In the first quarter of 2014, CyberSecurity Malaysia has received numerous visits from organisations, associations, colleges and universities. Such visits are seen as effective tools for CyberSecurity Malaysia to introduce the functions and roles of this organisation, as well as for sharing information about the services offered. These visits are also instrumental in providing an opportunity to explain the importance of cyber security in daily life of the Digital Malaysia society nowadays. Indirectly, it can foster and enhance the understanding of the participants in the areas of cyber security and internet.
Apart from these visits, CyberSecurity Malaysia also continued its domain development efforts and initiatives by organising workshops and courses in related fields of digital forensics, information security assessment and information security management system (ISMS). These workshops and courses will help the participants in gaining exposure to the latest information in the areas of their operations.
To express appreciation to the organisations that have built cyber security as the core of their business operations and administration, a handing over ceremony of certificates for organisations that were successfully certified in areas such as - Common Criteria ISO / IEC 15408, Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) ISO / IEC 27001 and Malaysia Trustmark for e-business during the year 2013, was held on January 20, 2014. The ceremony was officially opened by the Hon. Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. It is hoped that these events would boost and inspire other organisations in this domain to also obtain cyber security certifications.
As the driver of the national cyber security initiatives, CyberSecurity Malaysia is also actively involved in organising support programs and international events in this domain. In the first quarter of 2014, CyberSecurity Malaysia has participated in several international events such as the Global Cybercrime Enforcement Summit 2014, Conference BlueSPACE IT Security 2014, 2014 Digital Crime Consortium (DCC 2014) and the ASEAN Workshop Regional Forum (ARF) - Cyber Confidence Building Measures.
Participation in these events has created an opportunity for CyberSecurity Malaysia to share their expertise through presentations slots provided by the organisers, in addition, it also provides an opportunity to introduce and promote CyberSecurity Malaysia in the international arena.
Besides participation in the conferences, CyberSecurity Malaysia also took part in the annual cyber exercise - Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) Drill Exercise 2014 entitled "Countering Cyber-ops with Regional Coordination". All these activities at the international level are capable of putting Malaysia on par with other countries and allow Malaysia to remain relevant in the field of cyber security in the region.
Finally, I would urge all those involved in the cyber security domain for continued cooperation and collaboration in an integrated manner to ensure that cyber security domain remains a premier industry that contributes to the prosperity and development of the national economy.
