Meeting with INTERPOL & Launching of Microsoft Transparency & Cybersecurity Center, Singapore
4 – 5 October 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended an expert group meeting and digital forensics workshop in Singapore on 4 to 5 October 2016. This is a second meeting after its first meeting in Spain on June 2016.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Dr. Aswami Fadillah Mohd Ariffin, Senior Vice President of Cyber Security Responsive Services Division.

The program is under the initiative of INTERPOL to combat cybercrime, including support to the investigation of cybercrime and the development of new innovative technologies. This initiative also helps to exploit digital evidence, conduct training sessions and cyber combat capacity studies.

While in Singapore, Dr. Asmawi also fulfills the invitation from Microsoft Malaysia to attend the inauguration of Microsoft Transparency & Cybersecurity Centre for Asia-Pacific region.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in these two programs has strengthened the relationship and build network with various parties from all over the world. It is also a platform for cooperation with cyber security experts to ensure success of CyberDEF where information can be shared with the law enforcement agencies in Malaysia. It will also strengthen the position of CyberSecurity Malaysia as a reference center in the field of cyber security and digital forensics.

Workshop on ISO 22301 Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) Series 3, Putrajaya
4 – 5 October 2016

On 4 and 5 October 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with Malaysia Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) organized a Workshop on the Implementation of ISO 22301 Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) Series 3 at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya.

The two-day workshop was attended by 15 participants in purpose to get information about the services offered by MAMPU, confirmed the information obtained and to evaluate the services that have been identified.

The results of this workshop enlightened the participants on standards of ISO 22301 BCMS and identified BCMS implementation plan at MAMPU along with the target date for the main activities.

Critical Infrastructure Protection and Resilience Asia (CIPRA) 2016 Conference, Bangkok, Thailand
5 – 6 October 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the Conference on Critical Infrastructure Protection and Resilience Asia (CIPRA) 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand on 5 and 6 October 2016.

CIPRA 2016 is a conference of information security, which was attended by officials as well as government agencies and industry players among ASEAN member countries to cooperate in developing the legal framework and the existing technical, unite risk management, planning and strategic implementation in ensuring defense and security of key assets.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's delegation was headed by Dr. Zahri Yunos, Chief Operating Officer along with Megat Muazzam Abdul Muttalib, Head of the Malaysian Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) and Mohd Shamil Mohd Yusoff, Head of Outreach and Corporate Communications Department.

At the conference, Dr. Zahri presented "The National Strategy for the Protection of Critical National Information Insfrastructure in Malaysia", while, Megat Muazzam presented "Cybersecurity Threats and Trends".

Besides that, CyberSecurity Malaysia held discussion with the world's two main bodies regarding ICT education with UNESCO and online children protection with UNICEF.

Both sessions were held to exchange views and ideas as well as gaining the information to strengthen the development of cyber security module and also to enhance the development of contents, guidelines and procedures regarding to the online children protection.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation at the conference strengthened the position of CyberSecurity Malaysia as a leader in the field of cyber security in the Southeast Asian region, while a visit to the UNESCO and UNICEF strengthened bilateral relations and cooperation between CyberSecurity Malaysia with two major organizations of the world.

Common Criteria Evaluation Project Hewlett Packard Enterprise Arcsight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM), California, Amerika Syarikat
10 - 18 October 2016

On 10 to 18 October 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended Common Criteria Evaluation Project Hewlett-Packed Enterprise ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) 6.9.1C in California, United States.

The program organized by Hewlett Packard Enterprise was held to conduct the testing and evaluation on Malaysian Common Criteria (MyCC), which includes ATE phase (functional testing) and AVA (vulnerability assessment) as well as the process of reviewing the documentation and procedures for the purpose of obtaining MyCC certification.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Marinah Syazwani Mokhtar from Department of Information Security Certification Body (ISCB). Besides CyberSecurity Malaysia, BAE Systems and Hewlett-Packard were also involved in the evaluation process and testing.

Functional testing and vulnerability assessment is a compulsory activity in a process of testing and MyCC certification to examine the function and safety of the product reviewed.

The success of the process of evaluation and testing will allow CyberSecurity Malaysia to produce a certification of a product. In addition to improve the ability of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the certification process, it also adds the number of products certified by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

Workshop on the Implementation of ISO 22301 Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) Series 1, Bangi, Selangor
10 -12 October 2016

On 10 to 12 October 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) organized a Workshop on the Implementation of ISO 22301 Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) Series 1 at the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Bangi, Selangor.

The workshop was held to clarify on issues related to the scope of business continuity management in Nuclear Malaysia. In addition, this workshop also performs risk analysis to identify the policy continuity, roles and responsibilities in the implementation of business continuity management system in Nuclear Malaysia.

Singapore International Cyber Week and ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity, Singapore
10 – 12 October 2016

From 10 to 12 October 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity (AMCC) in Singapore in conjunction with Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW).

Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin, Chief Technology Officer represented CyberSecurity Malaysia and accompanied The Honorable Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia as a panelist at a discussion. The participation of Malaysian delegation at this conference was to fulfil the invitation from Minister of Information and Communication of Singapore, Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim.

The three (3) days conference was organized by the Singapore Government to identify issues related to cross-border of cyber security, share information and to identify areas of strategic cooperation in cybersecurity. In addition, it also increased regional cooperation among ASEAN member countries in order to strengthen the development of the field of cyber security in Southeast Asia.

Dr. Solahuddin was invited as a panelist at the "International Cyber Leaders Symposium" session to discuss the topic on "Building a Secure and Resilient Cyberspace" and presented "Moderated Discussion by Ministers on Areas of Cybersecurity Priority for ASEAN" in a session that discussed the topic on "Priorities and Directions for an ASEAN Cybersecurity Strategy ".

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation at this conference strengthened the position of CyberSecurity Malaysia as the lead agency in the field of cyber security in Malaysia and abroad.

7th APT Cybersecurity Forum 2016, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
11 – 13 October 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the 7th APT Cybersecurity Forum from 11 to 13 October 2016 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The 7th APT Cybersecurity Forum 2016 was an annual event by APT (Asia Pacific Telecommunication) and organized by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia, where it focuses on ICT familiarization with the theme "Emerging Trends: IoT, Big Data and Security".

This forum includes discussions on various current issues related to cyber security and privacy, identify and analyze some aspects related to 'Internet of Things' (IoT) safety and Big Data as well as discuss the rights and consumer awareness of various aspects, including laws and policies of a country in preserve the rights of consumers.

A total of 67 participants from 19 countries attended the Forum which was officiated by Tuan Yang Terutama Tram Iv Tek, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia. CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Mohamed Norhuzaimi from Government Engagement Department, where he was involved as a moderator for the session 6 titled "How to bridge over? : Legislation - Policy "

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement highlighted the role played by Malaysia in the field of cyber security towards the Asia Pacific.

Visit by Nigeria Defense Space Agency to CyberSecurity Malaysia, Seri Kembangan
17 October 2016

On 17 October 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia welcomed a visit from Defense Space Agency (DSA) of Nigeria. A delegation of five people was led by Brigadier General Johnson Bamidele Olawami.

A discussion session was chaired by Dr. Zahri Yunos, Chief Operating Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia. During the session, the two parties explored the opportunities for bilateral cooperation in terms of cyber security.

The delegation was also briefed on the functions and role of CyberSecurity Malaysia as well as services performed by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

APISC Security Training at Seoul, Korea
17 – 22 October 2016

The CyberSecurity Malaysia attended APISC Security Training in Seoul, South Korea. The representative from CyberSecurity Malaysia was Yati Mohamad Yassin from Government Engagement Department.

The annual course organized by the Korea Internet Security Agency (KISA) aims to gather IT security experts from various countries to share their experience on aspects of computer incident response and cyber security. It also covers aspects of the establishment and operation of the CSIRT and share experiences from the perspective of policy, legislation and technology.

A total of 25 participants from various countries such as South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia attended this program.

Besides the benefits obtained through participation in the course, CyberSecurity Malaysia also strengthened cooperation with the attended foreign cybersecurity agencies.

Official Opening Ceremony of Cyber Security Malaysia – Awards, Conference & Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2016, Kuala Lumpur
18 October 2016

On 18 October 2016, the opening ceremony of Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference & Exhbition (CSM-ACE) 2016 was held at the Royale Chulan Hotel Kuala Lumpur. It was officiated by The Honorable Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, and witnessed by General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed (Retired), Chairman of the Board of Directors of CyberSecurity Malaysia and Dato' Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

CSM-ACE is CyberSecurity Malaysia's annual event organized based on public-private partnerships including awards, conferences and cyber security exhibitions. CSM-ACE 2016 is organized for the sixth time with the theme "#cyberresilience"

The theme was chosen to support the strategic aspirations of the Malaysian government and the global community about the importance of cyber security in ensuring the continuity of operations of an organization whether in the public or private sector. It is a collective responsibility that must be addressed by all parties through strategic collaboration. It is also a catalyst for the growth of cyber security infrastructure that includes important elements such as People, Processes and Technology.

In 2016, CSM-ACE once again focused on the development of human capital through cyber security training programs, where over 10 training modules were introduced, including Certified Information Security Awareness Manager (CISAM), Cyber Security Risk Management for C-Suite, ISMS Implementation 2013 Edition, Digital Forensics, Security Posture Assessment, SCADA Security Assessment, Network Security and Incident Response.

CSM-ACE 2016 received more than 1650 participants that include the conference delegates, participants of the training programs, visitors to the exhibition, satellite programs and 41 exhibitors, where 10 of the exhibitors are local organizations (home grown) in the field of cyber security.

CSM-ACE 2016 was held over four days, from 17 until 20 October 2016. The organization of CSM-ACE 2016 has strengthened CyberSecurity Malaysia's position as the lead agency and cyber security specialist center in Malaysia.

Malaysia Cyber Security Awards 2016 & CSM-ACE 2016 Gala Dinner, Kuala Lumpur

The Malaysia Cyber Security Awards 2016 was held on 18 October 2016. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the Gala Dinner of Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference & Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2016 and officiated by The Honorable Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The Honorable Datuk Wira Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation and General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed (Retired), Chairman of the Board of Directors of CyberSecurity Malaysia and Dato' Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia also presented at the ceremony.

Malaysia Cyber Security Awards is recognition for individuals and organizations that have contributed to the development and growth of the cyber security industry in Malaysia based on the commitment, dedication, leadership and outstanding business strategy.

A total of 16 recipients were awarded from seven categories in cyber security including a new award which is for Lifetime Cyber Security Awards were awarded to YM Tengku Datuk Dr Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen Tengku Ibrahim on his contribution to the cyber security industry in Malaysia.

National ICT Security Discourse : CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy Grand Final (NICTSeD) 2016, Kuala Lumpur

National ICT Security Discourse CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy (NICTSeD) 2016 was held on 19 October 2016. The ceremony was officiated by The Honorable Dato' P.Kamalanathan A/L P. Panchanathan, Deputy Minister of Education 1 and The Honorable Datuk Dr. Wira Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

NICTSeD is the first school discourse competition held in Malaysia on cyber security. It is an annual event organized by CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with the Education Technology Division, endorsed by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and supported by DiGi Telecommunications and BAE Systems.

In the finals, Tunku Kurshiah School from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan was crowned as the champion of NICTSeD 2016 while first runner-up of NICTSeD 2016 was Sekolah Menengah Sultan Ismail from Johor Bahru, Johor.

NICTSeD is one of catalyst on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among students in secondary schools in Malaysia. It provides an opportunity for students to share ideas, gain knowledge and build networks among students for collaboration in the future. In addition, NICTSeD becomes a platform for the development of the workforce in the ICT sector, especially in the field of cyber security in Malaysia.

Working Group Meeting on ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE)
22 – 27 October 2016

The From 22 to 27 October 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the Working Group Meeting of ISO / IEC JTC 1 / SC 27 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Wan Nasra Wan Firuz from Information Security Certification Bodies (ISCB) represented CyberSecurity Malaysia at the meeting, where the Technical Committee and the Working Group of ISO / IEC JTC 1 / SC 27 were the technical committee responsible for the latest development and maintenance of standards ISO / IEC JTC at international level.

This meeting ensure Malaysia's interest is protected during the drafting and finalizing the safety standards developed at the international level and to state Malaysia's opinion on the development and implementation of future information security standards with regard to public and private sectors. In addition, it also seeks to obtain preliminary information related to information security through discussion with experts around the world.

The meeting was attended by experts of Information Technology Security Techniques from 70 countries including Japan, United Kingdom, United States, China, Korea and Germany.

Besides CyberSecurity Malaysia, Malaysian delegation also included by MIMOS, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Malaysia Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) and Personal Data Protection Department.

Cloud Mitigation Alliance (CMA) Forum and Cloud Security Alliance GCR Summit 2016, Beijing, China
24 – 25 October 2016

From 24 to 25 October 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended Cloud Mitigation Alliance (CMA) Forum and Cloud Security Alliance GCR Summit 2016 organized by Cloud Mitigation Alliance in collaboration with Huawei Technologies in Beijing, China.

Cloud Mitigation Alliance (CMA) forum combined technical discussion panel and current experts for the Cloud Security Alliance GCR Summit. CMA consists of voluntary industry entities (non-profit organization) established by Huawei Technologies to conduct Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on the cloud platform.

CMA forum aims to introduce CMA towards the potential individuals to be a member of the CMA. Among the activities include coordinating CMA members to conduct academic research, formulation of standards and technical cooperation as well as business in the field of cloud DDoS mitigation technology.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Maslina binti Daud, Senior Vice President of Cyber Security Proactive Services Division.

This program provides an opportunity for communication company and security service providers from around the world to held a discussion on the pandemic problem of DDoS attacks as well as the establishment of an entity to facilitate the cooperation of people around the world about the threat intelligence sharing, action and effective measures as well as best security practices.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement in this program coincides with the goals as the lead agency for cyber security in Malaysia. Knowledge and experience gained can be applied and implemented in CyberSecurity Malaysia.

Smart Cities Conference, Korea Selatan
24 – 26 October 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia continues to receive recognition as a cyber security specialist agency in the region when Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin, Chief Technology Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia were invited to attend the Smart Cities Conference on 24 to 26 October 2016, in South Korea.

Organized by Marcus Evans, this conference aims to share the latest ideas from IT experts regarding on Internet of Thing (IoT) in the field of information technology and as an opportunity to enhance business networks.

Dr. Solahuddin presented "Delving in Cyber-Resilient Framework in Smart Governance- Malaysian Perspective".

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference provides an opportunity to strengthen the position of CyberSecurity Malaysia as a leading agency in the field of cyber security in Malaysia and abroad.

Conference and Annual General Meeting of Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT), Tokyo, Japan
24 – 28 October 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia continues its proactive approach as Deputy Chairman of the Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) by attending the Conference and Annual General Meeting of Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) held on 24 to 28 October 2016 in Tokyo, Japan.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's delegation was led by YABhg. General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed (Retired), Chairman of the Board of Directors of CyberSecurity Malaysia and accompanied by Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, Dato' Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab and several other senior officials.

Several presentations were delivered by the delegation, Noraini Abdul Rahman from Department of International Engagement presented "Protecting CNII Against Malware Threat: A Coherent Response through Cooperation Amongst OIC Countries", Farah Ramlee from Malaysian Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) presented " Challenges in Responding to Ransomware and Lessons Learnt Malaysia" and the presentation of technical papers "Honeynet / Lebahnet" on Malware Mitigation Working Group session by Megat Muazzam Abdul Muttalib and Fathi Kamil Mohad Zainuddin.

Malaysia's active role, through CyberSecurity Malaysia in implementing cyber security agenda at the international level and APCERT continue to receive recognition and gain confidence among the members of APCERT to reappoint CyberSecurity Malaysia as Deputy Chairman for the second time in a period of one year.

14th APCERT Annual Conference themed "Borderless Cooperation, Seamless Action" was an opportunity for CyberSecurity Malaysia to promote the services offered such Cyber999 and strengthen its position as cyber security specialist center in the Asia Pacific region.

Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) Innovation Day 2016, Melaka
27 – 28 October 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia took part in the seminar and exhibition in conjunction with Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) Innovation Day which held in Melaka from 27 to 28 October 2016.

It was held to raise awareness and understanding among the police and community on innovation and technology as a mechanism in order to prevent crime. RMP Innovation Day involved contingents from different ranks in Malaysia. A total of 600 participants joined the two day program.

It was officiated by The Honorable Datuk Wira Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation on 27 October 2016 and witnessed by YDH. DCP. Datuk Ramli Haji Din, Melaka Police Chief.

Besides participating in the exhibition, Dr. Zahri Yunos, Chief Operating Officer from CyberSecurity Malaysia also presented "Innovation and Technology Helps In Crime Prevention". In addition, Dr. Zahri also became a panelist at the forum entitled "Menyemarak Inovasi Merealisasi Transformasi Melalui Pengetahuan dan Kreativiti Dalam Membantu Pencegahan Jenayah".

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this program has been able to promote the agency as cyber security specialist center, in addition to strengthen the multilateral cooperation with stakeholders in cyber security initiatives.

Workshop on the Implementation of the Strategic Approach 5 (PS5): Capacity Development of Local Industrial Cryptography, National Cryptography Policy, Putrajaya
28 October 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia organized a Workshop on the Implementation of the Strategic Approach 5 (PS5): Capacity Development of Local Industrial Cryptography, National Cryptography Policy which took place on 28 October 2016 in Putrajaya.

The aim of the program was to present the progress of the analysis and results of the 'As-Is state in Malaysia from the perspective of industrial development and human capital, conduct presentations benchmark for industrial development and human capital in the field of cryptography and acquire knowledge to Industry Capabilities Plans and Human Capital Plans.

More than 30 participants from various agencies including National Security Council, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, MIMOS Bhd, MDEC, Cryptology Research Association of Malaysia, PIKOM, Malaysia Sciences Academy, Ministry of Higher Education and University of Technical Malaysia Melaka including TecForte, Pioneer Deloitte, Localhost .my, encr8tor, Wannastation, Biocryptodisk, TFP Solutions Sdn Bhd, BIT, MyCrypto and Vault Tech attended the workshop.

In this workshop participants were required to identify a list of Critical Success Factor for industrial development plans and human capital, identifying Targeted Key Outcome and Action Plan as well as to make improvements in the implementation plan.

ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on S&T, Cambodia
28 – 30 October 2016

On 28 and 29 October 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to join the Malaysian delegation led by YB Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation to ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science and Technology (IAMMST-9) in Cambodia.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Sheikh Zuliskandar Zulkarnain from Product Development and Marketing Department.

Besides Malaysia, a few of ASEAN countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and Laos also participated in this meeting to share information and experience on science and technology.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to join the Malaysian delegation based on its expertise, capabilities and experience in the field of cyber security.

CyberSecurity Malaysia promoted its services which is Cyber Range Lab Malaysia. Through Cyber Range, awareness of information security and effective management methodology will be customized based on public workers in ASEAN countries.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this program increased its visibility, as well as commitment to cooperate with the government agencies and prove the leadership in aspects of cyber security towards regional countries.

China-ASEAN Cyberspace Security Summit Forum 2016, Nanning, China

On 30 October to 1 November 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the China-ASEAN Summit Cyberspace Security Forum 2016 in Nanning, China.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Sharifah Roziah Mohd Kassim from Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) on the invitation from Internet Society of China.

China-ASEAN Forum is an annual program held by the Chinese Government to strengthen cooperative relations between China and ASEAN member countries. At the forum, for the first time, Cyberspace Security Summit Forum focused on cyber security.

The forum lasted for three days was attended by 100 participants from various countries.

At the forum, Sharifah Roziah presented several case studies on the threat of Cyber Extortion. In addition, a series of discussions on the issue of cyber security in the region were held.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation opened up opportunities to increase and strengthen its image and reputation as a driver of cyber security agencies in Malaysia and the Asian region.
