CyberSecurity Malaysia 'Shopping Raya' Program Ipoh, Perak
10 June 2017

On June 10, 2017, CyberSecurity Malaysia organized its annual program 'Shopping Raya'. This program fulfills CyberSecurity Malaysia's corporate social responsibility (CSR).

45 orphans from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Dan Warga Miskin Parit, Perak, or as Bait Al-Amin were taken for Aidil Fitri shopping.

'Shopping Raya' was supported by Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Seri Iskandar, Perak. 20 UTP students participated as mentors to Bait Al-Amin orphans representing CyberSAFE Mentor program, which is CyberSecurity Malaysia's initiative through CyberSAFE in Schools Program that aims to cultivate and promote positive use of the Internet among schoolchildren across Malaysia.

FIRST and NATCSIRT 2017, San Juan, Puerto Rico
11 - 17 June 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended 29th FIRST Annual Conference on Computer Security Incident Handling and 12th Annual Technical Meeting for CSIRTs with National Responsibility in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 11 to 17 June 2017.

704 participants from 68 countries around the world attended FIRST annual conference organized by FIRST.org. It is a platform for participants, CERT/CSIRT and Internet security organizations to discuss cyber threats issues and ways to overcome them. The theme for this conference was "Fighting Pirates and Privateers".

Meanwhile, NatCSIRT was held by special invitation to the representative of the computer emergency response team or better known as CERT. It was held to discuss issues that CERT encountered, new tools and software and to exchange information to address cyber threats internationally.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Dr. Aswami Fadhillah Mohd Ariffin, Senior Vice President, Cyber Security Reaction Service and Megat Muazzam Abdul Mutalib, Head of Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT).

At FIRST's annual conference, Dr. Aswami delivered a presentation entitled "Collaborative Information Sharing Model for Malware Threat Analysis" while Megat Muazzam presented on "Practical Workflow for Automation and Orchestration of Addressing Cyber Threat: Case Study of Mirai Botnet in Malaysia" and became a panel for threat attack issue entitled "Panel Topic: Mirai - How Did We Do?". Megat Muazzam also delivered a presentation titled "Malaysia Approach in Capacity Building at National and Regional Level" at NatCSIRT.

CyberSecurity Malaysia also represented the Secretariat of the Computer Emergency Response Team - the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC-CERT) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the FIRST team. At FIRST's annual meeting, the secretariat agreed to elect Kuala Lumpur as the host for the holding of the FIRST annual conference in 2018.

CyberSecurity Malaysia further strengthened its position as a global cyber security agency. It also developed bilateral cooperation and good rapport with stakeholders in cyber security field.

World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2017 Conference and Meeting, Geneva, Switzerland
12 - 16 June 2017

On 12 to 16 June 2017, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2017 Conference in Geneva, Switzerland organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

CyberSecurity Malaysia won WSIS Prize 2017 Champion for International Cooperation category. The winning project paper entitled "Collaborative Information Sharing Model for Malware Threat Analysis: A Case Study for the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation - Computer Emergency Response Team".

WSIS received 345 papers from various organizations around the world. ITU Secretary-General, Mr. Houlin Zhao preented the award. CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Mohd Shamir Hashim, Senior Vice President, International Relations and Government Division and Ahmad Nasir Udin Mohd Zin, Specialist, International Relations Department.

In addition, CyberSecurity Malaysia became moderator at a seminar entitled "Responding to Cyber Threats: Establishing an effective Computer Incident Response Team". Meanwhile, Mohd Shamir also delivered a presentation entitled "Collaborative Information Sharing Model for Malware Threat Analysis: A Case Study For The Organization of the Islamic Cooperation - Computer Emergency Response Team" at the World Café session.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation increased its visibility in the international arena, especially in cyber security. In addition to promoting the Malware Threat Analysis project, it also enhances global collaboration, exchange knowledge and foster global collaboration and strengthens multilateral cooperation and implement joint projects in cyber security.

National ICT Security Discourse - CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy (NICTSeD) 2017 Selection Workshop, Putrajaya
19 – 20 June 2017

On June 19 and 20, 2017 the National ICT Security Discourse - CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy (NICTSeD) 2017 Selection Workshop was organized in Putrajaya. The workshop was held to select schools that submitted applications to participate in NICTSeD 2017.

A total of 84 entries were received from secondary schools throughout Malaysia. Entries sent via online from April 17 to June 16, 2017. To participate, secondary schools should send executive summary, slide presentation and 2 minutes video recording on the topic, "Be The Change: How To Unite For A Better Internet Experience ".

The selection process involved officials from the Ministry of Education, Education Technology Division (BTP), DiGi Telecomunication, BAE Systems and CyberSecurity Malaysia.

16 schools were selected representing states and zones to compete in the qualifying round and then to the quarter-finals and the semi-finals to be held in Alor Setar, Kedah.

NICTSeD is the first school discourse competition held in Malaysia on cyber security. Organized by CyberSecurity Malaysia with the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the collaboration of the Education Technology Division (BTP), the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM), NICTSeD is a mechanism to spread information and knowledge on ICT security among students and teachers to become a prudent Internet users.

16th European Conference On Cyber Warfare And Security (ECCWS) 2017, Dublin, Ireland
28 – 30 June 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia joined 16th European Conference On Cyber Warfare And Security (ECCWS) 2017 in Dublin, Ireland from June 28 to 30, 2017.

The conference organized by Academic Conferences and Publishing International Limited was a technical research conference that discussed current cyber security issues and conference proceedings listed in the Thomson Reuters ISI Web of Science (WOS) Citation Index and Elsevier SCOPUS, which a high index.

The conference attracted 120 participants, including academic scholars, army and cyber security players from over 30 countries. CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Dr. Zahri Yunos, Chief Operating Officer. He delivered a presentation titled 'Understanding Cyber Terrorism from Motivational Perspective: A Qualitative Data Analysis'.

The paperwork contributed to the KPI of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and Corporate KPI CyberSecurity Malaysia under KPI: Publications in the issuance of STI. In 2017, 14 cyber security papers were targeted to be published in local and international journals.

This invitation to CyberSecurity Malaysia was an opportunity to promote its function as a specialist in cyber security in the international arena. This was also a platform to identify areas of research that can be featured internationally.

Presentation and Information Sharing at the University of Guangxi, China
28 – 30 June 2017

On June 28 to 30, 2017, CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited by the University of Guangxi, China to present and share information on cyber threats and ways to overcome threats in Malaysia. This program was one of One Belt One Road's initiatives to create a strong understanding and relationship with ASEAN countries including Malaysia.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Sharifah Roziah Mohd Kassim, Malaysian Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT). She delivered a presentation entitled 'Cyber Threats Trends in Malaysia'. CyberSecurity Malaysia also visited G20 Summit 2016 Exhibition and the Alibaba.com headquarters and held discussions with Mr. Oliver Liew, from University of Guangxi.

CyberSecurity Malaysia further built its reputation in the international arena by promoting its expertise and experience in addressing various cyber threats effectively including Ransomware.
