China Internet Security Conference 2018 (ISC 2018), Beijing, China

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the China Internet Security Conference 2018 (ISC 2018) in Beijing, China from 4 to 6 September 2018.

ISC 2018 is a prestigious and influential Internet security conference in China. The sixth edition conference was held under the patronage of the four major Chinese Government agencies that are Cybersecurity Coordination Bureau, Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission; Cybersecurity Administration Bureau, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; Cyber Security Department, Ministry of Public Security; and the Office of State Commercial Cryptolography Administration.

A total of 7,000 delegates around the world attended the three day conference that consists of 30 forum sessions.

CyberSecurity Malaysia is represented by Ts. Dr. Zahri Yunos, Chief Operating Officer. He delivered a presentation entitled "National Key Information Infrastructure Emergency Response Model" at the Emergency Response forum which was attended by over 150 delegates and speakers from China and Russia.

CyberSecurity Malaysia is recognized for its expertise and this forum promotes and strengthens Malaysia's position in cybersecurity field internationally.

Asian Forensic Society Network (AFSN) Annual Meeting and Symposium Forum, Beijing, China

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the Asian Forensic Society Network (AFSN) Symposium Forum and the Annual Meeting of the Institute for Forensic Science (IFS), Ministry of Public Security, China from September 4 to 8 in Beijing.

Established in 2008, the Asian Forensic Society Network (AFSN) is a working group comprising CyberSecurity Malaysia to discuss issues related to forensics. AFSN is attended by ASEAN countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia and Vietnam. It is also a platform in the effort to improve the quality, quality and strategic development of the forensic field.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Mohd Zabri Adil bin Talib, Mohamad Firham Efendy bin Md Senan and Mohammad Hazim bin Zahri from the Digital Forensics Department.

Mohammad Hazim bin Zahri presented on “Evidence Preservation from WordPress Website”; Mohamad Firham Efendy bin Md Senan presented on “Data Preservation from Vehicle Infotainment System for Forensics Analysis'” and Mohd Zabri Adil bin Talib presented on “The Analytical Big Data Based Framework for Malware Visualization and Prediction Focusing on Malaysia Threat Landscape”.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation has further strengthened Malaysia-ASEAN cooperation in digital forensic field as well as establishing a network of collaborators with digital forensic experts from Asian countries.

US - Japan Industrial Control System Cybersecurity Joint Training, Tokyo, Japan

 

On 10 to 14 September 2018, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in the Cyber Security Industrial Control System training program in Tokyo, Japan. The program is jointly organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan, Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA), Japan and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the United States of America for the Asia Pacific region.

This training is one of the phases for CyberSecurity Malaysia to obtain information on the development of the simulation laboratories that are in progress in the effort of implementing the SCADA Security Control System and the SCADA Safety Experimental Simulation Laboratory Project.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Mohd Fadzlan Mohamed Kamal from the Department of Malaysia Vulnerability Assessment Center (MyVAC). It is estimated that more than 220 participants from various countries attended the program which also received direct coverage from local Japanese media.

In this training, CyberSecurity Malaysia gained knowledge and exchanged ideas about the development of the SCADA Safety Experiments Simulation Laboratory.

Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), Kuala Lumpur

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia (MOFA) organized the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP) from 18 to 27 September 2018 in Kuala Lumpur. The program realized Malaysia's commitment to South-South Cooperation, particularly in technical cooperation among developing countries.

In 2018, CyberSecurity Malaysia once again participated in the technical training programs under MTCP provision. Through this program, participants were given exposure on cyber security, security management and the cyber threat incidents framework implemented in the form of practicality as well as enhancing their capabilities in dealing with threats and cyber crimes and thus qualifying them for Cyber Defender Associate certification.

The 10-day program was attended by 14 participants from 10 countries namely Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, Nigeria, Sudan and Uzbekistan.

The opening ceremony of the MTCP was officiated by CyberSecurity Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Dato' Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab on September 18, 2018, while the closing ceremony was officiated by General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Bin Mohamed (Retired), Chairman Board of Directors, CyberSecurity Malaysia on September 25, 2018 in conjunction with the Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference & Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2018.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's involvement in the program further strengthened its position as the leading cyber security technical agency in Malaysia.

Forum ASEAN E-Financial Inclusion, Kuala Lumpur

 

On 26 September 2018, the ASEAN E-Financial Inclusion Forum organized by Bank Negara Malaysia in partnership with Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) was organized in Kuala Lumpur.

The forum was held to discuss potential of technological innovations and digital platforms in transforming the future Financial Inclusion landscape, including promoting more users into the formal banking system.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Fazlan Abdullah from Government Relations Department. He presented a paper titled “Malaysia's National Cyber Security Policy: A Holistic Approach for Cyber Security and Critical Information Infrastructure Protection. Over 100 participants from various centers in the Asia Pacific region are participated in the forum.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was given an opportunity to share experiences on implementing the National Cyber Security Policy and to explore potential collaboration with agencies and organizations from other countries.

Cyber Security Malaysia – Awards, Conference & Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2018, Kuala Lumpur

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia organized the annual Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference & Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2018 on 24 to 28 September 2018 at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur.

The 10th CSM-ACE was supported by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (MCMM), the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), National Security Council (NSC) and National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA).

The event which is based on public-private partnership three (3) major components namely the Malaysian Cyber Security Awards, Conferences and Exhibitions. It is a platform for professionals and cyber security industry players to gather, exchange views and share ideas about technology as well as issues on cyber security. It is also an avenue for business networking and collaboration opportunities among local and foreign cyber security industry players.

Among the main components of CSM-ACE 2018 are:-

    CSM-ACE 2018 Capacity Building Program
    CSM-ACE 2018 provides 11 cyber security training programs. The training program starts from September 24 to 28, 2018 and is designed specifically to enhance skills and competencies in the area of cyber security to produce knowledgeable workforce and to address cyber threats. A total of 205 attendees attended the training program.

    CSM-ACE 2018 Conference
    The CSM-ACE 2018 conference took place on September 25, 2018 involving two major tracks, namely Management and Technical. There are four panel discussion sessions based on CSM-ACE 2018 theme "Partnership in Securing 4IR Towards National Sovereignty". The conference was attended by 500 participants around the world.

    CSM-ACE 2018 Opening and Keynotes
    The Opening Ceremony of CSM-ACE 2018 was held on September 25, 2018 and officiated by YB Tuan Eddin Syazlee Shith, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia. CyberSecurity Malaysia Chairman Board of Directors, General Tan Sri Dato' Seri Panglima Mohd Azumi Bin Mohamed (Retired) and Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, Dato' Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab witnessed the ceremony. Three keynotes were delivered by the industry players namely Palo Alto, Datasonic Group Berhad and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. A total of 900 participants from public and private sectors, institutions of higher learning and cyber security industry players attended the ceremony.

    CSM-ACE Information Security Exhibition 2018
    A total of 50 organizations participated in the Information Security Exhibition in conjunction with CSM-ACE 2018 to promote their products and services. At the exhibition hall, CyberSecurity Malaysia launched the "Technology Security Assurance" (TSA) service which is a national assessment and certification scheme for local ICT products. This service was developed through the Department of Malaysian Security Evaluation Facility (CSM MySEF).

    CSM-ACE 2018 Satellite Events
    Cyber Forensics Colloquium
    The colloquium was held on September 24, 2018 involving 21 local universities. It was held for the first time as a platform for information gathering and information exchange on the latest digital forensic technology for the purpose of setting up the Digital Forensics Science Network. The inauguration was officiated by Dato' Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

Cybersecurity Awareness and Knowledge Systemic High-Level Application Workshop (YAKSHA)
The event was held from 25 to 26 September 2018 and attended by several EU countries such as Portugal, Greece, Italy, France, Bulgaria, Finland and Spain. YAKSHA aims to bring the importance of cyber security in the ASEAN region to work together to strengthen the ASEAN cyber security ecosystem. It will also create a shared vision from the point of view of the cyber security innovation ecosystem.

Among other satellite events are Datasonic Workshop, Palo Alto Training, Heitech Workshop and Industrial Control System Safety Seminar. Overall, about 300 participants signed up for this event.

CSM-ACE 2018 strengthened CyberSecurity Malaysia's position as a leader in cyber security in Malaysia as well as globally.

Malaysia Cyber Security Awards 2018, Kuala Lumpur

 

The Malaysian Cyber Security Awards 2018 was organized on 26 September 2018 in conjunction with Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference & Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2018 which was held from 24 to 28 September 2018 at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur. The awards presentation ceremony was officiated by YB Tuan Eddin Syazlee Shith, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia.

The Malaysian Cyber Security Awards recognizes the achievements of local information security professionals, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and also global organizations that have contributed towards the development of cyber security in the dynamic landscape of Malaysian ICT.

There are seven (7) categories of awards in 2018, namely:-
i. Best Cyber Security Professional
ii. Best Cyber Security Organization
iii. iii. Best Cyber Security Project
iv. Best Cyber Security Innovation
v. Best Cyber Security Assurance Provider
vi. Best CyberSAFE Professional, and
vii. Cyber Security Lifetime Achievement Award

Grand Final of National ICT Security Discourse – CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy (NICTSeD) 2018, Kuala Lumpur

 

The Grand Final of National ICT Security Discourse - CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy 2018 or NICTSeD 2018 was held on 27 September 2017. It is the annual ICT security discourse competition held in English by CyberSecurity Malaysia. NICTSeD 2018 is supported by the Ministry of Education (MOE) through the Education Technology Division (BTP) and is open to secondary school students across Malaysia.

The finals was held in conjunction with Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference & Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2018 and was officiated by Datuk Dr. Amin bin Senin, Director General of Education, Ministry of Education Malaysia representing YB Minister of Education, Malaysia.

This sixth NICTSeD is participated by 160 secondary schools from all over Malaysia. Two (2) schools emerged as finalists, namely SMJK Jit Sin of Pulau Pinang and SMK Abdul Rahman Talib, Pahang.

SMJK Jit Sin, Pulau Pinang was crowned champion by bringing interesting arguments on the topic "Malaysia's National Child Protection Policy and Plan of Action on Child Online Protection is consistent with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the country's Child (Amendment) Act 2016 which aims to protect minors. This includes inappropriate cyber content. This is pertinent and important especially in the 4th Industrial Revolution. Categories of inappropriate cyber content include hate groups, violence, pornography, illegal activities, extremist groups, online advertising etc. Carry out a survey in your school. In your survey, you should indicate the current situation faced by minors. Propose a program / campaign to build cyber resilience to help minors cope with this predicament in the 4th Industrial Revolution".

The champion won a cash prize of RM5,000, a CyberSAFE Challenge Cup as well as a certificate of participation. This discourse successfully polished students communication and research skills as well as the ability to address ICT security issues, which are important as they prepare for university.

NICTSeD 2018 is also supported by DiGi Telecommunications, BAE Systems, Symantec and Dewan Baa & Pustaka (DBP).

India Cyber Security Dialogue, Mumbai, India

 

India Cyber Security Dialogue was held in Mumbai, India on September 27 and 28, 2018.This dialogue was organized by UBM India Pvt Ltd. (India) was held to identify cyber-threat issues faced in the South Asian region and exchange knowledge on the development of cyber security strategies and methods of addressing these threats.

Over 100 participants attended this dialogue. CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited as a speaker. Fazlan Abdullah from the Department of Government Relations delivered a presentation entitled "Malaysia's National Cyber Security Policy: A Holistic Approach for Cyber Security And Critical Information Infrastructure Protection".

In this dialogue, CyberSecurity Malaysia analysed case studies and best practices in Cyber security implementation on Indian organizations, shared experiences on the implementation of the National Cyber Security Policy to participants and established strategic cyber security collaboration with other agencies.
