SYMANTEC, one of the world's largest Internet security software companies, plans to tackle the local banking and government sectors more aggressively after having achieved 300% growth in revenue last year.

Its vice-president for Asia-Pacific Garry Sexton said this was because there was a great worldwide demand for security software, including Malaysia.

Sexton said losses resulting from computer hacking this year would reach US$1.6 trillion, causing great concern among big business corporations worldwide.

Losses to business corporations last year due to hacking was US$176bil, causing big companies and governments to rely more on Internet security softwares.

In Symantec, a lightning fast deployment of anti-virus systems could be installed and viruses could be combatted by its engineers within a few hours.
