Cybersecurity Malaysia Urges Dissemination Of Info On Cybersecurity

All concerned should make an effort to disseminate information on cybersecurity, particularly among the younger generation, says CyberSecurity Malaysia.

Its chief executive officer Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab said the initiative was needed following an increase in the number of Internet users, which had exposed the Malaysian digital community to various forms of cyber threats.

"Immoral activities as well as other wrongdoings on the part of Internet users in cyberspace is a cause for worry with many groups, including the government," he told a media luncheon here today.

CyberSecurity Malaysia is the national cyber security specialist centre under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation(MOSTI).

According to Amirudin, CyberSecurity Malaysia is aware of the younger generation's (below the age of 25) attraction to the social media, and had undertaken initiatives through it to draw closer to them.

"CyberSecurity Malaysia has made available various services and implanted different programmes, among them being the achievement programme or outreach, more popularly known as CyberSAFE," he said.

He explained that CyberSAFE or short for Cyber Security Awareness For Everyone, is a programme, tailored to create public awareness, particularly within the Malaysian digital community on the importance of cyber safety and the protocols for positive Internet and computer use.

Through the CyberSAFE programme, various initiatives had been implemented, with one of them being the involvement of CyberSecurity Malaysia in the Safer Internet Day or SID, held in February every year.
