Moggie: Govt To Keep An Open Mind On Reviewing Existing Laws
17th April 2001 (Bernama)

PETALING JAYA, April 17 (Bernama) -- The government will keep an open mind on the need to review certain legislations rendered irrelevant due to changes brought about by the cyberworld and new technology issues.

Energy, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Amar Leo Moggie said if there was a need to amend or change existing laws, the government would be open about it, knowing that there are cases where existing legal provisions might not be adequate.

"The government's position is that all legislations need to be examined, not just one particular legislation because a number of existing laws that have been drafted are without the background of cyberworld and technology issues," he told reporters at the launch of the Malaysia Corporate Information Technology Conference and Exhibition 2001 (CITEX 2001) here Tuesday. -- BERNAMA
