ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27 IT Security Techniques Meeting-Berlin, Germany
30 October - 3 November 2017

On 30 October until 3 November 2017, ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27 IT Security Techniques Meeting was held in Berlin, Germany. The meeting was represented by Puan Maslina Daud, Senior Vice President, Cyber ​​Security Proactive Services Division, CyberSecurity Malaysia.

 

This meeting aimed to discuss issues related to the development of standards globally. In the field of information security, ISO and IEC have established a Joint Technical Committee composed of five Working Groups (WG) responsible for the technical development of information security and IT standards. CyberSecurity Malaysia is a member of three Working Groups, Working Group 1 (WG1): Information Security Management Systems; Working Group 3 (WG3): Security Evaluation, Testing and Specification as well as Working Group 4 (WG4): Security Controls and Services.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this meeting is to get updated proposal, the direction and duration of work for the production of document, especially documents related to the projects handled by CyberSecurity Malaysia.

 

In addition, CyberSecurity Malaysia also aimed to find out current global issues in order to enhance the provision of services and research in the field of information security. The meeting also served as a platform to strengthen the cooperation network with participants from various countries around the world who participated in this meeting.

6th Technical Colloquium, Seri Kembangan, Selangor
2 November 2017

On 2 November 2017, Technical Colloquium 2017 was held to encourage CyberSecurity Malaysia employees to produce technical papers based on the areas of their expertise and skills. A total of eight technical papers covering variety of topics were presented during the final.

 

The winner of Published category goes to "Cyber ​​Security Situational Awareness Among Students: A Case Study in Malaysia" prepared by Outreach & Corporate Communications Department. Second place goes to "CCTV Quality Assessment For Forensics Facial Recognition" prepared by Digital Forensics and third place goes to “Automated Analysis Report Generation Using CSM S-Box Evaluation Tool (CSET)" prepared by Cryptology Development Department.

 

For the “Un-Published” category, winner goes to “Automated Randomness Analysis Report Generation Using CSM Randomness Test Tool" prepared by Cryptology Development Department. While Best Speaker goes to Mohamad Firham Effendy from Digital Forensic Department.

 

YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia presented the prizes to the winners.

Conference and Annual General Meeting 2017 to the Computer Emergency Response Team - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-CERT), Baku, Azerbaijan
6 – 9 November 2017

On 6 until 9 November 2017, Annual Conference 2017 of Computer Emergency Response Team - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-CERT) was held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The conference was organized by the Computer Emergency Response Team of the Government of Azerbaijan (CERT.GOV.AZ) with OIC-CERT.

 

The conference involving 158 participants from 26 countries aimed to provide a channel of information sharing, discuss current issues of cyber security, technical sessions and exchange experiences to increase cyber security administration efficiency. In addition, the conference also provides a platform for member countries to discuss strategic directions and challenges thus enhancing cooperation in the field of cyber security among members.

 

During the event, OIC-CERT Board Meeting was also held to discuss matters related to the operation such as membership, the progress of the working group and administrative framework.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this conference was to strengthen the ties between Malaysia and other countries at the international level. In addition, it will also enhance Malaysia's ability to deal with cyber threats through sharing of information, expertise, research and best practices with computer emergency response teams from OIC-CERT member countries.

 

Through this active participation, CyberSecurity Malaysia highlights the contributions and roles played by Malaysia in the field of cyber security, especially to the OIC member countries.

2017 Cyber Offensive and Defensive Exercise (CODE), Taipei, Taiwan
8 - 10 November 2017

On 8 until 10 November 2017, 2017 Cyber Offensive and Defensive Exercise was held in Taipei, Taiwan organized by the National Information and Communication Security Taskforce (NICST) of the Executive Yuan (Taiwan Government). CyberSecurity Malaysia has been invited to attend this program. The program was aimed at sharing information and experiences on handling incidents more effectively, especially Critical Information Infrastructure (CNII).

 

The program is also carried out to test the preparedness of the organization to face cyber threats, strengthen the response to cyber security, develop response of participating agencies during the occurrence of cyber-attacks, assess the ability to recover and coordinate system, evaluate the overall strategy including Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) agencies participate.

 

Through this program, CyberSecurity Malaysia has been able to obtain information and learn methods of implementing cyber security training more effectively. In addition, a memorandum of understanding will be signed between CyberSecurity Malaysia through MyCERT and TWCERT as a platform to facilitate collaborative work at the operational level.

Exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Huawei, Kuala Lumpur
9 November 2017

On 9 November 2017 there was an exchange of Memorandum of Understanding between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Huawei. The event was held in conjunction with Huawei Asia-Pacific Innovation Day 2017 organized by Huawei Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

 

A memorandum of understanding was signed to recognize the cooperation between the two parties in the development of Smart Cities beyond economic partnership through CyberSecurity Malaysia Cooperation Program (CCP).

 

The exchange of documents of was done by Dato' Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia together with Mr. Abraham Liu Kang, CEO of Huawei Malaysia and witnessed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi.

 

With the signing of this memorandum of understanding, CyberSecurity Malaysia will be able to develop digital economy not only in Malaysia but also in the ASEAN region as well as venture towards digital transformation.

DiCyFor Security Summit 2017, Singapura
13 – 14 November 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia has been invited to participate in DiCyFor Security Summit 2017 held in Singapore from 13 to 14 November 2017.

 

This program was organized by Nimat Media. It includes conferences and exhibitions focussing on the issue of content, quality and communication network information security, digital forensics community locally and internationally. It is a platform for knowledge sharing in the development of the cybersecurity that discuss about the challenges, threats and resolution of issues related to cyber security.

 

Mohd Zabri Adil Talib, Head of Digital Forensics has represented CyberSecurity Malaysia and gave a talk entitled "Accelerating Security Investigation".

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement in this program has opened up opportunities for international cooperation in information sharing cyber security and digital forensics and cyber security industry players such as GE China, Interpol, Paypal, Darktrace, Responsible Cyber, Avaloq, Cloud Security Alliance.

S.Rajaratnam School Of International Studies (RSIS) Cybercrime Workshop, Singapura
13 – 14 November 2017

On 13 and 14 November 2017, Cyber ​​Crime Workshop organized by the Centre of Excellence for National Security (CENS), S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), entitled "Cybercrime Workshop: The Hidden World" was held. The workshop was organized as a platform to share knowledge on topics related to cyber security, which identify trends in cybercrime on a global perspective, the development of cybercrime in dark web, understand the psychology behind cybercrime and cybercrime analysis of threats to the industry.

 

Mohd Zabri Adil Talib, Head of Digital Forensics Department was invited to attend the workshop where he delivered a speech entitled "Case Study: Android Malware Targeting Malaysian Internet Banking User".

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this workshop has strengthened the strategic cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore in the area of ​​cyber security, in addition to network with speakers and workshop participants. It has also opened up opportunities for international cooperation in information sharing cyber security and digital forensics between CyberSecurity Malaysia and the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.

Roundtable ISO Smart City Meeting, Barcelona, Spain
15 – 17 November 2017

On 15 until 17 November 2017 there was a Roundtable ISO Smart City Meeting in Barcelona, ​​Spain. The meeting organized by ISO, IEC and ITU was attended by 28 delegates from various countries, among them Barcelona, ​​Malaga, The Hague, London, Moscow, Utrecht, Hangzhou, Japan and Malaysia. It was held to discuss the challenges in producing an ISO standard for Smart Cities.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this meeting was to enhance knowledge in the development of Smart Cities, particularly issues relating to education, employment and security shared by the delegates based on their experience in developing Smart City in their respective countries.

 

Information gathered from these meetings will be used to streamline the service offering assessment and obstacles exam of smart city provided by CyberSecurity Malaysia. In addition, cooperation and collaboration can also be established between experts meeting at which it is able to become a source of reference in finding a solution to produce a comprehensive standard Smart City.

6th Regional Cybersecurity Summit, Muscat, Oman
20 – 21 November 2017

On 20 until 21 November 2017, 6th Regional Cybersecurity Summit was held in Muscat, Oman. The organizers, ITA Oman has invited Dr. Zahri Yunus, Chief Operating Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia to deliver a presentation entitled "People Factors in Cyber ​​Resilience: Creating the Need for Cybersecurity Experts". A total of 38 speakers participated in the conference which was attended by 300 participants from various countries.

 

This conference aimed to find out the latest trends in cyber security issues and share information on critical infrastructure protection which is a key issue that must be addressed by regional countries.

 

Through this conference, CyberSecurity Malaysia has been able to promote the Global Accredited CyberSecurity Education (ACE Global) Scheme internationally primarily on the OIC countries.

Joint International Conferences on Emerging Technology and Sports 2017 (JICETS2017), Kuching, Sarawak
25 – 27 November 2017

On 25 until 27 November 2017, a Joint International Conferences on Emerging Technology and Sports 2017 (JICETS2017) was held in Kuching, Sarawak. The three-day conference was organized by the Green Advanced Computing and Technology (GREAT) Research Group, Center of Excellence Geopolymer and Green Technology (CEGeoGTech) and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).

 

The conference attracted participation from academics, researchers and professional practitioners in the field of 'Big Data' and 'Cloud Computing' in Malaysia. In addition, the sharing of knowledge by academics and professionals has been able to bridge the gap and build an understanding on the development and management of 'Big Data' and 'Cloud Computing' at the national and international levels.

 

Through this conference, CyberSecurity Malaysia has been able to strengthen its position as the leading agency cyber security either in Malaysia or abroad.

23 November 2017

Pacific Intech - Cyber ​​Security Conference was held on 23 November 2017 in Putrajaya. The conference organized by the Pacific Intech Distribution Sdn Bhd was held with the aim to discuss the subject in addressing aspects of information security and cyber awareness by some industry experts.

 

Through this program, CyberSecurity Malaysia has been able to learn about the latest science of cyber security and share information and build a new network with the industry in addition to getting new ideas for dealing with cyber security issues.

Cyber4All - A Secure and Inclusive Cyberspace for Sustainable Development Conference, New Delhi, India
23 – 24 November 2017

On 23 until 24 November 2017 a Cyber4All – A Secure and Inclusive Cyberspace for Sustainable Development Conference was held in New Delhi, India organized by the Global Conference on Cyber ​​Space (GCCS) in 2017. The event was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Damodardas Modi.

 

The conference was held to foster a holistic view of cyberspace as well as the empowerment of the individual and the government in achieving national development goals. The program encourages open dialogue among all parties to make cyberspace a safe and inclusive. In addition, it will also bring awareness to the world community on issues critical to optimize the potential of cyberspace for all.

 

Through participation in this conference, it can increase the credibility of CyberSecurity Malaysia at the international level, to raise awareness of cyber security to participants from around the world, expanding the cooperation network with business leaders, researchers, scientists and educators and obtain input in improving the content of cyber security awareness program.

Maritime Security and Coastal Surveillance 2017, Singapore
27 – 29 November 2017

On 27 until 29 November 2017, Maritime Security and Coastal Surveillance 2017 was held in Max Atria, Singapore organized by the International Quality and Productivity Centre (IQPC).

 

The seminar served as a platform for CyberSecurity Malaysia to showcase aspects of leadership, commitment and recognition. In addition, this seminar could also prove CyberSecurity Malaysia's commitment and leadership in cyber security at national and international levels, particularly in raising awareness and knowledge of cyber threats.

 

The seminar also shared ways to deal with key issues such as maritime terrorism, border protection and a deeper partnership on cyber security in the maritime aspect.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this seminar provided an opportunity to better known and increase knowledge in the expanding field of cyber security.

Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding between CyberSecurity Malaysia dan May Cyber Teknoloji A.S, Putrajaya
28 November 2017

CyberSecurity Malaysia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the May Cyber ​​Technology A.S, a company based in Ankara, Turki to strengthen cyber security infrastructure. The program was held on 28 November 2017 in Putrajaya.

 

The MoU was signed by Dato' Dr. Amirudin Haji Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, while Mehmet Ali Yalcindag, chairman of the Cyber ​​Technology May US and witnessed by General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed (Retired), Chairman of the Board of Directors, CyberSecurity Malaysia.

 

Among the areas of cooperation identified in the MoU are: -

  1. Collaboration in research and development which include the technical field of cyber security, tools, methods and processes;
  2. Capacity building through training programs in cyber security competence and skills; and
  3. Develop a marketing strategy to promote cyber security.

 

Through this cooperation, CyberSecurity Malaysia is able to contribute to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) as the national cyber security industry has attracted foreign cyber security organizations to invest in Malaysia.

 

Malaysia will also be the 'hub' of the development services as well as technological expertise for countries of the ASEAN region, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation - OIC. To achieve that goal, the US May Cyber ​​Technology will establish the first regional office in Malaysia in addition to cooperation with local businesses to promote technology transfer.

 

To ensure implementation of the agreed areas, an action plan will be developed to assist and monitor the implementation of their activities and promote the sharing of information between the two organizations.

Annual General Meeting and Conference of Computer Emergency Response Team Asia Pacific (APCEPT), New Delhi, India
12 – 15 November 2017

On 12 until 15 November 2017, the Annual General Meeting and Conference 2017 to Computer Emergency Response Team Asia Pacific (APCEPT) were held in New Delhi, India. The program was organized by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team.

 

This four-day program aims to meet its obligations as a member of the Steering Committee and Deputy Chairman, strengthen ties of cooperation between Malaysia and the member countries APCERT, highlighting the important contribution and role played by Malaysia in the field of cyber security to the member countries of the Asia Pacific and recognition of Malaysia's expertise in this area has increased demand for Malaysian APCERT provide training in the field of cyber security expertise to the agency from Bhutan and Mongolia.

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement in this program will enhance the ability of APCERT in computer network management and control incidents online, implement the agenda of cyber security at the international level and to recognize APCERT as well as to gain confidence of the members to reappoint CyberSecurity Malaysia as a member of the Steering Committee and Deputy Chairman APCERT.
