Personal Data Protection Act In Drafting Stage

KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- The Personal Data Protection Act, a law to safeguard personal privacy in the cyberspace, is in the drafting stage, said National Information Technology Council (NITC) Secretary Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen on Tuesday.

He said the Act would regulate the collection, holding, processing and use of personal data by any person to provide protection to an individual's personal data as well as to safeguard personal privacy.

Speaking to reporters after the launching of the National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre (NISER), he said the Attorney-General's ffice was currently drafting the penalties for the Act.
