Message from CEO

Assalamualaikum WBT dan Salam Sejahtera. We meet again in the fourth edition of CyberNEWS for 2017. On this occasion, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year 2018 and thank you to our loyal readers who constantly read and support CyberNEWS.

2017 has left us, and in 2018, CyberSecurity Malaysia will continue to improve its capabilities in providing cybersecurity services towards striving for nation's prosperity and avoiding cyber threats.

Similar to previous publications, CyberNEWS present information on various activities and events that were organized and participated by CyberSecurity Malaysia during the last quarter of 2017.

Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference & Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2017 event was a success. CyberSecurity Malaysia has successfully organized this event for nine years now and eventually developed its position as a leading global cyber security agency in Malaysia.

CyberSecurity Malaysia also collaborates with the National Council of Women's Organizations Malaysia (NCWO) in organizing the #CyberSAFE Seminar - Safeguarding Women and Children's Safety in CyberSAFE. This large-scale seminar was conducted for the first time and has uplifted CyberSAFE Program to the national level. This program has also successfully highlighted the importance of cybersecurity awareness to Internet users in Malaysia, especially women and children.

Also, CyberSecurity Malaysia is directly involved in the 2017 Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation - Computer Emergency Response Team (OIC-CERT). CyberSecurity Malaysia active engagement has enhanced its reputation alongside contributing to APCERT and OIC-CERT in managing computer network systems and cybersecurity incident handling internationally. Once again, CyberSecurity Malaysia is elected as Member of Steering Committee and Deputy Chairman of APCERT.

The last quarter also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) and the National Security Council (NCS) to realize the operational functions of national cybersecurity by CyberSecurity Malaysia reports to the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA). This demonstrates the importance of cybersecurity, to ensure a safe and resilient cybersecurity environment to sustain the progress and prosperity of the nation.

2017 was indeed another interesting year for CyberSecurity Malaysia. Despite the challenges, 2017 witnessed many success stories within and outside the country. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to these accomplishments.

For more insight into activities and programs throughout the last quarter, look out for more information in this CyberNEWS publication. Enjoy reading!

Thank you.
Dato' Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab
Chief Executive Officer, CyberSecurity Malaysia
