3rd Annual Coordination Meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Institutions (ACMOI), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
3 - 4 December 2017

On 3 and 4 December 2017, the 3rd Annual Coordination Meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Institutions (ACMOI) was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The meeting was organized by Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the World Development Bank (IDB) to coordinate the implementation of OIC declarations, resolutions and decisions on enhancing synergies among OIC institutions. In this regard, OIC-CERT is one of the OIC-linked institutions represented by CyberSecurity Malaysia as the Permanent Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation - Computer Emergency Response Team (OIC-CERT).

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Dr. Zahri Yunos, Chief Operating Officer and Mohd Shamir Hashim, Senior Vice President, Senior Vice President, International Relations and Government Division. A progress report on cybersecurity initiatives undertaken by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation -  Computer Emergency Response Team - (OIC-CERT ) was presented at this meeting.


The involvement of CyberSecurity Malaysia at this meeting shows Malaysia's commitment as the OIC-CERT's Permanent Secretariat and it also opens up opportunities for CyberSecurity Malaysia to establish good relations with representatives of OIC institutions present at this meeting.


Meanwhile, CyberSecurity Malaysia and the Statistical, Economic and Social, Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) based in Ankara, Turkey have also agreed to embark on a collaborative initiative through Memorandum of Understanding in cybersecurity capacity building.

Memorandum of Agreement Signing Ceremony between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Perbadanan Putrajaya, Putrajaya
4 December 2017

On 4 December 2017, there was a signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Perbadanan Putrajaya. The partnership was sealed to evaluate Smart City security projects to enhance the level of cybersecurity on the implementation of Smart City development, especially for systems using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

The Memorandum of Agreement encompasses several areas of cooperation, including identifying any potential weaknesses in implementing Smart City development, exposing cybersecurity threats and highlighting the impact of cybersecurity threats on all users and focusing on the roles that must be taken by all parties to take measures to address the issue of cybersecurity threats.

The MoA signed by the President of Perbadanan Putrajaya, YBhg. Datuk Seri Haji Hasim bin Haji Ismail while YBhg. Dato' Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer, representing CyberSecurity Malaysia.


As a national cybersecurity expert, CyberSecurity Malaysia is recognized for implementing the Security Evaluation Services (VAPT) for Smart Cities, which will enhance the country's resilience and the well-being of the urban community against cybersecurity threats.

Child Online Protection (“COP”) Seminar in ASEAN 2017, Putrajaya Marriot Hotel, Putrajaya
5 – 6 December 2017

On 5 and 6 December 2017 the Child Online Protection Seminar on ASEAN 2017 was held in Putrajaya. The two-day seminar organized by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) was organized to gather experts from Malaysia, ASEAN and countries under ITU to share their expertise and knowledge in bridging the gap of online child protection frameworks.

Also, the seminar is also part of MCMC’s efforts to promote Malaysia initiative on the protection of children online. Among the participants attending the seminar were representatives from the Ministries, local agencies and NGOs and the two countries.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Lt Col Mustaffa Ahmad (Retired), Senior Vice President, Outreach and Capacity Building Division where he presented a presentation entitled "Digital Awareness, Outreach Program."


The involvement of CyberSecurity Malaysia at this seminar shown the industry's recognition of the role played in promoting the cybersecurity agenda relating to children in Malaysia. This is aligned with CyberSAFE's program goals which also emphasizes the importance of cybersecurity.

Cyber Security Indonesia Conference (CSI) 2017, Indonesia
5 – 7 December 2017

On 5 to 7 December 2017, there was a Cyber ​​Security Indonesia Conference (CSI) 2017 hosted by Tarsus Indonesia in Jakarta.

CSI 2017 which includes a conference and an exhibition focusing on the current technological developments and cyber security solutions where it is a platform for policymakers, professionals and cybersecurity service providers to gather and exchange views and experiences.


Other than participants from Indonesia, the event also attended by other delegation consisting of government officials, particularly in the national security sector and critical infrastructure while the private sector from various industries such as Telecommunication, Internet Services, Financial Institutions, E-Commerce, Manufacturing & Media. CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Ismamuradi Bin Dato' Hj Abdul Kadir, Head of Strategic Management Department, where he did a presentation titled "Control your technology ... Do not let it control you."


The participation at this event has further strengthened CyberSecurity Malaysia's name as cybersecurity expert in the Asia region. Additionally, it also provides opportunities for strategic collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia and organizations from other countries on cybersecurity.

CyberSecurity Malaysia and KUB Malaysia Berhad Cooperation in the Implementation of the Business Continuity Management System, Petaling Jaya
6, 13, 14 and 15 December 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia and KUB Malaysia Berhad (KUBM) have collaborated in conducting a pioneer audit activities for the Business Continuity Management System based on ISO 22301: 2012 on 6, 13, 14 and 15 December 2017.

KUB Malaysia Berhad has been the pioneer agency for the Certification of Business Continuity Management System in September 2016 and became the first organization to undergo ISO 22301 certification audits by CyberSecurity Malaysia. The purpose of this audit is to certify KUBM with Service Continuity Management System based on international standard ISO 22301: 2012.


The audit process was held in stages beginning 6 December 2017 and ending on 15 December 2017 involving KUBM's headquarters and Kuba's subsidiary KUBGaz Sdn. Bhd. located in Port Klang and also Johor Baharu. Auditing results has qualified both KUBM and KUBGaz to obtain ISO 22301 certification.

Launching of CAMMUKA in conjunction with Malaysia Commercialization Year Summit 2017 (#MCYsummit2017)@GECommunity, Kuala Lumpur
12 – 13 December 2017

On 12 and 13 December 2017 there was a Malaysia Commercialization Year Summit 2017 (#MCYsummit2017) @GECommunity in Kuala Lumpur. The event was organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) which has been mandated to spearhead the country's commercialization initiatives through the Malaysia Commercialization Year (MCY 2.0) from 2017 to 2019 to focus on the commercialization of products/technology from local development and research (R&D).

During the event, CyberSecurity Malaysia launched a new innovative product known as CamMuka. CamMuka is a facial recognition technology system built using the expertise of CyberSecurity Malaysia's research and development conducted by the Digital Forensics Department in Biometric Technology.

The CamMuka system contains some of the main components comprising hardware and also software specially designed to support CamMuka system functions. The main function of the CamMuka system is for face registration in 2D and 3D form, video frame extraction from CCTV footage and facial recognition analysis used as evidence with an investigation of the digital forensic-related case. The CamMuka system has won silver medals at the 28th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) program which took place on 11 to 13 May 2017 ago.

The launching ceremony was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. Also presented were YB Datuk Wira Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YBhg. Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar Haji Yahaya, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and also YBhg. Dato' Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer, CyberSecurity Malaysia.


The involvement of CyberSecurity Malaysia at the MCY Summit 2017 @ GECommunity is to provide exposure to the industry about products that was built on forensic expertise. Also, it strengthens CyberSecurity Malaysia's position as the leader in cybersecurity in Malaysia.

CAMP Regional Forum & Operation Meeting, Hanoi, Vietnam
12 – 15 December 2017

On 12 until 15 December 2017, the 2nd CAMP Regional Forum and Operation Committee Meeting was held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The program organized by Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) involved special invited participants as well as representatives from various CERTs and CSIRTs including South Korea (KISA), Vietnam (VNCERT), Malaysia (MyCERT), Indonesia (Coordinating Ministry for Political Affairs , Legal Information Technology Authority (CITA), Mauritius (National Computer Board), Uganda (Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology), Nigeria (Economic Community of West African States Commission) and Kosovo (Kosovo Customs).

The forum and meeting were held to discuss and share information on the current cybersecurity issues. In addition, the meeting was also held to discuss national-level cybersecurity strategies and current issues by each member of the Operations Committee (OC).

The invitation to CyberSecurity Malaysia is recognized as a leading agency in cybersecurity industry in Malaysia. At the same time, representatives of foreign countries also consider CyberSecurity Malaysia as a country-minded representative and cooperate to ensure that cybersecurity is secured internationally.

Signing Ceremony of the Cooperation Note between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and National Security Council (MKN), Putrajaya
21 December 2017

On 21 December 2017, a signing ceremony of cooperation note between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and National Security Council (MKN) was held in Putrjaya.

The document was to seal the agreement on the transfer of cybersecurity functions from MOSTI to the National Cyber ​​Security Agency (NACSA), which is a central agency responsible for all cybersecurity aspects under the National Security Council (MKN), the Prime Minister's Department.

However, CyberSecurity Malaysia remains as an entity under MOSTI and will continue to operate in the areas of research and development (R & D), industrial development and cybersecurity training.

With the signing of the cooperation note, NACSA ​​and CyberSecurity Malaysia will work together to ensure a safe and resilient of the regional cyber environment to sustain the progress and prosperity of the nation. Additionally, it also showed the Government's serious commitment to addressing cyber threats in Malaysia.

The ceremony was concluded by YBhg. Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar Haji Yahaya, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and YBhg. Dato' Dr. Haji Amiruddin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia on behalf of MOSTI while YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' Sri (Dr.) Zulkifeli bin Mohd Zin (Retired), Director General of National Security, National Security Council and YBhg. Ir. Md Shah Nuri bin Md Zain, Chief Executive, National Cyber ​​Security Agency represented the National Security Council.


The signing ceremony witnessed by YB Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation and YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' (Dr.) Ali bin Hamsa, Chief Secretary to the Government.

International Conference on Software and e-Business (ICSEB) 2017, Hong Kong
28 – 30 December 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the International Conference on Software and e-Business or ICSEB 2017 held in Hong Kong from 28 to 30 December 2017.

ICSEB 2017 which was organized by IEDRC.ORG is a platform for industry professionals, academicians, and individuals comprising various government institutions, industries and agencies to exchange information, accomplishments, and discuss progress in software and e-Business.

A total of 30 papers were presented at the conference attended by various countries including Malaysia, Turkey, China, Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines. CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Wira Zanoramy Ansiry Bin Zakaria from the Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT), where he presented a presentation entitled "The Rise of Ransomware".


Participation at this conference has provided the opportunity to introduce CyberSecurity Malaysia to the international research community as well as to engage in good relationships and gather feedback on the IT field from participants attending this conference.
