Securing the Cyber Space through International Collaboration of the Computer Emergency Response Teams". This award is a global recognition for CyberSecurity Malaysia’s expertise and capabilities. General Secretary of ITU, Houlin Zhao presented the award.

Rahayu Azlina Ahmad and Noraini Abdul Rahman of the International Relations Department represented CyberSecurity Malaysia. CyberSecurity Malaysia also presented a paper entitled "Spam: Understanding and Mitigating the Challenges Faced by Internet Emerging Economies" at the workshop themed 'Spam'. CyberSecurity Malaysia’s participation in this forum has reinforced its reputation in the cyber security field internationally.

Third Country Transformation Workshop 2016, Singapura
3 - 6 May 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the Third Country Transformation Programme 2016 Workshop organized by the US Department of State and INTERPOL in Singapore from May 3 to 6, 2016.

This workshop becomes a platform to exchange information and experience on ways to defeat cyber crime from various aspects - legal, technical and international collaboration. The workshop also exposed current trends and modus operandi of cyber crime globally and procedures to obtain information to investigate of cyber crimes.

Mohd Rizal Abu Bakar, Technical Analyst, Cyber Action & Intelligence Team presented CyberSecurity Malaysia.

This workshop expands CyberSecurity Malaysia’s efficiency to coordinate and assist authorities against cyber crime. It also reinforces existing collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia with other international authorities such as INTERPOL, the FBI and Facebook social media administrator.

Preparatory Meeting of the OIC-CERT Annual Conference 2016, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
4 - 5 May 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the Preparatory Meeting of the OIC-CERT Annual Conference 2016 organized by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on May 4 and 5, 2016. Dr. Zahri Yunus, Chief Operating Officer and Mohd Shamir Hashim, Senior Vice President of International and Government Relations Division represented CyberSecurity Malaysia. CyberSecurity Malaysia is the Permanent Secretariat of the OIC-CERT.

Preparatory Meeting of the OIC-CERT Annual Conference 2016 is a coordination meeting between CyberSecurity Malaysia with OIC to prepare for the Annual General Meeting and Conference of the OIC-CERT 2016 which will be held on December 11 to 14, 2016.

The 8th General Meeting and Annual OIC-CERT Conference 2016 theme is “Towards Resilient Cyber Ummah”. It will be hosted by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and OIC Secretary General, Tan Sri Iyad Ameen Madani will officiate the ceremony.

CyberSecurity Malaysia as an active member of the Steering Committee and as a Permanent Secretariat of the OIC-CERT received continuous support from other OIC-CERT members. To date, CyberSecurity Malaysia has succeed in conducting OIC CERT annually and it is entrusted to manage this annual event.

Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (ANGKASA) and CyberSecurity Malaysia

On May 6, 2016 CyberSecurity Malaysia and Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (ANGKASA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

This MoU aims to increase knowledge about cyber security among national cooperative bodies. This MoU agreed that CyberSecurity Malaysia will deliver training programs and cyber security services to organizations under ANGKASA, particularly cooperative bodies that have high risks websites that are prone to cyber threats. In addition, CyberSecurity Malaysia will also brief about the importance of cyber security awareness to ANGKASA.

Chief Executive Officer of ANGKASA, Tuan Hj Yahaya Naser Khan and Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab officiated this ceremony and it was witnessed by Dato' Hj Abdul Fattah Abdullah President of ANGKASA and Dr.Solahuddin Shamsuddin Chief Technology Officer, CyberSecurity Malaysia.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was able to further strengthen its position as a leader in cyber security and establishes strategic cooperation among agencies through this partnership.

High Performance Cloud Computing Center (HPC3) Workshop, Kuala Lumpur
7 May 2016

On May 7, 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in High Performance Cloud Computing Centre workshop organized by Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP). This one-day workshop aims to accomplish PC3 vision and mission and expand research networks.

20 participants from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), CyberSecurity Malaysia, Petronas, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and NVIDIA attended this workshop.

This workshop leveraged cooperation between CyberSecurity Malaysia and UTP in order to conduct research on cloud technology information center. UTP lecturers were appointed as experts for cloud technology and privacy.

Presentation/Meeting at Honeynet Conference 2016 - The Honeynet Project Annual Workshop 2016, San Antonio, Texas, Amerika Syarikat
9 – 13 May 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended Honeynet Project Annual Conference in Texas, US from May 9 to 13, 2016.

This conference became a platform to reveal latest trends in the field of cyber security Industrial Control System / Supervisory and Data Acquisition (ICS / SCADA). Cyber-security experts were able to exchange views with experts from various countries in this conference.

Ahmad Aizuddin Aizat Tajul Ariff, Technical Analyst, MYCERT represented CyberSecurity Malaysia. He presented a case study entitled "Honeynet Project: A Honeynet Implementation Case Study" in a closed session at the conference. 40 cyber security experts from various countries participated in this conference.

3rd ASEAN-EU STI : CONNECT2SEA Workshop on ICT Research and Innovation for Sustainable Economic and Social Development in ASEAN, Hanoi, Vietnam
10 – 12 May 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the 3rd ASEAN-EU CONNECT2SEA STI Workshop from May 10 to 12, 2016 in Hanoi, Vietnam. This conference gathers ICT (Information and Communication Technology) experts in the European Union (EU) and Southeast Asia (SEA) to exchange their thoughts for ICT research thus strengthen cooperation between countries involved in CONNECT2SEA project.

CONNECT2SEA project supports European Union and Southeast Asia (SEA) ICT policy and assists the EU-SEA ICT research, development and innovation cooperation.

Among the topics covered were ICT financial assistance, research and innovation, best practices and success stories, experiences, big data and also policies.

Dr. Zahri Yunus, Chief Operating Officer and Ismamuradi Dato' Hj Abdul Kadir, Head of Strategic Management Department represented CyberSecurity Malaysia and delivered a presentation entitled "Cybersecurity Initiative in securing cyberspace ASEAN". CyerSecurity Malaysia's participation upholds its credibility globally and increases its capacity and networks with companies worldwide.

Fortinet's APAC Partner Retreat 2016 at Chengdu, China

CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to participate in Fortinet Partner Business Retreat 2016 in Chengdu, China for 5 days on May 16 to 20, 2016.

Lt. Col. Sazali Sukardi (Retired), Vice President of Strategic Research represented CyberSecurity Malaysia and delivered a talk at the panel discussion entitled "Asia-Pacific Security Framework".

CyberSecurity Malaysia demonstrated its commitment to work with cyber security industry leaders globally. Moreover, this is a platform for CyberSecurity Malaysia to express their ideas. It also proves the commitment and leadership of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the field of cyber security at the global arena.

Karnival Kreativity & Science 4U, Tamparuli, Sabah
17 – 18 May 2016

On May 17 and 18, 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia took part in the Creativity & Science4U 2016 carnival in Tamparuli, Sabah.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this carnival aims to expose cyber security technologies to reveal the importance of ICT in cyber security for this globalization era. This was also an opportunity for CyberSecurity Malaysia to promote its services such as Cyber 999, Digital Forensics, Malaysia Trustmark, MyCyberSecurity Clinic and others.

Over 1,000 visitors among them are students, teachers, parents and local residents attended this 2 day carnival. 18 agencies under MOSTI participated in this carnival.

5th Information Security Summit Spotlight on Cloud, Kuala Lumpur
17 - 18 May 2016

On May 17 and 18, 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the 5th Information Security Summit organized by the Asian Cloud Spotlight on World Summit.

This conference discussed cloud covering transition costs of cloud services, security of information stored, the problem of information in cloud storage abroad, ways to integrate the different cloud types and the advantages of using cloud services.

About 50 participants participated in this conference. Norahana Salimin, Ahmad Dahari Jarno, Muhamad Faeez Pauzi and Nor Safwan Amir Salleh from Department of Security Assurance represented CyberSecurity Malaysia.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference expands its knowledge about the cloud in preparation for cloud-related security services.

Malware Research Project, BruCERT, Brunei Darussalam
17 - 20 May 2016

As a Permanent Secretariat of the OIC-CERT, CyberSecurity Malaysia delivered a Technical Training Programs for the Establishment of the Centre for Research and Coordination Malware Emergency Response Team Computers - Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC-CERT) located at the Headquarters Team Computer Emergency Response Brunei (BruCERT), Brunei Darussalam.

The establishment of this Centre for Research and Coordination Malware Computer Emergency Response Team - Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC-CERT) obtained OIC-CERT approval during the Annual General Meeting of the OIC-CERT in Brunei Darussalam in 2014.

A pilot project was initiated with the participation of several OIC member countries including Brunei Darussalam-CERT. It was conducted through the Computer Emergency Response Team Brunei (BruCERT). This was a joint effort among OIC-CERT countries in order to exchange malware-related data, conduct analysis and detect early malware-related threats. This project aims to provide an overview of the cyber threat landscape in OIC-CERT countries and globally.

CyberSecurity Malaysia is responsible to deliver training and reveal the data analysis of malware threats in the OIC-CERT countries. In addition, CyberSecurity Malaysia offers to assist these countries to increase their operational efficiency and provide a platform for OIC CERT countries to discuss strategic directions to defeat malware.

This training program reinforced existing cooperation between CyberSecurity Malaysia and BruCERT in research, development and technological innovation in cyber security field. This is a recognition for CyberSecurity Malaysia's expertise in malware research. Thus, it increased the demand for Malaysia to continue to deliver cyber security training in the for OIC-CERT countries

MOSTI Social Innovation Program : Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 Perak Edition
18 – 19 May 2016

On May 18 and 19, 2016 Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 took place at Kerian, Perak. This is CyberSecurity Malaysia initiative through MOSTI Social Innovation Program (MSI). It aims to provide data recovery, data sanitization and cyber security services to the public. Perak Darul Ridzuan was among the 6 states for this program.

Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 introduced Entrepreneur Development Programme (EDP) through MyCyberSecurity Clinic (MyCSC) which was a development program for MyCSC Outlet. This became a 'touch point' to address problems related to Digital Forensics and a catalyst for entrepreneurship.

The Perak State EXCO, YB. Dato' Shahrul Zaman Yahya who is also the Chairman of the Human Resources, Youth and Sports of the State of Perak officiated Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 in Perak.

Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 includes technical and entrepreneurial training, CyberSAFE talks; and Digital Forensic services such Data Recovery and Data Sanitization.

Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 exposed CyberSecurity Malaysia services to the community in the rural areas.

Media Briefing on MOSTI Social Innovation Program (MSI) for the Development of Pusat MyCyberKomuniti@Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

On May 19, 2016, a media briefing took place for MyCyberKomuniti@Sabah, a program developed under the MOSTI Social Innovation Program (MSI). MSI Program by MOSTI aims to improve local communities’ life by exposing them to Information and Communication Technology ICT.

MyCyberKomuniti@Sabah was established in line with the Government's aspiration to develop Malaysia as a competitive nation. MyCyberKomuniti@Sabah aims to be an ICT hub for various ICT programs and activities as well as a platform to disseminate knowledge on computers usage and the Internet.

It visions to empower local communities to overcome cyber security issues hence bridge the digital divide.

Koperasi Tokou Sabah Berhad and CyberSecurity Malaysia signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to kick off this project. Lt. Col. Mustaffa Ahmad (Retired), Vice President of Outreach and Capacity Building, CyberSecurity Malaysia and Felix Saang, Chairman of the Koperasi Tokou Sabah Berhad officiated this MoA.

MyCyberKomuniti@Sabah will be equipped with ICT facilities such as computers, printers, scanners and Internet facilities. Locals will be able to perform online banking and transactions with the use of computers and Internet facilities.

China-ASEAN Network Security Emergency Response Capacity Building Seminar, Chengdu, China
23 - 26 May 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in CHINA-ASEAN Seminar on Network Security Emergency Response on May 23 to 26, 2016 in Chengdu, China organized by China Computer Emergency Response Team / Coordination Center (CNCERT / CC) organized this seminar.

The title for this seminar was “Gather Cyber Talents, Build Secure Ecosystem”. Government agencies from different countries in ASEAN participated in this seminar. Megat Muazzam Abdul Muttalib, Head of Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) represented CyberSecurity Malaysia. He delivered a presentation entitled "Coordinated Malware Eradication and Remediation Project - CMERP" during a technical forum in the seminar.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in the seminar was an opportunity to establish regional cooperation and to discuss, exchange knowledge about malware threats. This became a platform for "Coordinated Malware Eradication and Remediation" and Lebahnet (Honeynet) project internationally.

Visit by the Officials from Educational Technology Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia to CyberSecurity Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur

Officials from Educational Technology Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia visited CyberSecurity Malaysia on May 25, 2016. This visit is in conjunction with CyberSAFE Ambassador Program, which was conducted on May 23 and 24, 2016 at Selangor Education Technology Division.

The officals who took part in CyberSAFE Ambassador Program will be coaches for the National ICT Security Discourse 2016 (NICTSeD) in August 2016 at Terengganu.

This visit aimed to strengthen strategic cooperation between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Educational Technology Division and disseminate information on NICTSeD 2016. 25 officials from Educational Technology Division participated in this visit.

Malaysia Open Source Conference 2016 (MOSCMY 2016), Bangi, Selangor
25 – 27 May 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in Malaysia Open Source Conference 2016 or MOSCMY 2016 organized by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on May 25 to 27, 2016.

This conference became a platform to share knowledge and exchange views on open source technologies and its solutions. Participants were able to understand and learn new skills in the field of open source in order to maximize organizational profit.

15 participants attended the 3 day conference at the Faculty of Information Science and Technology, UKM, Bangi. Officials from Department of Security Assurance represented CyberSecurity Malaysia in the conference.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was able to obtain knowledge on smart card including Hardware Security, Cloud Computing Technology, Network Security and IPv6 which is the fastest widespread technological development that are vulnerable to security threats cyber.

4th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology, Bandung, Indonesia
25 – 27 May 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the 4th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology organized by Telkom University, Indonesia in Bandung from May 25 to 27, 2016.

This 3 day conference included presentations by international scientific community and a keynote address by the principal investigator of the renowned university. This was a platform for researchers and industry practitioners to share new ideas, research results and practical development experiences to educate on technology, communication and data analysis.

Mohamad Nizam Kassim from the Strategic Research Department represented CyberSecurity Malaysia. He delivered a presentation entitled "Word Stemming Challenges in Malay Texts: A Literature Review".

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference retained its position as a leading agency in the field of cyber security in Southeast Asia.

Cyber Security Awareness Program for Public Sector, Putrajaya
27 May 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with Malaysia Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) organized cyber security awareness program for the public sector in Putrajaya on May 27, 2016.

The program aimed to provide recent trends on cyber security landscape to fulfill government agencies ICT requirements to develop systems that are resilient towards hackers. 86 participants from 47 government agencies participated in this program.

CyberSecurity Malaysia introduced certification services and CyberSecurity Malaysia's role and responsibilities under MyCC Policy Scheme. CyberSecurity Malaysia also introduced its products and services.

Chanjiang International Forum 2016, Wuhan, China
27 - 31 May 2016

Society for the Policing Cyber Space (POLCYB) invited CyberSecurity Malaysia to attend Changjiang International Forum 2016 organized by the Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in Wuhan, China on May 28 to 31, 2016.

Lt. Col. Sazali Sukardi (Retired), Vice President of Strategic Research represented CyberSecurity Malaysia. He delivered a presentation entitled "Legal Challenges in Addressing Cyber Environment - Malaysia's Experiences".

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this international forum demonstrated its commitment and determination in cyber security. This was also an international recognition for CyberSecurity Malaysia’s role and contribution to address numeorus cyber crimes through legislative approach.

This enhanced Malaysia’s image and cyber security index while stimulating global assurance when onlining due to CyberSecurity Malaysia’s cyber defence expertise and capabilities.

Launching Ceremony of the 5th International Cryptology and Information Security 2016, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

The 5th International Cryptology and Information Security 2016 (Cryptology 2016) opening ceremony was held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on May 31, 2016. YB. Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) officiated this ceremony.

Cryptology 2016 was jointly organized by CyberSecurity Malaysia and Malaysian Society for Cryptology Research (MSCR) and supported by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

This conference is an ICT platform for practitioners globally. Cryptology2016 presents its research results and exchange ideas and recnt innovation with the participants. It includes theories, recent cryptology news and information security. Over 200 participants participated in this conference.

In this conference, CyberSecurity Malaysia launched CSM Randomness Test Tool (CRTT), a cryptographic analyst.

The presence of the Minister to officiate and launch CRTT was the highlight for this conference. CyberSecurity Malaysia as the orgnaizer for this conference demonstrated its dynamic commitment in the field of cryptology in Malaysia.

IDC’s Asia/Pacific Enterprise Hybrid Cloud 2016 Conference, Kuala Lumpur

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the IDC's Asia / Pacific Enterprise Hybrid Cloud 2016 Conference in Kuala Lumpur on May 31, 2016

This 1-day conference discussed IT technology cloud strategy in an organization which included three major elements: service management, workload management and modernization of the infrastructure in the data center. The combination of these components with GRC elements, Governance, Risk and Compliance will determine the ability of an IT organization in driving the transformation of data-driven business environment, mobile intensive and competitive.

120 participants participated in this conference including officials of the Department of Security Assurance, CyberSecurity Malaysia.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference aimed to develop thorough understanding and knowledge about hybrid cloud technology, as wells as to streamline research capabilities to the combination of private and public clouds.

Administrative Technical Training on OTRS, Bangkok, Thailand
30 May – 3 June 2016

On May 30 to June 3, 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the practical training of installation and administration of OTRS system version 5 organized by OTRS Sdn Bhd in Bangkok, Thailand.

This training revealed CyberSecurity Malaysia's latest OTRS system installations required database installation and initial package of modifications towards the operating system in order to optimize the use OTRS system.

11 participants participated in this training including CyberSecurity Malaysia’s representative, Syazwan Hafizudin Shuhaimi from MyCERT Department.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this training improved their knowledge about the OTRS system version 5 along side refined its skills to administer and preserve OTRS system operations.
