Digital Citizenship Education in Asia-Pacific Conference, Bangkok, Thailand
2 – 3 March 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated in the Digital Citizenship Education in Asia-Pacific Conference, Bangkok, Thailand from 2 March to 3 March 2017. The conference was organised by the UNESCO’s Asia Pacific Region Bureau and Asia Pacific Google.

The conference was held to discuss issues related to cyber security in children and youth education as an initiative to nurture and create knowledge as well as understanding about responsibilities of knowledgeable digital citizens.

 

The two–day seminar saw the presentation of various topics and sharing of views, opinions and ideas based on expertise and experience in ICT security field in the education sector.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Lt. Col. Mustaffa Ahmad (Retired), Senior Vice President, Outreach and Capacity Building Division and Elina Mubin from the Outreach and Corporate Communications Department.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia’s involvement in this conference reflects its commitment in ICT and cyber security in educational related issues. This is in line with CyberSecurity Malaysia’s commitment in nuturing positive usage of ICT and cyber security amongst schoolchildren in Malaysia.

ISO 22301 Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) Third Series Implementation Workshop, Dewan Dr Ismail, Agensi Nuklear Malaysia
13 – 15 March 2017

A workshop on ISO 22301 Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) Third Series Implementation was held on 13 March and 15 March 2017. The workshop was jointly organised by CyberSecurity Malaysia and the Modernisation of Administrative and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) at the Agensi Nuklear Malaysia.

 

The main focus of the third series workshop was to develop and review main documents as well as develop objective of service continuity for the overall implementation of BCMS.

 

As a result of the activities that carried out during the three-day workshop, enhancements have been made on the BCMS documentation and development of plan to achieve the outlined objective.

 

A total of 45 participants from various departments at the Agensi Nuklear Malaysia were present contributing towards the success of the workshop.

Cyber Intelligence Asia 2017, Kuala Lumpur

CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated in the Cyber Intelligence Asia 2017 conference held from 4 March to 16 March 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.

 

The annual conference, which was organised by Intelligence-Sec Limited from the United Kingdom was held to dicsuss latest cyber challenges and threats faced in the Asia Pacific region. This year, the organiser has chosen Kuala Lumpur as the host for the event covering the conference and the exhibition.

 

Cyber criminals are always looking for opportunity to breach into computer system of organisations including the government, and this means that cyber security officials need to be alert on the  latest cyber issues and challenges. Hence, this conference has provided the opportunity to cyber security officials to be involved in in-depth discussions and to share opinions about the ways to counter cyber-crime and violence.

 

During the conference Dr. Zahri Yunos, Chief Operating Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to deliver two presentation sessions. The first session was entitled Protecting and Educating Businesses Against Cyber Attacks”.  Dr. Zahri introduced initiatives implemented by CyberSecurity Malaysia to increase the number of professionals in the cyber security filed through the Global Accredited Cybersecurity Education (ACE) Scheme. In the second session, Dr. Zahri delivered a presentation entitled "Cyber Terrorism – How To Train Awareness”. During this session he explained about Cyber Terrorism concepts. The presentation was made to create awareness and understanding about Cyber Terrorism concepts as opposed to other cybercriminal concepts such as Cyber Warfare and Cyber Crime.

 

Cyber Intelligence Asia 2017 was attended by cyber security officials from the Asia Pacific region. A total of 100 participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, Filipina, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and India attended the conference.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia’s involvement in this conference has successfully promoted CyberSecurity Malaya cyber security. Apart from that, it also helps strengthen the position of  CyberSecurity Malaysia as an agency involved in curbing cyber crimes and one tht plays an important role in cyber security field in the Asia Pacific region.

Visit from Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Filipina to CyberSecurity Malaysia

CyberSecurity Malaysia has received a visit from Madam Genalyn B. Macalinao from Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Philippines on 16 March 2017.


The visit was made to find out more about CyberSecurity Malaysia’s initiatives in terms of cyber security training programmes through Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT), Digital Forensics expertise and Malaysia’s security assessment facilities.

 

The delegation was received by Mohd Shamir Hashim, Senior Vice President, Government and International Relations Division, CyberSecurity Malaysia. A briefing session about the functions and roles of Cybersecurity Malaysia was held followed by discussion sessions on bilateral cooperation between CyberSecurity Malaysia and DICT in the ICT aspects particularly in the field of cyber security.

 

The visit ended Madam Genalyn being taken to a tour of the laboratory facilities at CyberSecurity Malaysia namely the Malaysia Security Assessment Facility  laboratory, MyCERT and Digital Forensics .

Working Visit by Kazakhstan Engineering to CyberSecurity Malaysia

CyberSecurity Malaysia has received a working visit from Mr. Vadim Shakshakbayev, Deputy Chairman Board of Directors Kazakhstan Engineering, Republic of Kazakhstan on 17 March 2017.  He was accompanied by Kazakhstan Embassy official, Mr Birzhan Dulatbekov.

 

The visit was held to gain information and exposure about the Malaysian cyber security landscape, to learn from Malaysia’s experience in handling of cyber security incidents  and implementation of effective preventive measures, and also  to obtain information about training programmes and cyber security related services offered by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

 

He was received by CyberSecurity Malaysia, Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab. Then, Mohd Shamir Hashim, Senior Vice President, Government and International Relations Division, CyberSecurity Malaysia delivered a briefing about the functions and roles of CyberSecurity Malaysia. The delegation also visited the Digital Forensics laboratory and the Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT).

 

A discussion session was held to look at opportunities to extend existing bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Kazakhstan Engineering in terms of ICT aspects particularly in the field of cyber security.

Visit to Bangladesh e-Government Computer Incident Response Team (BGD e-GOV CIRT), Dhaka, Bangladesh
21 – 22 March 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia held a working visit to the Bangladesh e-Government Computer Incident Response Team on 21 to 22 March 2017.

The visit was held to assess BGD e-GOVR CIRT’s application to become a full member of the Organisation of Islamic Conference Computer Emergency Response Team (OIC-CERT).


During the visit, CyberSecurity Malaysia’s delegation held a discussion with BGD e-GOV CIRT to understand the BGD e-GOV CIRT’s operations aside from assessing its application to determine whether it fulfils the criteria of OIC-CERT membership.


CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Ahmad Nasir Udin Mohd Zin from the agency’s International Engagement Department and Sharifah Roziah Mohd Kassim from its Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team Department (MyCERT).

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia’s involvement in the assessment session has brought about positive outcomes including increasing membership of OIC-CERT where CyberSecurity Malaysia is its Permanent Secretary, bolstering regional cooperation, enhancing development of expertise and human capital in cybersecurity, exchanging views and strengthening cooperation between the two organisations.

Indonesian OpenGov Leadership Forum 2017, Jakarta, Indonesia

On 22 March 2017 CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to attend Indonesian OpenGov Leadership Forum 2017 organised by OpenGov Asia in Jakarta, Indonesia.

 

The forum was organised to share views on news initiatives and policies in the field of cyber security.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Lt. Col. Sazali Sukardi (Retired), Senior Vice President of Strategic Research Division. He delivered a presentation titled “Securing Your Digital Transformation Process" and was one of the panels for a discussion during the forum.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia’s involvement in the Indonesian OpenGov Leadership Forum 2017 served as an effective platform to share expertise and promote CyberSecurity Malaysia as a national reference centre and Malaysia as a country that places emphasis on cyber security.

Kreativiti & Sciences4u Carnival @Ipoh, Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan
22 – 23 March 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated in  Kreativiti & Sciences4u Carnival in Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan. The two-day carnival was organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in collaboration with Perak Darul Ridzuan state government.

 

During the carnival, CyberSecurity Malaysia has carried out several activities including CyberSAFE Quest, which involved the participation of 40 students from Politeknik Ungku Omar and CyberParenting briefing to visitors particularly parents. Apart from that, CyberSecurity Malaysia also held an interactive exhibition by showcasing cyber security related services and promoting #myviralvow campaign to visitors at the carnival.

 

The two-day carnival attracted more than 5,000 visitors from Ipoh. Several agencies under MOSTI the Malaysian Chemistry Department, the Malaysian Astronauts Foundation, Planetarium, the National Science Centre and  the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) were also involved in the event.

Visit from Mr. MJ Lee, President of Myung IT Korea to CyberSecurity Malaysia

CyberSecurity Malaysia has received a visit from Mr. MJ Lee, President of Myung IT Korea on 23 March 2017. The visit is a follow up to a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of digital forensics tool and technical expertise training between CyberSecurity Malaysia and both Myung IT Korea and Myung Malaysia in 2014.

 

The delegation from Myung IT Korean made up of five officials was taken to a tour of the digital forensics laboratory, the Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) and MyCyberSecurity Clinic.

 

A simple exchanging of understanding document ceremony among the three parties was held witnessed by General Tan Seri Dato' Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi  Mohamed (Retired), Chairman Board of Directors, CyberSecurity Malaysia.

 

Through the renewed MoU, CyberSecurity Malaysia will be exposed to the latest techniques of state-of-the-art equipment and able obtain expert guidance from Myung IT particularly in handling of data recovery service related cases.

 

The collaboration enables transfer of technology and enhance in CyberSecurity Malaysia expertise in the field of cyber security.

 

This visit also offered opportunity for a continuous cooperation to in the field of ICT, research and capacity building between both countries.

ICT Security Awareness Seminar & Launching of Human Impact Management on Information Security –HIMIS, Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan

ICT Security Awareness Seminar and Launching of Human Impact Management on Information Security –HIMIS was held on 30 March 2017 in Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan.

 

The one-day seminar was jointly organised by CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with  Perak state government. The seminar was aimed at creating awarenes amongst civil servants in Perak about the importance of cyber security so that they become more responsible when using internet technology and applications.

 

The event also saw the launching of Human Impact Management System for Information Security (HIMIS). This project was held to gauge and manage the civil servants’ level of understanding about cyber security aimed at lowering the risks of falling victims of cybercrimes.

 

The event was launched by YB Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Mohammed Radzi, Chairman of Perak Multimedia and Communications, Culture, Arts and Tourism Committee at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Ipoh representing YAB Perak Menteri Besar. Also present were YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer, CyberSecurity Malaysia and YBhg. Dato' Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Said, Perak Deputy State Secretary (Management).

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia delivered several series of presentations about cyber security, including Cyber Security Landscape in Malaysia by  Dato’ Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, HIMIS Project by Lt. Col. Mustaffa Ahmad (Retired), Senior Vice President, Outreach & Capacity Building Division, Cybersafe@Work by Jazzanul Azriq Aripin and CyberParentingby Elina Mubin from Outreach & Corporate Communications Department. It was attended by more than 1,000 participants made up of civil servants throughout the state.

 

The ICT Security Awareness seminar has successfully given insights about cyber security scenario in Malaysia apart from encouraging the acculturation of cyber security amongst civil servants. The seminar also serves as an initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) that saw public sector collaboration in strengthening cyber security infrastructure in Malaysia.
