Workshop on Countermeasures Against Cybercrime, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Kyoto, Japan
17 January – 6 February 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the Countermeasures Against Cybercrime Workshop organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency of Japan (JICA) in Kyoto, Japan.

The workshop was held to expose participants on the strategies, techniques and cyber crime investigation. It was also a platform to share information and experiences on cybercrime preventive measures by the participants involved in the legal, technical and international collaboration.

A total of 14 countries were invited to attend the workshop and eventually became an opportunity for cooperation among these agencies. CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Mohd Rizal Abu Bakar from the Department of Cyber Action & Intelligence Team.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this workshop strengthened cooperation with various international agencies in the field of global cyber security.

Strategic Working Visit to Universities in Australia
31 January - 5 February 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with UNITEN organized a strategic working visit to several universities in Australia, including Queensland University of Technology - Brisbane, Curtin University - Perth and Edith Cowan University (ECU).

The purpose of this visit was to gain knowledge and obtain information from the University on the SCADA System Security and Safety Testing Laboratory Project Simulation SCADA (DSTIN) in order to establish SCADA Security Laboratory simulation experiments.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin, Chief Technology Officer and three officers from the Security Assurance Department, namely Hafizah Che Hasan, Mohd Kamal Mohamad Fadzlan and Zahrotul Munawwroh Muis.

The delegation also made a courtesy visit to CERT Australia office to discuss and exchange views on the field of cyber security, highlighting cyber attacks.


 


From the visit, delegates were able to improve their knowledge in preparation of the establishment of SCADA Laboratory Simulation Security Experiments. In addition, it also strengthened the networking collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia, UNITEN, CERT Australia and the Universities.

Memorandum of Agreement Signing Ceremony between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and CyberSecurity Malaysia
11 February 2016

On February 11, 2016, there was a Memorandum of Agreement signing ceremony between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and CyberSecurity Malaysia.

The purpose of this memorandum is to implement projects under DSTIN Flagship Integrated Cyber ​​Evidence or ICE, in which the two organizations collaborate in the field of Digital Forensics investigations that include Data Warehousing, Data Analytics and Big Data Visualization.

Through this collaboration, CyberSecurity Malaysia’s capacity to undergo advance forensic analysis in large-scale data can be achieved. In addition, CyberSecurity Malaysia and UTM intends to share their expertise in the field of research. The results will be a platform to resolve cases involving digital evidence.

This memorandum was presented by Hon. Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid bin Omar, Vice Chancellor, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

Strategic Collaboration Between Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and CyberSecurity Malaysia
11 February 2016

On February 11, 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia welcomed a visit from delegation of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), led by Mr Zulkarnain Mohd Yasin, Chief Network Security Sector, Enforcement and Advocacy, MCMC.

The visit was held to discuss and review the progress of activities of the Joint Working Committee, which was established by the organizations based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on 9 November 2015.

Chief Operating Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, Dr. Zahri Yunos with several senior officials of CyberSecurity Malaysia welcomed MCMC delegation of 13 people.

A meeting was held to discuss the development of several areas. Each field is led by a Special Working Committee and represented by officials from both organizations.

This strategic collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia and MCMC is a proactive measure to prioritize cyber security in creating a safe and conducive cyber environment for the development of the country.

National Aspiration & Leadership Summit (NALS) 2016, Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur
14 February 2016

On February 14, 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia took part in the National Aspiration and Leadership Summit (NALS) 2016 organized by the Overseas UMNO Club (KULN).

This one-day program was held to share the vision and aspirations of the Malaysian leaders with students in higher education institutions within and outside the country. In addition, it also allows students to keep abreast with the current developments in the country, foster self-esteem, dignity and morale of the country. This program provides a platform to foster closer relationships among the student leaders from within and outside the country.

NALS was officiated by Hon. Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and attended by 1,000 participants.

In this program, CyberSecurity Malaysia was given the opportunity to promote and introduce cyber security services to participants who visited NALS booth.

Training on the Implementation of Information Security Management System (ISMS) ISO/IEC 27001:2013, Seri Kembangan.
15 – 17 February 2016

On February 15 to 17, 2016, there was a training program on the implementation of Information Security Management System (ISMS) ISO / IEC 27001: 2013.

The purpose of this training is to provide exposure to the officers of Information Management Division, Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) as a preparation for them to undergo audit exercise on Information Security Management System (ISMS) ISO / IEC 27001: 2013.

This training program was also to ensure the implementation of information security management system effectively and secure information security, as well as to build confidence and trust of customers.

Closing Ceremony Safer Internet Day 2016, Petaling Jaya, Selangor
22 February 2016

Annually, February is for SID celebration also known as Safer Internet Day. In Malaysia, SID was first initiated in 2010 and is led by CyberSecurity Malaysia. This year, SID was globally celebrated on February 9, 2016 with the theme 'Play Your Part For A Better Internet'.

Based on the theme, internet users were urged to become more ethical and responsible in their role as Internet users. They should act as a leader of the Internet (Internet Leader) to create a safer and conducive cyber environment based on the three elements, Thinkers (The Thinker), Inspiration (Inspirer) and Proactive (Proactive).

SID 2016 closing ceremony was held at the Sri Pentas on 22 February 2016 which was officiated by YB. Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

On that day, the Minister appeared over a live telecast interview on 'Malaysia Hari Ini’ (MHI) program on TV3. The closing ceremony also was aired via MHI and received overwhelming response from over 150 million viewers across Malaysia.

The use of media as a medium for conveying messages through SID 2016 response, has managed to give wide publicity to CyberSecurity Malaysia. It also enhanced CyberSecurity Malaysia's reputation in Malaysia.

Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team – (APCERT) Task Force Meeting, Auckland, New Zealand
22 – 23 February 2016

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the meeting of the Steering Committee of the Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) held in Auckland, New Zealand on 22 and 23 February 2016. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Annual Conference of APNIC (APRICOT 2016).

A total of 15 participants representing seven countries APCERT Steering Committee attended the meeting. CyberSecurity Malaysia is a member of the Program Committee for the 2016 Annual Conference APCERT that will be held in Tokyo on 24 to 27 October 2016.

CyberSecurity Malaysia’s capability and leadership in cyber security field were recognized in the Asia Pacific region with the appointment of CyberSecurity Malaysia as Deputy Chairman of this international cooperation platform.

Its active involvement in sharing of information in malware analysis is the reason CyberSecurity Malaysia was appointed as the leader of the working group Cyber ​​Threats Mitigation, a new initiative in creating safe and healthy cyber environment. Through this working group, CyberSecurity Malaysia has direct access to experts at the global level and has the opportunity to exchange information and cooperate to conduct analysis in related fields.

Workshop on Google-Fu Power Search Technique, Putrajaya
22 - 23 February 2016

On February 22 and 23, 2016, a workshop on Google-Fu Power Search Technique was held in Putrajaya. The workshop was organized to the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) to introduce the technique of utilizing Google search engine to obtain information accurately and quickly based on time, location, web site through the use of the Advanced Operator, Advanced Search and Search Tool.

Participants were taught about the techniques for information searching through relevant words search and technical skills to use Google.

A total of 39 participants comprising of officials from the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) attended the workshop. The workshop was an opportunity for CyberSecurity Malaysia to introduce its function, role and expertise and strengthen its position as the lead agency in the field of cyber security.

MOSTI Social Innovation Program: Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 Edisi Johor, Johor Bahru, Johor
23 – 24 February 2016

Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 continues the expedition to Johor. The two-day program implemented under the MOSTI Social Innovation Program or MSI was held at Menara M.S.C Cyberport Johor Bahru in collaboration with the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and MSC CyberPort.

Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 was created to promote Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) which is a network development program for MyCSC Outlet. The introduction of this program as a 'touch point' to the people in addressing problems related to Digital Forensics and also as a catalyst for entrepreneurship.

In addition, ​​Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 also provides specialized services such as data recovery services (Data Recovery), Sanitation Data (Data Sanitization) and Digital Forensics to local communities. During Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 Johor, over 10 storage media (computers, hard drives, thumb drives and smart phones) were successfully restored.

Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0 is a platform to promote services and CyberSecurity Malaysia MOSTI's role in ensuring national cybersecurity.

Workshop on Enhancing Port Security Against Terrorism, Bintulu, Sarawak
23 – 25 February 2016

On February 23 to 25, 2016, a workshop on Enhancing Port Security Against Terrorism was held in Bintulu, Sarawak. The workshop organized by the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter Terrorism (SEARCCT) was held to enhance knowledge and understanding and create awareness among the participants about the threat of terrorism related issues of port security as well as security measures to detect and prevent terrorist attacks that occurred on port facilities in the country.

Lt. Col. Sazali Sukardi (Retired), Vice President Research CyberSecurity Malaysia presented a paperwork entitled “Cyber ​​Terrorism”.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in the workshop was a great honor and recognition by SEARCCT. In addition, it showcased the commitment of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the field of cyber security in order to increase awareness and knowledge of the participants on the ongoing cyber threats.
