Code Red Worm alert
30th July 2001 (Utusan Malaysia)

KUALA LUMPUR July 30 - Organisations have been advised to take security measures to ensure all vulnerable computer systems are patched and secured in anticipation of the second wave of the Code Red Worm attack to start at about 8am on Wednesday.

The vulnerable systems are Windows NT or Windows 2000 running IIS version 4.0 and 5.0, Cisco Callmanager, Unity Server, uOne, ICS7750, Building Broadband Service Manager and un-patched Cisco 600 series DSL routers.

"The worm propagates very quickly and it is likely that nearly all vulnerable systems will be compromised by Aug 2," according to a joint statemnt from the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) and the National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre (NISER).

The recursive nature of the worm is also capable in creating a Distributed Denial of Service Attack.

The statement said that as of last Wednesday, more than 500 computers had been compromised by Code Red Worm.
