Second Security Assessment ICT Product Workshop, Putrajaya
1-2 February 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia has organised its Second ICT Product Security Assessment Workshop in Putrajaya on 1-2 February 2017.

 

As a service provider of ICT Product Security Assessment (IPSA) and Independent Verifics, CyberSecurity Malaysia organised the workshop to discuss preparation for the implementation of the service. Through the workshop, information are obtained from consultant to create developer and tester to implement product testing apart from designing and streamlining checklist which includes test service encompassing smart phone technology, network and website.

 

This workshop also identified the test scope for firmware, hadware and software that will be used for new test scheme and to identify checklist that will help expedite testing and assessment process.

 

As a result of the workshop, a guideline has been developed to recommend test service that can fulfil the needs of agencies and customers.

Safer Internet Day 2017 : Malaysia Chapter Celebration Launching Ceremony in Kuala Lumpur
7 February 2017

Safer Internet Day: Malaysian Chapter celebration was launched by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation YB Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau at Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur on 7 February 2017. Also present at the event were Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister YB Datuk Wira Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah;  Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Deputy Secretary General (Planning and Commercialisation) Encik Kua Abun; CyberSecurity Malaysia, Chairman of Board of Directors General Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed (Retired);  CyberSecurity Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, with more than 250 guests comprising Heads of Agencies and Departments under MOSTI, strategic partners, RTM staff and students from schools in the vicinity areas in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.

 

Safer Internet Day is celebrated by more than 100 countries worldwide to promote, inculcate and increase awareness amongst the public about ethical and positive usage of internet. In Malaysia, CyberSecurity Malaysia has been taking the initiative to lead ‘Safer Internet Day’ celebration since 2010.

 

The theme for 2017 is “Be The Change: Unite For A Better Internet”. In conjunction with 2017 Safer Internet Day celebration, CyberSecurity Malaysia has introduced ‘#myviralvow’ campaign. The objective of this campaign is to create awareness amongst internet users about the need to be ethical and responsible when sharing information, visuals or news on the internet or online viral.

 

During the launch, YB Minister also appeared live on ‘Selamat Pagi Malaysia’ on TV1 and on ‘Perspektif’ program on Nasional FM.

 

Through the celebration and campaign it is hoped that internet users will become wiser netizens in terms of assessing the validity and authenticity of any information, visuals and news received before spreading them through social media.

Global Mobile Computing Conference 2017, Chennai, India
9 - 10 February 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated in the Global Mobile Computing Conference 2017 in Chennai, India on 9 and 10 February 2017. Organised by SSM College of Engineering, India the conference was part of initiatives to develop and promote learning facilities through mobile phone, applications and devices as well as to focus on new methods and benefits of digital learning to the public.

 

The conference was attended by IT specialists, telecommunication operators, researchers and device manufacturers in mobile and broadband technology and development to share new ideas in the context of mobile learning.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by its Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Dr. Solahuddin Shamsuddin who was one of the panellist during a discussion session titled “Adaptive Cyber Security - Addressing Security Challenges of Hyper Connected World”.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia’s involvement in the conference provides opportunity for it to strengthen its position as a lead agency in cyber security in Malaysia and also abroad.

CSM-HPCCC Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) Collaboration Workshop, Bangi, Selangor
9 – 10 February 2017

On 9 and 10 February 2017, CyberSecurity Malaysia held a workshop in collaboration with HPCCC Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Bangi, Selangor.

 

The workshop was aimed at sharing knowledge and experience as well as discussing and identifying scope and field of cloud technology that could enable CyberSecurity Malaysia and UTP to collaborate in developing cloud technology.  

 

Through the workshop, participants were exposed to the latest cloud technology as part of the initiative to provide services related to cloud technology applications for relevant organisations and also the country.

Launch and Handing Over Ceremony of MyCyber Komuniti@Sabah Centre, Interactive Exhibition and CyberSAFE Program, Tamparuli Point, Sabah
10 – 11 February 2017

On 10 and 11 February 2017, a  CyberSAFE program, which included Cyberparenting workshop, CyberQuest program and an interactive exhibition, was held in conjunction with the launch and handing over ceremony of  MyCyber Komuniti@Sabah Centre in Tamparuli, Sabah.

 

The Cyberparenting workshop, which was held on 10 February 2017, was attended by 30 participants made up of parents in the vicinity area of Tamparuli. The workshop included talks and ‘hands-on’ activities were handled by CyberSecurity Malaysia Outreach & Capacity Building Division Senior Vice President, Lt. Col. Mustaffa Ahmad (Retired), and Outreach Corporate Communications Department Senior Executive,Jazannul Azriq Aripin, with CyberSAFE program strategic partner or Peopelogy.

 

CyberSAFE Quest program was also held involving 50 students from four schools in in the vicinity area of Tamparuli.

 

On 11 February 2017, an interactive exhibition was jointly organied with the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the Chemistry Department and Koperasi Tokou Sabah Berhad in the compound of MyCyber Komuniti@Sabah Centre.

 

The launch and handing over ceremony of MyCyber Komuniti@Sabah Centre was officiated by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation YB Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau. Also present at the event were Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister YB Datuk Wira Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah;  Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Secretary General YBhg Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar Hj Yahaya, CyberSecurity Malaysia, Chairman of Board of Directors General Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed (Retired);  CyberSecurity Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab and Koperasi Tokou Sabah Berhad Chairman Felix Joseph Saang.

 

MyCyber Komuniti@Sabah Centre has been developed by CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with Koperasi Tokou Sabah Berhad. It is a one stop centre for knowledge and information sharing about positive usage of computer and internet as well as to narrow the digital gap amongst the local community. The centre was built under the MOSTI’s Social Innovation Program (MSI).

 

Apart from increasing the quality of living of the local community through the use of  the Information Technology and Communication (ICT) services, the centre will also be used by agencies and departments from various ministries for ICT and cyber security related programs and activities involving the people in Tamparuli.

 

MyCyber Komuniti@Sabah Centre is equipped with ICT facilities, including computer devices, internet access, digital printing and scanner machines. The ICT infrastructure at this centre will enable the local community to perform online activities such as online banking and online transactions such as online purchase, bill and utility payments.

Briefing and Demonstration of ‘Automatic Speaker Identification System’ (ASIS) Biometric System, Seri Kembangan
13 February 2017

On 13 February 2017, a briefing and demonstration session on ‘Automatic Speaker Identification System’ (ASIS) Biometric System was held at Cyber Forensics X Lab, CyberSecurity Malaysia. The briefing and demonstration was conducted by Miliserv Technologies from Spain.

 

It was held to provide exposure on automatic biometrics voice recognition and identification system that is using centralised database that it is accessible from existing network. This system usage is suitable for CyberSecurity Malaysia in upgrading its digital forensics service in Malaysia.

 

Through this program, CyberSecurity Malaysia could strengthen its relations with Miliserv Technologies and Nuance (Spain) to create a partnership in Biometric System specialising in voice recognition.

CPF Course - Briefing First Responder for Pharmacy Enforcement Officials, Kedah
14 – 16 February 2017

From 14 to 16 February, 2017, a briefing and training on First Responder has been conducted for pharmacy enforcement officials at Pharmacy Enforcement Branch, Kedah. The training was jointly conducted by CyberSecurity Malaysia and Pharmacy Service Division under the Health Ministry. CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Nur Aishah binti Mohamad dan Muhammad Zahid bin Ismail from Digital Forensics Department. 

 

The training was aimed at providing knowledge and exposure about profiling methods of cases involving unregistered drugs and SOP for confiscation of digital evidence. The three-day training saw participation of 25 officials from Pharmacy Enforcement Branch, Kedah.

 

As a result of the training, all participants have equipped themselves with the knowledge and exposure of how to do profiling and confiscation of digital evidence. Apart from that, they are also now more confident to handle digital evidence from the simulation exercise that have been carried out.

Digital Citizenship Dialogue 2017, Putrajaya
16 February 2017

On 16 February 2017, CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated in Digital Citizenship Dialogue 2017 organised by Netflix (Singapura) in Putrajaya. The one-day program was held in conjunction with the Safer Internet Day 2017 celebration.

 

Themed “Unite for a Better Internet: Empowering parents to guide connected kids”, the dialogue was held to increase  understanding on best practices in digital policy, research and parental support.

 

The dialogue session was chaired by Mr.K. Juslly Elis fom the Malaysian Commission of Multimedia and Communication (SKMM) while the panellist are Stephen Balkam from Family Online Safety Institute, U.S., Laurent Duvillier from UNICEF Malaysia and Dr. Moniza Waheed from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Lt. Col. Mustaffa Bin Ahmad (Retired), Senior Vice President of Outreach & Capacity Building Division. More than 100 prticipants were present at the dialogue session.


CyberSecurity Malaysia’s involvement in the dialogue session reflects its role as the lead agency in cyber security in Malaysia and also helps enhance cooperation with   various agencies involved in making the workshop a success.

Briefing Session About E-Lelong System Malaysian High Court, Putrajaya
16 February 2017

On 16 February 2017, a briefing session about E-Lelong System was held in Putrajaya. CyberSecurity Malaysia officials involved are Mohd Zabri Adil bin Talib dan Abdul Wafi bin Abdul Rahman from Digital Forensics Department. The briefing was held for CyberSecurity Malaysia to share five main elements for E-Lelong System, namely “Forensics Readiness”; “stress test” on system; data log storage system capability for every auction process; malware mitigation system capability; and timestamp on bidding time implemented.

 

Following the briefing, all elements listed by CyberSecurity Malaysia through digital forensics service has been well accepted by the Malaysian High Court.

 

The briefing showed the High Court’s confidence   on CyberSecurity Malaysia’s expertise and capability in providing services related to digital forensics. It also helped strengthen ties between CyberSecurity Malaysia and the Malaysian High Court in terms of cyber security preparedness.

Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) Second Steering Committee Meeting, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated in Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) Steering Committee Meeting in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam on  25 February 2017.

 

The meeting was organised by APCERT/Japan Computer Emergency Response Team/Coordination Center (JPCERT/CC) Steering Committee. During the meeting, CyberSecurity Malaysia, which is a member and Deputy Chairman  of the committee, highighted Malaysia’s significant role and contribution to Asia Pacific member countries with regard to cyber security. The meeting also served as a platform for member states to discuss strategic director and challenged faced in enhancing cooperation in cyber security amongst member nations.

 

APCERT Steering Committee Meeting was held for the second time in 2017. It is the first meeting  dan merupakan mesyuarat kali pertama yang dijalankan secara bersemuka. Ia dihadiri oleh 10 ahli dari enam buah negara.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia participation in the meeting helps increase Malaysia capability in battling cyber threats through  sharing  of information, expertise, research findings and best practices as well as strengthening collaboration with Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) member countries.

CEO’s TALK - "The Reality of Cyber Threats Today", UTeM, Melaka
27 February 2017

On 27 Februari 2017, CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated in CEO’s TALK - "The Reality of Cyber Threats Today" organised by Center for Teaching and Learning, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) at Seminar Hall, Communications and Information Technology, UteM, Melaka.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Zahri Yunos, attended the program and shared information on the latest cyber security infrastructure in Malaysia. This program was held to create awareness amongst participants about current cyber threats. The program was attended by 150 participants comprising UTeM lecturers and students.

 

The program gave CyberSecurity Malaysia the opportunity to introduce its services and promote itsef as an expert agency in the field of  cyber security besides boosting ties and cooperation with UteM.

Test Framework Workshop, Putrajaya
27 – 28 February 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia has organised a Test Framework workshop on 27 and 28 Februari 2017 in Putrjaya.

 

The workshop was held to design and streamline testing framework which comprised of  test service offered  by CyberSecurity Malaysia, identify test scope  for firmware, hardware and software, identfy suitable standard  for testing framework such  as ISO9126, COBIT and identify  relevant needs to be incorporated into  testing framework such as test flow, test impact, test audience and so on.

 

The workshop involved various departments within CyberSecurity Malaysia, where as a result of the workshop a guideline for clients and departments has been formulated to ensure better quality cyber security test and fulfil the demands and needs of clients.

Data Collection 2 Techno Fund, Kuala Lumpur
27 February 2017 – 17 Mac 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia has carried out a data collection activity at UniKL MIIT, Kuala Lumpur from 27 February 2017 to 17 March 2017.

 

The activity was aimed at collecting 2D and 3D facial images of students and staff of UniKL MIIT to fulfil TechnoFund project achievement entitled “GPU Enhanced Robust Multi-Dimensional Facial Identification System for CCTV Evidence in Video Forensics Analysis”. It has been implemented under the supervision and funding of the Ministry Of Science Technology And Innovation (MOSTI) Techno fund.

 

This activity involves facial image registration process in 2D3D Forensics Face Recognition studio that is fabricated by CyberSecurity Malaysia through digital forensics service. It also involves data acquisition using CCTV camera as test data to process recognition and comparison.

 

The data collected will be used to test the performance of data analysis using facial biometrics software that is developed through this project.

 

This activity is the first collaborative project between CyberSecurity Malaysia and UniKL MIIT.
