Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) ISO 22301 Awareness Workshop
5 – 6 September 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with Malaysia Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) organized Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) ISO 22301 Awareness Workshop on 5 and 6 September 2016 at the Malaysian Nuclear Agency.

The workshop was held to introduce the ISO 22301 standards and its requirements, implementation and development of the BCSM to over 30 participants comprising officers from various units at the Malaysian Nuclear Agency.

The implementation of this workshop is a result of the Charter of Project Development Implementation, Adaptation and Certification Based on ISO 22301 for Business Continuity Management System that was sealed by CyberSecurity Malaysia, the Malaysian Nuclear Agency and MAMPU.

This project is expected to create uniformity in the implementation of business continuity management in the public sector. In addition, this project will also serve as a benchmark for the level of preparedness of public sector agencies, led by MAMPU with the support of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

10th European Conference on Information Systems Management (ECISM), Portugal
5 – 9 September 2016

On 8 and 9 September 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia delegation led by Dr. Zahri Yunos, Chief Operating Officer together with Dr. Aswami Mohd Ariffin, Senior Vice President, Cyber Security Responsive Services Division and Mohd Zabri Adil Talib, Head of Digital Forensics attended the 10th European Conference on Information Systems Management (ECISM) at University of Evora, Lisbon, Portugal. At the conference, Dr. Zahri Yunos and Dr. Aswami Ariffin presented a paper entitled "CSIRT Management Workflow: Practical Guide for Critical Infrastructure Organizations".

ECISM 2016 received more than 84 findings, in which 25 are academic papers, 7 PhD research papers, 3 Masters research papers and 5 research papers. Besides Malaysia, representatives from Belgium, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Sweden, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Vietnam also presented their papers. ECISM 2016 conference proceedings were listed in Thomson Reuters ISI Web of Science (WOS) Citation Index and Elsevier SCOPUS.

The delegates also held a strategic discussion on CyberDEF services with BAE Threat Intelligence Systems and AnubisNetworks. During the visit, they had the opportunity to exchange opinions, share experiences and expertise in cyber security. The opportunity was also taken to strengthen the strategic partnership with the experts in the field of cyber security in these two countries.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference strengthened the position and reputation of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the field of cyber security research which is recognized globally.

Working Visit by YB Dato' Sri Azalina binti Dato' Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister Department to CyberSecurity Malaysia
6 September 2016

On 6 September 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia welcomed a visit from YB Dato' Sri Azalina binti Dato' Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office.

The purpose of this visit was to review the operation, function and role of CyberSecurity Malaysia. Delegations of 10 were briefed about CyberSecurity Malaysia. They also visited the Digital Forensic Laboratory, malware research center, Cyber999 and Security Assurance laboratory.

The delegates were welcomed by YABhg. General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed (Retired), Chairman of the Board of CyberSecurity Malaysia alongside with Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

IACSP ASEAN Security Awards & Symposium 2016, Kuala Lumpur
6 September 2016

On 6 September 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the IACSP ASEAN Security Awards & Symposium 2016 at InterContinental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The program was organized by the International Association of Counter Terrorism & Security Proffesionals (IACSP). Among the special guests were YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' Sri Khalid bin Abu Bakar, the Inspector General and YBhg. Major General Dato' Mohd Noor bin Osman, the Defence Intelligence Division Staff, Malaysian Armed Forces.

Lt. Col. Sazali Sukardi (Retired), Senior Vice President, Strategic Research Division, represented CyberSecurity Malaysia and presented a paper entitled "Addressing the Misuse of the Internet for Terrorist Activities via Adaptive Security Approaches". He also became one of the panellists to discuss the strategy to fight terrorism in cyberspace. In addition, among the other panels were representatives from Interpol France, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as well as Georgetown University.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement in this program provided an opportunity to demonstrate leadership as a reference agency in national cyber security. It is also to demonstrate CyberSecurity Malaysia's commitment to elevate aspects of cyber security in the country.

Cyber Security Risk Management for C-Suite Training, Kuala Lumpur
7 September 2016

On 7 September 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in IFSEC Southeast Asia 2016. At the event, CyberSecurity Malaysia organized a training program called Cyber Security Risk Management for C-Suite held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This training program was officiated by YABhg. General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamad (Retired), Chairman of the Board of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

The purpose of the training was to evaluate the understanding and knowledge on cyber security for the Board and the top management of an organization. This training also exposed proactive measures to be taken, ascertain the level of preparedness in facing the cyber threats and identify gaps and ways to respond to a cyber attack.

Besides that, CyberSecurity Malaysia also participated in IFSEC 2016 security exhibition. This was an opportunity to promote CyberSevurity Malaysia services to the visitors.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation at IFSEC 2016 has strengthened its position as a cyber security specialist agency in Malaysia.

Official Launching of Cyber Range Malaysia, Gombak, Selangor
8 September 2016

On 8 September 2016, Cyber Range Malaysia was launched at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Gombak, Selangor.

Cyber Range Malaysia was established on a public-private partnership between CyberSecurity Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Cyber Intelligent Sdn. Bhd.

Cyber Range Malaysia was developed to provide research program and practical training (hands-on) as well as simulation to prepare for cyber attacks. Through Cyber Range Malaysia, organizations can now utilize international standards infrastructure for cyber-attacks simulation to improve their cyber defense capabilities.

It includes a laboratory, known as CSM-IIUM Cyber Security Center of Excellence (COE) located in IIUM Gombak campus. In addition, Cyber Range Malaysia also provides education and certification training for Cyber Defender Certified Associate (CCDA) which targeted at network administrators, information security officers and information technology professionals.

Through Cyber Range Malaysia, more professional from information technology and cyber security fields are expected to be trained to improve their skills and cyber defense skills.

Cyber Range Malaysia was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

GE Digital Advantage Conference 2016, Kuala Lumpur
8 September 2016

On 8 September 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in GE Digital Advantage Conference 2016, organized by GE Event Sdn Bhd.

The conference was held to review the information technology companies that introduced the Internet of Things (IoT) to the industryas well as the potential to generate a global market value. It is also a platform to discuss efforts to improve production and product quality by minimizing costs through the efficiency of information technology.

Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin, Chief Technology Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia became a panel at a session entitled "The Security Challenge in the IoT Era"

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference provides an opportunity to strengthen its position as a leading agency in the field of cyber security in Malaysia and abroad.

2nd China-ASEAN Information Harbor Forum, Nanning, China
11 - 12 September 2016

On 11 and 12 September 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the 2nd China-ASEAN Information Harbor Forum in Nanning, China.

This forum was organized by the Cyberspace Administration of the People's Republic of China and The Bureau of International Cooperation, a joint initiative of China - ASEAN Information Harbor that was agreed during China - ASEAN Cyberspace Forum on 18 September 2014.

The forum was organized to strengthen communication and the relationship between China and ASEAN countries. It also aimed to encourage information sharing and cooperation to establish a platform for communication in the future.

Lt. Col. Sazali Sukardi (Retired), Senior Vice President of Strategic Research Division led the delegation from CyberSecurity Malaysia and joined by Noor Azwa Azreen Dato 'Abdul Aziz, Executive of the Strategic Research and Advisory Service Department and Nadia Salwa Mohamed, Executive of Government Engagement Department.

At the forum, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in "The Establishment and Envision of China-ASEAN Information Harbor" and "Interconnection of Network Infrastructure" session.

CyberSecurity Malaysia has the opportunity to show its leadership as a government agency in the field of cyber security. This strengthened its role and commitment at the international level in order to increase cooperation and communication with other organizations of similar interest.

Implementation Workshop on ISO 22301 of Business Continuity Management System (BCMS), Putrajaya
19 - 21 September 2016

An Implementation Workshop on ISO 22301 of Business Continuity Management System was conducted on 19 to 21 September 2016 with Malaysia Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) in Putrajaya.

The workshop was organized to specify the implementation of business continuity management system, including identifying roles and responsibilities in the implementation of BCMS, conducting risk analysis and identifying policy continuity in MAMPU.

By organizing this workshop, CyberSecurity Malaysia and MAMPU successfully continue its initiative to create uniformity for the implementation of business continuity management in the public sector in Malaysia.

Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Agreement between CyberSecurity Malaysia dan Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai, Johor
21 September 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Agreement on 21 September 2016 at the Faculty of Computing, UTM, Skudai, Johor.

This strategic cooperation relationship between CyberSecurity Malaysia and UTM focused on three key areas which are research in the field of Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI), Predictive Algorithm For Detecting Scams and Frauds Websites and Malware Analytics.

Besides that, the establishment of Industrial Laboratory based on the collaboration between UTM and CyberSecurity Malaysia was proposed to the Faculty of Computing UTM. UTM-CSM Cyber Security X Lab will be a catalyst to expand expertise between UTM and CyberSecurity Malaysia. It will also be a reference in the national and international levels. The lab will also conduct research and community outreach programs related to cyber security.

This memorandum of understanding was signed by Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia while Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail (TNC (PI) represented Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru campus.

This collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia and UTM are able to empower expertise and research in the field of cyber security. Both organizations will be recognized in this field at the national and international levels. In addition, it also exposes UTM lecturers and students towards cyber security issues.

Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Scope International (M) Sdn Bhd, Kuala Lumpur
22 September 2016

On 22 September 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Scope International (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank. This ceremony was held at Wisma Scope International in Kuala Lumpur.

This Memorandum of Understanding aimed to establish a closer cooperation between these two entities with regards to strengthening the ability of cyber security in Malaysia, especially in the banking sector and financial institutions in Malaysia.

Through this memorandum of understanding, research and development of cyber security awareness programs and human capital will be established.

In addition, it creates opportunities for Cyber Security Professional Development Program, in which CyberSecurity Malaysia aims to train and deliver certified cyber security professional. Furthermore, this collaboration is expected to contribute to efforts in producing more than 10,000 professionals in the field of cyber security.

This Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia and Matthew Norris, Chief Execuive Officer of Scope International (M) Sdn Bhd and witnessed by YB Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Creativity & Science 4U Carnival, Melaka
23 – 25 September 2016

In line with the efforts to increase awareness on information technology security towards the society, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in Creativity & Science 4U Carnival, Melaka in Melaka on 23 to 25 September 2016. Science 4U Carnival is organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation at this carnival is a platform to share information and provide exposure to individuals and organizations on cyber security through activities conducted under the CyberSAFE Program which are CyberSAFE Science4U Quest @ Melaka and Interactive Exhibition.

CyberSAFE Quest that was held on 23 September 2016 was participated by 69 students from various schools in Melaka. Meanwhile, an interactive exhibition was held at Pahlawan Mall Melaka. This exhibition targeted students, youth and local communities.

This opportunity was taken to promote CyberSecurity Malaysia services such as Cyber 999, Digital Forensics, Malaysia Trustmark, MyCyberSecurity Clinic and CyberSAFE Program.

Visit from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) to CyberSecurity Malaysia
26 September 2016

On 26 September 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia welcomed a visit from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The delegation consists of Prof. Dr. Mohamad Fauzan Hj. Noordin - International Islamic University of Malaysia, Mr. Saad Wakas - Chief Executive Officer of ICMI Plus and Mr. Mohd Halimi Abdul Hamid, Secretary General of Wadah Pencerdasan Ummat Malaysia.

Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab welcomed the delegates then, chaired the discussion to establish bilateral cooperation between CyberSecurity Malaysia and ICMI Plus in cyber security. In addition, the delegates were briefed on the functions and role of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

This visit created an opportunity to cooperate in the field of cyber security.

Training Program on Certified Information Security Awareness Manager (CISAM) – NAM Institute for the Empowerment Women Malaysia (NIEW), Putrajaya
26 – 29 September 2016

On 26 to 29 September 2016, NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women Malaysia (NIEW) in collaboration with CyberSecurity Malaysia organized Training Program on Certified Information Security Awareness Manager (CISAM) in Putrajaya.

The objective of this program was to raise awareness on cyber security and information among member of NIEW and government agencies under the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare (KPWKM).

Among the content of the program were courses, exams, cyber security lectures and educational visits to CyberSecurity Malaysia. Mrs. Normalia Ibrahim, Director of NIEW attended the program and the closing ceremony.

23 participants from various countries including Zambia, Indonesia, Iran, Cambodia, South Africa and Nigeria participated in the training.

NIEW and CyberSecurity Malaysia has hosted this training for two years and it will further continue next year, as it is a right platform to provide knowledge towards the participants, particularly foreigners relating to effective planning in implementing cyber security awareness program.

Computer Emergency Response Team - Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC-CERT) Task Force Committee Meeting, Bali, Indonesia
26 September – 1 October 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia organized Computer Emergency Response Team - Organization of Islamic Countries Task Force Committee Meeting on 26 September 2016 until 1 October 2016 in Bali, Indonesia.

Besides Malaysia, four OIC-CERT members from Oman, Egypt, Indonesia and Iran participated in this meeting.

This meeting aimed to provide a channel for information sharing, to discuss current issues related to cyber security, to organize technical sessions and to exchange knowledge in order to improve cyber security administration efficiency. It is also a platform for members to identify strategic directions and challenges as well as to increase cooperation in the field of cyber security.

Malaysia played an important role as the Permanent Secretariat of the OIC-CERT in the field of cyber security. In addition, it enhanced Malaysia's capability in dealing with cyber threats through the exchanging of information, expertise, research and best practices between CyberSecurity Malaysia and OIC-CERT computer emergency response team.

Cyber Security Awareness Seminar & "Human Impact Management System For Information Security" (HIMIS) Project, Negeri Pahang Darul Makmur, Kuantan, Pahang
27 September 2016

In line with its role as the national cyber security specialist agency, CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to organize Cyber Security Awareness Seminar for information technology officers from various departments, statutory bodies and subsidiary government companies in Pahang Darul Makmur.

This one-day seminar was held at the Sultan Ahmad Shah International Convention Center, The Zenith Hotel, Kuantan on 27 September 2016.

In conjunction with this seminar, CyberSecurity Malaysia in support and cooperation from the University of Technical Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and Cyber Intelligence Sdn. Bhd. conducted a research project entitled Human Impact Management System for Information Security (HIMIS).

HIMIS is conducted to assess level of awareness on information security in the public sector in Malaysia. The report from this research will reveal the behavioural changes of the public sector workforce on cyber security. Besides Pahang, HIMIS project will also be implemented in Perak, Melaka and Sabah.

The Cyber Security Awareness Seminar was officiated by YB Dato' Shahaniza Shamsuddin, State EXCO of Women and Family Development, Communications and Multimedia, Pahang Darul Makmur. A total of 120 officers from state government departments, statutory bodies and local authorities attended at the seminar.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement in this program is to recognize its expertise in the field of cyber security in Malaysia. Besides that, it is an opportunity for CyberSecurity Malaysia to provide thorough explanation on its role and function in current cyber security scenario.

27 - 30 September 2016

A CyberSecurity Malaysia took part in Southeast Asia Regional Workshop on Countering Radical to Violence Over the Internet in Bali, Indonesia from 27 to 30 September 2016.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's shared experiences, knowledge and information on the latest developments in cyber security in Southeast Asia region. Besides that, it is a platform for networking among countries in Southeast Asia with Australia, United Kingdom and United States.

It is CyberSecurity Malaysia's vision to gain recognition as a global reference center in the field of cyber security. In addition, it strengthened its position as a reference center and cyber security specialist agency at the international level.

CODEBALI Security Conference, Bali, Indonesia
28 September 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia continues to gain recognition as an expert in cyber security in the region when Dr. Zahri Yunos, Chief Operating Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited as a speaker at the Security CODEBALI Conference - "Cyber Security Solution for Cyber Future" in Bali, Indonesia on 28 September 2016.

The conference was organized by the Indonesia Security Incident Response Team on Internet Infrastructure (ID-SIRTII / CC), the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Indonesia. It is a platform for public and private organizations to discuss interactively about cyber security.

Dr. Zahri presented at the session on 'Cyber Security Solution through Capacity Building and Critical Infrastructure Implementation'.

CODEBALI was officiated by Mariam Fatima Barata, Director General of Application Informatics, Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) of Indonesia.

CyberSecurity Malaysia has successfully promoted its agency as an expert in the field of cyber security. It also strengthened multilateral cooperation and good engagements with stakeholders in cyber security initiatives.

FIRST Technical Colloquium (TC) Bali, Indonesia
29 - 30 Sept 2016

On 29 and 30 September 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in FIRST Technical Colloquium (TC) held in Bali, Indonesia.

FIRST Tech Colloquia (TC) is a discussion forum for members to share information about FIRST operational issues of cyber security incident response.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Kilausuria Abdullah from MyCERT Department. She presented her study entitled "Commercial Fraud Trends Analysis and Best Practices - A Case Study".

CyberSecurity Malaysia was able to share information about cyber security incidents reported through Cyber999 and promote its services to all FIRST members and invited guests in this colloquium.

Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement on Pioneers Organization of ISO 22301 - Business Continuity Management System between CyberSecurity Malaysia and KUB Malaysia Berhad, Petaling Jaya, Selangor
30 September 2016

On 30 September 2016, Pioneers Organization of ISO 22301 - Business Continuity Management System held a signing ceremony between CyberSecurity Malaysia and KUB Malaysia Berhad.

The ceremony was held to officiate the project kick-off and certification of ISO 22301 - Business Continuity Management System for KUB Malaysia Berhad as the third pilot organization. It was officiated by Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia and YBhg. Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohd Zin, Chairman of KUB Malaysia.

The certification implementation project based on the ISO 22301 for Business Continuity Management System at KUB Malaysia shows the organization's commitment towards service management efficiency. In addition, it helps to increase the level of security in information infrastructure at KUB Malaysia.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement in this certification project is recognition on its capabilities, expertise and skills not only in the field of cyber security but also for services and business continuity.
