National ICT Security Discourse - CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy (NICTSeD) 2018 and National Cyber Security Challenge (CAKNA) 2018

 

In 2018, once again, CyberSecurity Malaysia hosts its annual event, the National ICT Security Discourse - CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy (NICTSeD) and this year, National Cyber Security Challenge (CAKNA) 2018 made its debut.

oth competitions are collaborative programs between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Education Technology Division (BTP), Ministry of Education Malaysia. This is the sixth edition of NICTSeD and first for CAKNA.

The aim of this competition is to foster and encourage the creative and critical thinking of secondary school students throughout Malaysia on current issues pertaining to Information and Communication Technology (ICT), cyber security as well as positive use of the Internet. In addition, it also inculcates students’ self-confidence through public speaking, interpersonal skills and high thinking skills (KBAT).

This year, Cybersecurity Malaysia was directly involved in the selection process held in several states throughout Malaysia. The selection took place as follow :

    a. Johor - 6 to 8 May 2018
    b. Terengganu - May 6 to May 2018
    c. Kedah - 13 to 15 May 2018
    d. Penang - 14 to 15 May 2018
    e. Kelantan - 12 to 14 May 2018


CyberSecurity Malaysia and BTP announced the results on CyberSAFE's Facebook page and BTP’s portal on May 25, 2018.

NICTSeD and CAKNA have eventually increased the level of cyber security awareness among schoolchildren and teachers as well as promoting CyberSecurity Malaysia and CyberSAFE Program to pupils and teachers throughout Malaysia.

Cloud Computing Forum 2018 Series 1: Setting the Public Sector Cloud Strategy in Today’s Digital Ecosystem, Putrajaya

 

On May 15, 2018, the Cloud Computing Forum 2018 First Series seminar entitled "Setting the Public Sector Cloud Strategy in Today's Digital Ecosystem" was held in Putrajaya.

The seminar jointly organized by the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDeC) and the Malaysian Administrative Modernization and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) is aimed at raising awareness of the public sector on the application of cloud computing technology and implementation with the use of ecosystems, operations and data management.

At the seminar, Haji Mohd Shahar Bin Haji Salim from the Public Sector Data Center, MAMPU presented on Cloud Computing with regard to the use, challenges and strategies for Public Sector Ecosystems to raise awareness of participants in the use of cloud computing in the public sector with the support given by the government.

Cyber and Digital Security Conference, Astana, Kazakhstan

 

On 23 to 26 May 2018, CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the Cyber and Digital Security Conference 2018 and conducted work visits to several organizations in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The participation of CyberSecurity Malaysia at the conference which was held in conjunction with the V International Exhibition of Arms and Military-Technical (KADEX 2018) was under the invitation of the Minister of Defense and Space of the Republic of Kazakhstan, HE B. Atamkulov.

Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, Dato' Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab presented a paper entitled "The Current Malaysia Cyber Security Landscape" at the conference and visited the KADEX 2018 exhibition site.

While in Kazakhtan, CyberSecurity Malaysia conducted a discussion with Deputy Minister of Defense and Space Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, East Shaymergenov; Kazakhstan Computer Emergency Response Team, En. Murat Aigozhiev; Center for Analysis and Investigation of Cyber-Attacks (CAICA), En. Arman Abdrasilov; and Director of Development and Research of Kazakhstan Engineering, Mrs. Gulzan Auexa.

This discussion aimed to strengthen cooperation in the development of cyber security in both countries so CyberSecurity Malaysia will be able to expand its services in Kazakhtan, exchange knowledge in cybersecurity, gain membership and enhance Kazakh involvement in the Computer Emergency Response Team - Islamic Organization Cooperation Organization (OIC-CERT) and enhance cyber security expertise as well as implementing international projects with the Kazakhs.

3rd International Conference on Information and Network Technologies (ICINT 2018) Osaka, Jepun

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended the 3rd International Conference on Information and Network Technology (ICINT 2018) organized by the Journal of Advances in Computer Networks (JACN) in Osaka, Japan.

This conference is a platform for academic scientists, researchers and research scholars to gather, exchange and share experiences and research findings in terms of network information. A total of 30 delegates from Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Netherlands, Malaysia and India attended this conference.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was represented by Farhan Arif Bin Mohamad and Khairul Azri Bin Zainal Abidin from the MyVAC Department. CyberSecurity Malaysia presented a research paper titled "Measuring Sensor to Cloud Energy Consumption".

CyberSecurity Malaysia was given an opportunity to establish a network with research communities from various industries and governments through state representatives here. The research papers presented will be published in the special publication of Journal of Advances in Computer Networks (JACN).

The Asian Banker - Future of Finance Summit 2018, Beijing, China

 

The Asian Banker - Future of Finance Summit 2018 was held in Beijing, China on May 24, 2018. It was the largest gathering of organizations leaders in the financial industry in China and Asia.

The aim of the summit was to inform participants about the financial industry in China and other Asian countries that impact on development, security, innovation and technology as well as to catalyze China's economic growth through the use of digital platforms and securities.

Over 300 participants from various banking institutions, financial agencies, financial industry support organizations, IT experts and human resources attended the summit. There are three main focus discussions, namely Leadership In Digital Economy, Global Transactions Re-Invented and Cybersecurity In The Digital Age.

CyberSecurity Malaysia, represented by Wan Zul Hamli Wan Abdul Rahman, Head of Strategic and Advisory Research Department was a panel for Cybersecurity In The Digital Age track. He shared information and exhanged ideas on cyber security issues.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was given an opportunity to build credibility internationally, especially in China, which is an influential country in the world in economics and technology.

2018 International Conference On Information Management (ICIM 2018) Oxford, United Kingdom

 

CyberSecurity Malaysia attended an international information management conference, 2018 International Conference On Information Management (ICIM 2018) at Oxford, United Kingdom.

The annual seminars organized by Oxford University and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) are held to provide delegates the platform to discuss advanced scientific findings covering areas such as Big Data, Smart City and Internet Internet of Things (IoT).

At this conference, CyberSecurity Malaysia representative Abdul Fuad Abdul Rahman from the MyVAC Department presented a paper entitled "Denial of Service: Impact on Sensors".

CyberSecurity Malaysia is the only Malaysian-listed organization as a speaker at this conference. Meanwhile, the study on Internet Security of Things (IoT) implemented by CyberSecurity Malaysia was recognized and published on the IEEE Xplore website and listed in the SCOPUS index.
