First, I would like to thank you for your continuous support towards the publication of CyberNEWS every quarter.
2016 left with not only various challenges but also abundance of achievements for CyberSecurity Malaysia, in its continuous effort as mandated by the Government as the technical expert agency on cyber security.
In 2016, we witnessed a new phenomenon in cyberspace. There was a huge increase in the usage of social media through various applications. These have affected Malaysian's lifestyle tremendously. Consequently, there are cyber security incidents as such, social engineering activities that interfere the development of the country economically and socially.
Recognizing the importance of cyber security in the development and prosperity of the country, CyberSecurity Malaysia led the cyber security industry in Malaysia by actively participated in various activities and discussion throughout 2016. CyberSecurity Malaysia successfully portrayed its efforts to empower cyber security.
In that same year, CyberSecurity Malaysia accomplished the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) initiatives through the Social Innovation Program (MSI) by conducting 'Ops Jelajah Cyber 2.0', CyberPreneur and Carnival Creativity & Science 4U throughout Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak.
Other than Malaysia, CyberSecurity Malaysia also attended various cyber security seminars, congresses and conferences in the international arena. Its expertise and experience were being recognized as CyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to present its research findings. In second quarter of 2016, CyberSecurity Malaysia was nominated top five best projects for the WSIS Prize award in 2016 at the World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS) 2016 in Geneva, Switzerland.
CyberSecurity Malaysia also successfully organized its annual event, Cyber Security Malaysia - Awards, Conference and Exhibition (CSM-ACE) 2016. While at the ground level, CyberSecurity Malaysia organized the National ICT Security Discourse: CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy 2016 (NICTSeD) for the secondary pupil throughout the Malaysia. It aimed to raise awareness of cyber security as well as educating young people about cyber threats.
CyberSecurity Malaysia's proactive participation in the local and the international arena has strengthened its position and credibility of as a leader in cyber security in the region. It is in line with our vision to be recognized a reference center and expert technical field of cyber security by 2020.
