Visit from Qatar University to CyberSecurity Malaysia

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia welcomed a visit from Dr. Khalifa N. Al-Khalifa, Dean of the College of Engineering, Qatar University on February 2, 2018.

The purpose of the visit was to acquire CyberSecurity Malaysia's expertise and skills based on experience in cyber security especially on capacity building as well as to learn the services offered by CyberSecurity Malaysia. In addition, it aimed to enhance cooperation in cyber security between Malaysia and Qatar.

During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to promote and foster cooperation in the area of cyber security between the two organizations.

The outcome of this visit has widened the reach of CyberSecurity Malaysia services to other countries. It also strengthened CyberSecurity Malaysia's position as an international cyber security expert agency.

Safer Internet Day (SID) 2018 – Malaysia Chapter, Kuala Lumpur

 

The National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) and CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with the National Council of Women's Organizations of Malaysia (NCWO) celebrated Safer Internet Day (SID) 2018 Malaysia Chapter on 6 February 2018.

SID is an initiative by InSAFE European Union (EU), a Belgium based organization which is celebrated globally in more than 100 countries in February every year to promote Internet security, foster and raise public awareness of the importance of Internet security to be more responsible when using Internet technologies and applications through digital gadgets.

Based on the global SID 2018 theme, "Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you", the theme “Cyber Parenting - Cyber Resilient Families Begin With You" was chosen as Malaysian theme to coincide with the efforts of various parties to empower Internet users, especially among parents, women and children.

In order to sustain the SID 2018 Malaysia edition, several programs and initiatives have been compiled, among others: -

      1. #DealWithIT Campaign: This campaign introduces Five (5) Cyber Parenting Plans for parents or guardians to pledge to express support and responsible attitude. The method of implementation of the pledge can be obtained through the website https://www.cybersafe.my/saferinternetday/
      2. Risk Assessment for Cyberphysical & Psychosocial Medical Threats. Among Teenagers: the study was conducted in collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Center (PPUKM) and also the Criminology Department from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to study the burden and impact of the Internet on the physical health of adolescents and children, children.
      3. Cyber Parenting Guidebook: This book is dedicated to inform parents about the procedure of being a parent or guardian who is wise in nurturing and educating children in cyberspace. This book was published in collaboration with DiGi Telecommunications.
      4. Seminar "Cyber Resilient Family Begins With You": This seminar is held on February 24, 2018 (Saturday) at Royale Chulan Hotel Kuala Lumpur. It was organized in collaboration with the National Council of Women's Organizations of Malaysia (NCWO). More than 700 participants attended this seminar and the "Safer Internet Day 2018" celebration was officiated by YABhg. Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of YAB Prime Minister cum Patron Program PERMATA.

SID 2018 The Malaysian Chapter received supports from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM), Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM), PERMATA Division , PUSPANITA, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Center (PPUKM), Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Cyber Intelligence Sdn Bhd, Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), IKIM FM and Alhijrah TV.

Law and ICT Digital Conference, Qatar

 

OCyberSecurity Malaysia was invited to attend the Law and ICT Digital Conference organized by the Qatar University in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport & Communications Qatar in Doha on 19 and 20 March 2018.

The invitation was the result of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by CyberSecurity Malaysia with the University of Qatar in an effort to strengthen cooperation in the area of cyber security. CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Mohd Shamir Hashim, Senior Vice President, International Relations and Government Division. He delivered a presentation titled "Cyber Security Capabilities - The Malaysian Perspective".

The conference was also attended by various institutions of higher learning including Qatar University, Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Northumbria University, The Australian National University (Australia) Police College, Qatar, Purdue University (USA), University of Yahia Fares Medea, École normale supérieure (France), Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi, University of New South Wales.

This conference has provided CyberSecurity Malaysia the opportunity to introduce cyber security services as well as to connect with various parties present.

Knowledge Sharing Session on SCADA Security Simulation Testbed for Electrical Power Grid and Technical Course on RTAP and SLOI, Cyberjaya

 

On February 21, 2018, a Knowledge Sharing session was held on the SCADA Security Simulation Testbed for Electrical Power Grid based on the National Electricity Transmission System. The program is aimed at providing information on the objectives and direction of the Tesbed Simulation project, exchanging information on cyber attacks on SCADA testbed simulations and the impact of the attack on electricity supply systems.

A total of 36 participants comprising National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), UNITEN and CyberSecurity Malaysia were present at this session.

Meanwhile, on February 22 and 23, 2018 a Technical Training Course for Real Time Application Platform (RTAP) and Station Level Operator Interface (SLOI) was held. The system was used in Simulation Testbed development. This course was held to enhance the skills and knowledge in the conduct of the SCADA testbed simulation based on the national electric power transmission system for testing and training purposes. In addition, it gave exposure to system users about the procedures of RTAP and SLOI systems. A total of 16 participants attended the three-day course.

Visit by MOSTI Secretary General to CyberSecurity Malaysia, Seri Kembangan

 

On February 20, 2018, Secretary General of Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) YBhg. Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar Haji Yahaya visited CyberSecurity Malaysia.

The visit was held to monitor the performance and progress of RMK-11 Projects by CyberSecurity Malaysia. During the visit, RMK-11 Projects related to national resiliency against cyber threats, cyber forensics capability, as well as advanced cyber security technology were presented.

The delegation was also briefed on financial performance, physical development and achievement for 2016 to 2017. At the end of the visit, the delegation visited the laboratories.

Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) Steering Committee Meeting, Internet Network Operators Summit on Operational Technologies (APRICOT) and Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams Technical Colloqium, Kathmandu, Nepal

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) Steering Committee Meeting and the Internet Network Operators Summit on Operational Technologies Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams Technical Colloqium in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The programs were held in collaboration with Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC). It was held in conjunction with the Internet Network Operators Summit on Operational Technologies (APRICOT) 2018 and the Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC).

CyberSecurity Malaysia participation in the Technical Colloqium was represented by Nurul Husna Mohd Nor Hazalin. She presented a paper entitled "Detection, Eradication & Forensic: Cyber Threats Intelligence for CNII Organizations". A total of 11 papers were presented by representatives from various countries such as Australia, USA, Bangladesh, Japan, Malaysia, China and Spain on a program attended by more than 50 participants.

The participation of CyberSecurity Malaysia in this program is to discharge the responsibility of APCERT Steering Committee and Deputy Chairman. It is also one of the initiatives in strengthening cooperation with APCERT member countries. The program also reinforces Malaysia's name as a contributor to the development of the global cyber security field, particularly in the Asia Pacific region and is recognition of Malaysia's expertise in cyber security.

Visit from Ministry of Interior, Bahrain to CyberSecurity Malaysia

 

On February 23, 2018, CyberSecurity Malaysia welcomed a visit from the Ministry of Interior, Bahrain.

The visit was held to learn CyberSecurity Malaysia's expertise and experience in the area of cyber security especially in terms of capacity building as well as the establishment of policies and cyber security management policies and frameworks. The delegation also learned about CyberSecurity Malaysia's experience in developing and implementing the National Cyber Security Policy (NCSP) and provided information on cyber security services.

During the visit, delegates visited lab facilities in CyberSecurity Malaysia. The visit has further strengthened CyberSecurity Malaysia's cooperation with the Ministry of Interior Bahrian in cyber security and bilateral relations.

Cyber Parenting Seminar “Cyber Resilient Family Begins With You” and Closing Ceremony of Safer Internet Day 2018 Malaysia Chapter, Kuala Lumpur

 

In conjunction with the Safer Internet Day (SID) 2018 Malaysia Chapter, National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) and CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with the National Council of Women's Organizations of Malaysia (NCWO) organized Cyber Parenting Seminar entitled Cyber Resilient Family Begins With You.

This seminar aims to empower parents or guardians about cyber security and provides exposure on cyber security issues that threaten family institutions such as cyber bullying, Internet addiction, cyber crime and social media threats. It also nurtures and inculcates the awareness of parents or guardians about the importance of using technology including digital and Internet gadgets positively and ethically.

A variety of interesting topics were presented at the first session of the forum entitled Cyber Exploitation: Cybervictimization: Prevention in Schools, including the Online Child Protection Landscape: Laws and Legislation in Malaysia, Cyber Security in Education: Building Digital Resilience For Internet Security and In-Phone Criminals.

While at the forum's second session entitled Cyber Parenting and Cyber Medical Threats, several studies conducted by experts from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Center (PPUKM) were tabled. Over 600 participants consisting of parents and guardians with pre-school children, children in primary and teenagers attended this seminar.

The event was officiated by the YABhg. Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, Wife of YAB Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Patron of the PERMATA Program.

YABhg. Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor also launched a book titled ‘Panduan Keibubapaan Siber’ in this ceremony. This book is dedicated to deliver messages and information on the methods of childcare and education in cyberspace. It contains information and infographics that parents and guardians can reference parents to regulate children's online activities by age group.

Exchange of Memorandum of Agreement Between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

 

On February 25, 2018, CyberSecurity Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) exchanged a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) at Sabah Media Night with YB Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The MoA realized the collaboration of the Cyber Security Clinic or MyCyberSecurity Clinic (MyCSC) in Sabah. With the establishment of this clinic, government agencies, private companies and the general public are able to utilize cyber security services such as data recovery, data sanitization and consultancy.

MyCyberSecurity Clinic is an initiative under the MyCyberSecurity Clinic (MyCSC) Entrepreneur Development program. It is MyCSC branch development program by CyberSecurity Malaysia to embed entrepreneurs specialized in cyber security across Malaysia.

Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Datuk Dr. D Kamarudin D Mudin and Chief Executive Officer Dato' Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab exchanged the MoA while the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau witnessed it.

Program Negaraku Berinovasi, Tuaran, Sabah

 

On 26 to 28 February 2018, CyberSecurity Malaysia participated in Negaraku Berinovasi Program organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) at Tuaran, Sabah.

The three-day program showcased various interactive activities by various departments and agencies under MOSTI to instill interest, foster understanding and spread public awareness on science, technology and innovation. In this program, the #DealwithIT Campaign was introduced to the Sabah community to announce the concept of cybercultures held in conjunction with the Internet Security Day or Safer Internet Day (SID) 2018 Malaysian Edition themed "Cyber Resilient Family Begins With You".

The opening ceremony was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. YBhg. Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar Haji Yahaya, Secretary General of the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MOSTI) also attended this ceremony.

CyberSecurity Malaysia's participation in this program enables it to promote the following services such as Cyber999, digital forensic, Malaysia Trustmark, MyCyberSecurity Clinic and CyberSAFE program.

Technical Training Program and Strategic Workshop between May Siber Teknoloji (MST) dan CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM), Ankara, Turkey

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia in collaboration with May Cyber Teknoloji (MST) organized a technical training program and cyber security strategic workshop in Ankara, Turkey.

The program was held in conjunction with the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed in 2017 to realize the transfer of technology aimed at enhancing CyberSecurity Malaysia's expertise and expertise in Network Access Control (NAC) technology at optimum levels. This skill is important because NAC technology is widely used in the operation of cyber security systems.

trategic workshops were held to formulate plans for research and development collaboration. In this case, the two organizations will work together to share their expertise, resources and experience in cyber security research projects. This program was led by Dr. Aswami Fadillah Mohd Ariffin, Senior Vice President, Cyber Security Response Service Division, CyberSecurity Malaysia.

Through this program, participated staff are able to enhance the skills and competence. In addition, it also strengthened strategic cooperation in cyber security and provides opportunities for international collaboration, particularly information sharing between CyberSecurity Malaysia and cyber security industry players in Turkey.

Transition to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Training, Cyberjaya

 

On February 28, 2018, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the Transition to ISO / IEC 17025: 2017 training in Cyberjaya. The training program organized by the Association of Malaysian Accredited Labs in collaboration with the Department of Standards Malaysia was held to provide exposure on changes in ISO / IEC 17025: 2017. This 1 day course was attended by various organizations with and without ISO / IEC 17025 Accreditation.

The involvement of CyberSecurity Malaysia in this course is significant as MySEF Department is directly involved in the transition process from ISO17025: 2005 to ISO17025: 2017. The information obtained from this course impacted laboratory management in MySEF Department.
